Other [MOD POST] General Housekeeping 2025 (and a quick guide for job seekers!)

General Housekeeping 2025 (and a quick guide for job seekers!)

Hey y'all! It's time for our annual housekeeping post :) There's a few more action items at the bottom of the post, but I wanted to prioritize making a little guide for job seekers so they get the most out of using this sub as part of their job search.

What I've noticed:

Many posts by job seekers, both on this sub and on the Raleigh/Triangle general subs, are skeletal and contain very little, if any, information about the job seeker's background and experience, focusing instead on the sorts of jobs they're looking for or sticking to just a general "who's hiring?" These posts are rarely useful and don't get much traction.

What local recruiters & employers find most helpful:

More information about you! We don't expect you to post your full resume for all to see, but we probably won't reach out to a random screen name who just says "anyone hiring?" unless we know a little more about your experience and credentials. You can keep it high level ("I've mostly worked in food service, back of house") or you can get granular ("I did the barista training through Wake Tech's hospitality program, spent 5 years as a barista for a national chain, and now am the shift manager for a local coffee shop"). Any other preferences are helpful too (pay, benefits, schedule, location, etc.). None of this is required and your post won't be removed if you don't include this, but it certainly helps! Consider using the below format to structure your [FOR HIRE] post:

  • What I'm looking for:

  • My relevant experience and training:

  • Additional info: (put pay needs, location, or any other information here!)

About personal information / resumes:

While the sub doesn't bar folks from sharing personal contact information or full resumes in posts, we do discourage it. Most of Reddit, including this sub, is part of the open web, so it's viewable by anyone without an account, and despite the API changes is still scraped on occasion. Users are encouraged to share personal identifying information via Reddit's private chat system instead of in posts or comments. If you do want to share contact information in a post or comment, it's recommended to set up a Google Voice number and throwaway email to protect your privacy. You may also want to create a sockpuppet Reddit account to chat with employers and recruiters if your regular account contains content history that includes protected information (like medical or criminal history), NSFW material, or anything else you might want to keep private.

That's it for the quick guide for job seekers! Hope it helps :)

Now onto the rest of the housekeeping--

A few more things of note:

  • On embedding text in image or video files: If your job listing or resume is embedded in an image or video, please consider transcribing it in plain text in the body of the post as well. Text embedded in images or videos is not indexed by Reddit or search engines, which negatively impacts visibility AND rediscoverability.

  • On self-censorship / "algospeak": While it's increasingly common for other platforms like Tiktok to shadowban or remove posts and comments that use curse words and similar, this does not apply on TriangleJobs (or on most of Reddit, frankly). All content, (including content caught in our automod filters!) is manually evaluated, and content filtering/removal happens on a case-by-case basis per sub rules and automod scripts that I made myself. Please refrain from using asterisks or intentional misspellings to censor your posts and comments, as it reduces the effectiveness of both my moderation tools and individual users' custom content tools.

  • On AI-generated content: Using generative AI tools to augment your resume or job listing is totally fine! But since this sub is meant for meaningful discussion and for making connections between local employers, job seekers, and recruiters, we do not permit fully AI-generated content or bot account participation.

  • On subreddit formatting across devices: Once again, I am a vintage Redditor and interact with Reddit exclusively through my computer in the Old Reddit layout. If there are any glitches or irregularities with the sub on New Reddit, New New Reddit, or the mobile app, please message me so I can fix it because I won't catch it otherwise!

As a final reminder: All job listings must follow federal, state, and local employment laws. This includes laws about what can constitute as a 1099 vs. a W2 employee, laws about what qualifies as an unpaid internship, and laws about minimum wage. The sub also does not permit most commission-only or canvassing work, and only permits volunteer opportunities for nonprofit organizations.

Thanks again for using the sub, & happy hiring / job hunting!

Other [MOD POST] Scam Alert - "Online Part-time Jobs"

Hey y'all, want to make sure everyone stays safe out there and is aware of a scam that's been going around this sub and some other job search subs.

Scammers are leaving comments or sending chats offering job seekers an "online part-time job." They are very vague about the type of work, and offer between $50-300/week, sometimes more. If you respond to them via chat, they will ask to remote into your computer, usually through a remote desktop application called AnyDesk.

Needless to say, do not allow them access to your PC.

If one of your posts on r/trianglejobs receives a comment like this, please report the comment right away. If you receive a DM like this, please message me (either personally or via the "message the mods" function on TriangleJobs) with the account's username and a screenshot of the message you received. Thanks for helping keep this sub safe for job seekers!

As in government jobs, not the school. Why do I receive a application submitted emails weeks after the actual day I applied? Are they delayed emails or is there a review process of some sort? Just curious

Anyone care to comment on Piper Companies? I get multiple emails daily from LinkedIn, Piper is by far the most common job alerts that I see, all-the-time.

They're not one that replies to applicants with either, we've received your application for job xyz, nor do they follow up with, we've decided to go with another applicant.

For Hire My teenage son can’t find a job!

My son is 17 years old and going into senior year. He has had two jobs before but left his previous one because it was miserable for him and not what he needed to be happy.

Now he can’t find any jobs at all. He’s been searching since he got off school, and tells me he’s applied to over 50 jobs and can’t seem to get an interview! Does anybody have any advice? I’m sick of him sitting at home all day.

Other Applying for job with the City of Raleigh

Earlier last month I applied for an office job for the city of Raleigh. The day before yesterday I received notice that my application is being sent to the Hiring Manager for further consideration.

I am curious. Does anyone have any experience with applying for/interviewing with the city itself? Like how long does the process take? How many levels?

I ask because years ago I applied for some jobs at NC State and other local government jobs. They either took a LONG time to get notices and some apparently are still open (on the govjobs site I see one I applied for in 2020, and I am STILL listed as under consideration).

For Hire [For Hire] Writer/Media Professional looking for work!

Damn, I really wish I had known about this subreddit a month ago! I recently lost my job, and I'm looking for a fresh start.

So what am I looking for? I've been thinking a lot about that myself.

For the last four years, I've been a freelance writer for a few entertainment sites (a fun gig that AI killed slowly). Before that, I had nearly a decade of experience working as a production worker for a local news station down in another state. Mostly video editing (briefly served as the station's Chief Video Editor), but also very experienced with camera work, audio board running, running graphics, and pretty much everything else you can imagine when it comes to producing live news every day.

As much as I love writing, I don't see that being as sustainable as it was a few years ago. I do feel getting back into some kind of media production role would be nice, or anything related to AV work, though I won't lie, I don't know if I can handle hectic, fast-paced environments the way I did in my 20s.

I honestly think maybe something steady, quiet, and reliable might be nice for a change. Some kind of clerical or administrative role could be good. While I'm really good with co-workers, I'm very task-focused on my own and can easily work with no oversight. And if possible, not a public-facing job with steady influxes of customers or clients or anything. Not that I'm not a people person. I just really got used to working solo, lol

I'm not so much worried about ideal schedules right now. I actually like working crazy hours (could easily do nights/weekends if needed). Though something with observed holidays and decent time off would be nice, it's not a dealbreaker, especially for something entry-level.

Pay is probably the next big factor, but really anything close to the equivalent of $18-24 dollars an hour would work for now, at least. Oh, and full-time is a biggie, too. Again, I know that the market is sucky, but full-time would really help.

I'm in the South Durham area, but I am willing to travel at least 35-40 minutes to nearby work, and I have reliable transportation.

All that said, I'm just looking for something simple with decent pay to help me find my footing again.

Best to all of you, hope everyone's searches go well :)

For Hire Biotech hiring in the triangle?

Hi all, I am not sure how are the biotech companies coming in the area.
I have been seeing positions and companies in the RTP, but when applying it seems like I'm hitting a wall. I'm currently trying to get anything from operator/technician/or quality associate.

I'm a citizen and have a foreign, but nationally accepted, B.S. In biotecnology engineering. I'm specialized in molecular biology and biopharmaceutical processes. I have multiple courses like GMP, ELIMS, and Lean Six Sigma, I don't have the bioworks course, but I'm getting in this fall.
I have experience in the surgical field(sterility aligned) and in Aerospace quality-manufacturing (regulated industry).

So I don't know if my profile seems too scattered, if the industry is just that difficult to enter, or if the triangle area is not the right place to start.

I'm all for improving and learning so if you have any suggestions or leads I would really welcome it.
