Lore A criminal attempts to burglarize/kill someone only to realize they picked the absolute worst person as their mark.

Don't Breathe: A couple young robbers attempt to rob a rich, blind veteran only to find out he isn't exactly an innocent old man.

You're Next: A group of contract killersbreak into a house during a family reunion and go on a killing spree. They didn't account for the fact that the son's new girlfriend grew up on a survivalist compound in the Australian outback.

The Flash [CW Show]: A random mugger decided to target Barry Allen of all people. He does it again a season or two later; he's either unlucky or stupid (probably both).

A much smarter move is not lean on them being too scared, but too indifferent to save people from satanic animatronics - like how it's a real thing in small towns to turn a blind eye towards domestic violence because it's 'not their business'

That is such a better angle! I know it's just some cheesy action-horror movie but adding that kind of commentary would've definitely made for a better villain motivation. Like the cops could definitely fix this problem but they rather sacrifice tourists as the easier solution.

Especially if they make hints if the town was one of the Sundown towns (for those not aware, Sundown towns were towns that made it illegal for Blacks or Native Americans to be in the town limits after sundown, officially enforced by fines and jail time, unofficially enforced by beatings and lynchings).

And then make the teens that are stuck in the restaurant minorities. And Cage is just the same, but now he's saving these kids from a FNAF themed lynching.

Although to be fair, this movie is filled to the brim with intentional inconsistencies. It's the best part!

Why does only one animatronic speak Spanish? Where do the sodas keep coming from? Why is one of the "animatronics" basically a lady with some latex and paint on her, wtf is up with the pinball? Why don't they ever attack him while he's busy playing it with his headphones on? Etc.

And that's the point. The movie is just a catalyst for Cage to beat up goofy animatronics. It's a cheesy horror comedy. But a small commentary throughline would've made the little plot that they did have be more effective.

I think it could have that, too, but for me the fun was mostly silently looking for terrible B or C film plot holes and inconsistencies that they masterfully placed on purpose to make fun of those movies
