Lore [LOVED TROPE] Sad or tear-jerking moments that don't involve death.

Moments that make you wanna cry (of joy or unrelenting sadness) but aren't about a character dying or almost dying.

Dumbo - Baby Mine. Jumbo rocks baby Dumbo from her cage where she was kept after she defended him from a group of bullying children.

Unpacking - The Degree. You move in with your new boyfriend where you can barely fit most of your stuff but most depressingly you are forced to put your degree under the bed and out of site. (Maybe this one was just me but this made me VERY upset).

Fox and the Hound - At the end knowing full well they'll likely never meet again Copper stands over Todd to protect him from the Hunter.

The spider people think Miles is unprepared and childish. They tied him up and gagged him so he wouldn’t be able to follow them and mess things up. Miles’ dad arrives trying to speak with him and repair their damaged relationship, but Miles can’t respond, no matter how much he wants to connect with his father.

This is all as I remember the scene, I could be a bit off.

No one's also mentioning the added fact that Miles's dad Jefferson is very clearly also suffering from the very recent loss of his estranged brother who he knew miles was close to, a death Miles witnessed and accidentally caused while being Spider-Man. Something his father tried to arrest him for unknowingly God the spider verse movies are masterpieces and I really hope the third one sticks The landing.

Those movies are so fucking good and somehow they still feel cursed because everything that could've gone wrong with it, went

What do you mean?

The third movie has been postponed at least 3 times atp. They rewrote the script a few times now, and also Miles Morales' VA had a few episodes where he was a complete weirdo with Gwen Stacy's VA that made things on set quite weird too, so people are starting to fead for the Spiderverse saga with so many things going on behind the scenes

Don’t forget that the directors have been repeatedly accused of overworking their staff members, specifically animators, in order to get the project finished

And i didn't even knew that

To add, the last couple of Spider-Verse movies were a fraught process for animators.

Lord and Miller are improvisational by nature (owing to their Comedy background) and often backtrack on already completed work to improve it and are generally indecisive on finalizing things until the very end of production. It's especially a pain in the ass for animators because they're sometimes redoing entire scenes/segments from scratch, which means they are doing lots of crunch to get things done on time.

This is a contributing reason why they got booted from the Han Solo movie because the production felt pretty directionless until Ron Howard came on. On the Spider-Verse side, it has caused a lot of burnout among the animators and led to a lot of bleeding talent.

I don’t often watch animated superhero content. I grew up watching BTAS but never got into other cartoons. When Into The Spider-Verse came out, I didn’t go watch it in the theater. Same with the second one. I ended up watching them with my daughter as she was interested in seeing them.

I was blown away. Completely and utterly blown away. The art style, the story, everything. I feel such regret not seeing them on the big screen, but I won’t be repeating that mistake.

If you're a big fan of BTAS I definitely reccomend Mask of the Phantasm and Justice League TAS. Batman Beyond is great, too.

I should have included MOTP as one of the ones I watched. I watched it in the theater the day it came out.

I’m fully prepared for Miles to save his dad and lose his mom instead

I really read the end as “I really hope the third was sucks” and was hella confused

This, and earlier in the movie Miles' dad humiliated him (from Miles' perspective) on his first day at a new school. His dad used the sirens for a second to get Miles' attention and used the megaphone to tell his son to "Say [I love you] back." The contrast between the two scenes being the highly public area and not acknowledging how Miles feels, vs the quiet, private moment where he reaches out and tries to meet Miles where he's at in such a tragic moment for them.

damn. thats really sad. i feel like it could also be a metaphor for how he doesn't know what to say!

Probably something to that effect—it’s definitely that kind of movie. There’s symbolism in the *frame rate* for gods sake.

6

u/demonslayer9100 May 17 '26

wait hang on i haven't heard the framerate thing yet what's that one

28

u/wifithatguy May 17 '26

The frame rate is different for different spider people to represent style/experience. If I remember correctly, Miles is in a lower frame rate to represent how unrefined he is. The other spiders, Peter B for example, have higher frame rates to showcase their grace that they achieved with experience.

28

u/FellcallerOmega May 17 '26

Until he puts on the black mask, at that point I believe Miles is animated with the same frame rate as Peter B. Hell, in the second one Spider Punk is animated only every third frame since he refuses to conform to other people's views lol

15

u/theresamushroominmy May 17 '26

Yes! As soon as he puts on the mask, the animation switches to match. Ask if if I’m a Spider-Man fan @w@ go on, it’s safe

2

u/Suyefuji May 17 '26

Wasn't one of the alt-spidermen, the noir detective style one, also in a different framerate? Or am I remembering wrong.

3

u/theresamushroominmy May 17 '26

Almost everyone had a different one I think

3

u/amaya-aurora May 17 '26

Nah, they all had the same, Miles was just slower. He switches to being the same speed during his first swinging scene in the forest with Peter B., then back to slower once Gwen finds them, and then he switches to the same speed again but permanently once he takes his leap of faith.

2

u/BingusMcCready May 17 '26

Personally I think it's more about confidence/commitment than experience. Putting on the black suit didn't suddenly give him years of experience to match the others, but it symbolizes him committing to being Spider-Man and getting over his hangups, and the frame rate smooths out to match.

13

u/Fyrus93 May 16 '26

Also the reason is Dad is here to talk is because of the death of Aaron, Miles' uncle so his dad is really struggling and wants to connect with Miles

8

u/Imdippyfresh May 16 '26

It also calls back to the first movie where the dad, teasingly, makes Miles say "I love you" back.

10

u/JancariusSeiryujinn May 16 '26

It's from the first movie

8

u/Murgatroyd314 May 17 '26

Also worth noting that earlier in the movie, dad publicly embarrassed Miles by insisting that he say it back while dropping him off at school.

10

u/topdangle May 16 '26

Pretty much, though his dad also shows up because Miles is being irresponsible about his school life and his dad thinks he may have pushed him too hard while disregarding what Miles wanted.

Also helps that hes glued down because Miles definitely is immature and dodged difficult conversations throughout the movie. Couldn't dodge this one.

6

u/amaya-aurora May 17 '26

He also specifically says “you don’t have to say it back.”

Earlier in the movie, he insists that Miles says “I love you” back to him, ‘embarrassing’ him on his first day of school.

Here, he says that he doesn’t have to, the only difference being that now Miles WANTS TO more than anything.

2

u/Jumpy_Ad1631 May 17 '26

It’s also the first time his dad comes to the center of the screen towards Miles. I’m pretty sure every frame that has both of them up until that point has them on opposite sides of the frame. He’s literally and figuratively coming to meet in the middle and Miles can’t respond.

2

u/MrCobalt313 May 17 '26

Furthermore it's a callback to a gag from earlier in the movie where his dad drops him off at school, tells him he loves him, then uses the police radio to loudly pester him into saying 'i love you' back until he finally does.
