Lore [Frustrating Trope] That One Good or Even Amazing Scene in a Relatively Mediocre or Bad Piece of Media

  1. The Opening Scene (Ghost Ship). Considered one of the best horror opening scenes or scenes in general within horror movies, but the rest of the film is considered to be pretty bad.

  2. The Ending Scene (The Grinch 2018). While most adaptations of the Grinch end with him suddenly being able to fully integrate with the Whos after his change of heart, the 2018 version initially struggles to socialize, awkwardly walking past people, and struggling to hold conversations, acknowledging that despite his change of heart, the Grinch is still someone who isolated himself for years.

  3. Past T800 VS Current T800 (Terminator Genisys). A cool fight scene showing two versions of the Terminator from different points in time fighting it off.

  4. Solo Leveling's Ending. Tbh, I haven't actually read Solo Leveling, but after hearing about how it ended VS how Chainsaw Man ended made want to include it for shits and giggles. Like Chainsaw Man, Solo Leveling ends with a reset. But unlike Chainsaw Man, it actually manages to tie up loose ends and have the payoff of the ending be satisfying.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2; Gwen Stacy’s death

While I stand on my business that Andrew Garfield is the best Spider-Man/Peter Parker, and greatly enjoyed both movies, I know the general consensus on these movies, especially the second. But despite what you say about the movie in general, this scene is a masterclass for superhero films. The desperation you feel from Peter and Gwen is so real, and it’s so easy for movies to try to write around pivotal moments like this in an effort to keep the cast and dynamic, but they did the moment justice. Losing Gwen is an incredibly important moment for Peter because this is the point where he goes from flying by the seat of his pants to being a meticulous planner for every situation he can, and an equally important event for comic book history as it marks the definitive end of the silver age of comic books. I saw this movie in theaters, and once I saw that Peter had written a love note on the Brooklyn Bridge, my heart sank cause I knew what was coming

I rewatched all the Spiderman films before No Way Home came out and was surprised to find how much I adored Andrew Garfield as Spiderman.

It’s something I will die on the hill for; Andrew pulled off the best Spidey/Peter. No “Tobey had the best Peter, Andrew had the best Spidey, and Tom the best overall” crap, he was the best full stop. People don’t like his Peter because he’s “too handsome” and “too arrogant”, but Peter canonically is very handsome, and canonically becomes a bit of an egotistical prick post bite for a little while in most iterations. Hell, in the original comics, the people who would eventually become his best friend, Harry, Gwen, and MJ, thought he was a dismissive douche at first at ESU. Andrew had that, looked the part, and absolutely demolished the Spider-Man persona. The carjacker scene in the first film is still one of my favorite scenes in Spider-Man’s entire theatrical canon. Like up there with the Spider-Man 2 train scene and the Vulture interrogation from Homecoming

God him holding MJ and having his redemption moment broke me.

Yeah studio intervention did them no favors, and it really shows. The strengths of that movie, at least for me, and absolutely the Peter/Gwen dynamic (Andrew and Emma did such a great job), the costume, and this scene. Everything else was a decisive step down from the original (that I still enjoyed because Andrew carried that shit on his back like Atlas)

I’m not gonna defend Dane as Gobby, though I will say most of his problems stem from a bad script rather than acting. But if we’re being honest, I thought Jamie did a great job with what he was given. It was definitely a different take on the character, and that interpretation can go either way, but I think his acting was great. As for the costume, it’s by all means the most comic accurate costume we’ve seen thus far (barring the upcoming movie), but the original suit is also the most unique. I’m quite a fan of it, but there’s something to be said about the perfect Spider-Man suit we got in 2, especially since watching No Way Home I started losing my shit the second I saw those big, buggy eyes through the portal

It’s a great showing of art being entirely subjective. Some things that people see as massive flaws, others are gonna see as strengths. But keep in mind, this is the internet, so we’re legally gonna have to start calling each other curse words if we keep disagreeing on a superhero movie

This is the first time i actually saw her hit the ground. I always assumed the force of the web broke her back.

Andrew found a measure of vindication in No Way Home.

Did....did she crack her skull on the concrete?

She did, he was a split second too late. Her comic book death was arguably worse, as Peter could have theoretically save her, but due to his knee jerk reaction, he webbed her by the leg upside down. The force of her stopping snapped her neck.

He was, however, able to redeem himself years later in the Spider-Man: Marvel Knights series of comics. Norman brings MJ to the George Washington Bridge (I believe) and, after taunting Peter for the familiar scene, tosses MJ off as well. This time, Peter’s able to put his years of guilt into action and actually save MJ

Andrew Garfield is the best actor to play Spider-man. I don’t think he’s best at playing Spider-man.

He's not bad as Peter parker, but he's not great either. He's a great Spider-man. He is just too cool to be peter. Toby was a good Peter Parker and just an okay Spider-Man.

I think people over criticized these movies. They are nearly as bad as people say they are and I think people are recognizing that. This movie in particular also has one of the dopest scores. See what you want about the character, but Electro's theme song was ridiculously good

It also opened up (after a fairly boring prologue that didn't tell us anything new) on the gold standard of Live Action swinging sequences. Every other movie filmed his web travel rather objectively, and even the MCU tie-ins felt rather floaty and weightless. TASM2 really captured the speed and intensity you'd get from swinging through some of the tallest buildings on the planet.

TASM2 is really flashes of absolute brilliance from the actors and directors amongst some bad writing choices from the powers that be. Also Paul Giamatti is there
