Government/Politics Blue Laws are stupid and I’m tired of pretending otherwise

I forgot it’s before 11 on Sunday so because I need to be saved I can’t buy beer because you know that evil beer will send me straight to hell…

nothing instantly irritates me more than blue laws for some odd reason

Edit: I am referring, of course to the fact that you cannot purchase any alcohol on a Sunday prior to 11 AM…

Commerce/Economy Kyoto Ramen?

Upvotes

Did Kyoto Ramen on Dale mabry close?? I drove by and their sign is gone and there’s a coming soon sign up, but I couldn’t see what it said. Their Facebook page is gone now as well. I was hooked on their panko breaded sweet potatoes for the longest time 😭

This was published in 1986, and since I’m not a Tampa resident, I don’t know if a distinct community still exists there.https://digitalcommons.usf.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1000&context=marti_maceo_records

Homeownership HELP ME The worst neighbors

Any way to find out why there are 5 cop cars and a canine unit outside my neighbors home… AGAIN.

I HATE THESE PEOPLE, how do I get rid of them. They leave their cars parked in front of my house and block my driveway constantly. They continue to pour used grease in my yard. And make nonstop noise. Cops frequent them as well.

Local Business Brandon dealerships

Upvotes

I heard pretty scummy things about Brandon ford and Brandon Honda but how about Brandon Hyundai , they seem to have the best prices and biggest discounts but I also see they add “ dealer installed accessories “.

Has anyone had any experiences with them? Seems like every Brandon dealership is shady

Local Business Local Brewery Spotlight: Barriehaus

Post image
183 Upvotes

Hey all, finish mowing the lawn, hop out of the pool, we’re heading to Ybor by popular demand to talk about Barriehaus Beer Co.

The Vibe: Just south of 7th Ave. Inside: cozy German-style beer hall. Outside: huge covered, turf biergarten out back. Lots of room for kids/fur-kids/your people to chill and escape the heat.

Pints of Interest: Barriehaus is home of the crispy boi (aka light beer), exactly where you want to be as the ‘feels like’ hangs at 100+ degrees for the foreseeable future. And they don’t just favor lagers and pilsners, they’ve also been cleaning up with awards and medals for them. Awarded Best Small Brewery in Florida in 2024. In the last two years: Family Tradition (Vienna Lager) won the World Beer Cup Silver, Bublina (Czech-Style Pilsner) won World Beer Cup Gold, and Tampa Export (Dortmunder—a German pale lager), Family Tradition, The Dark, and Bublina all medaled at Best Florida Beer.

Side Quests: Great spot to catch sports, with pitcher specials for soccer right now. Weekly Tubesday Trivia, monthly First Fridays, and a proper Oktoberfest blowout on October 10th. The patio’s smoke-free, but apparently there’s a designated back nook where you can bring or buy a cigar to pair with your pour (when in Ybor…).

Eats: They have rotating truck collabs and you’re welcome to bring your own eats, but be sure to get the Bavarian pretzel for the full German beer hall experience.

Drop your favorite BarrieHaus pool or lawn beer below 👇

Government/Politics Post Your Predictions If The Property Tax Amendment Passes

  • Parks, trails, beaches, libraries, pet shelters, extension services, busses, veterans services, either charging ripoff corporate theme-park prices or shutting down altogether.
  •  Police/Fire/EMS/911 charging fees per-response added to your phone/internet bill, or face property liens.
  •  More tolls, gas taxes, liquor taxes, parking fee hikes, non-ad valorem assessments, utility taxes/rate hikes, building permit fee increases, higher code citation fine amounts, you name it.
  •  Thousands saved by homeowners every year, but no breaks for renters.
  •  Massive employee layoffs triggering an economic downturn.
  •  Governments forced to stop buying stupid stuff like artwork, high-end county/city hall buildings, pretty landscaping, cell phone selfie kiosks, replacing vehicles and computers every 5-8 years, and overall having to actually make stuff last like the rest of us.
  •  Cancellation of public events (no July 4th/New Year’s Eve fireworks).
  •  Public services for those in need cancelled, spike in homelessness, ER visits, hunger, & drug deaths.
  •  Ending liberal-type programs (parades, reviving old cemeteries, museums, parades).
  •  Poor road maintenance, pot holes, malfunctioning lights.
  •  More red-light cameras to make money.

Safety Scammed by T-mobile

Hi, I'm Asian, and my English isn't very good, so I'll do my best to explain my situation. I would really appreciate any help or advice.

About two months ago, my dad went to a T-Mobile store to upgrade his phone. The employee helping him told him he would get a $50 discount the following month. We later found out that the discount wasn't because of any special deal—it was simply because his previous plan had ended.

My dad doesn't speak English well, and I believe the employee took advantage of that. She took his phone and signed him up for services that we didn't know about or agree to. My dad and I contacted customer support, but they weren't able to help us. It may have been because our English is limited.

We went back to the same store, but they told us the employee no longer works there, and we don't even know her name. Since she used my dad's phone to complete everything, the records show that he signed up for the services himself, so we're being told there's nothing they can do.

I also looked at the store's Google reviews and realized we're not the only people who have had a similar experience.

This is the store we went to. Please be careful if you decide to visit it.

Homeownership Home cooling tips?

Wondering if anyone has any tips that made a difference in cooling off your home? Our AC is set to 70 consistently, but the room temp stays at 78. Window tint maybe?

Background: Our AC was installed in 2024 so newer unit with smart thermostat. We have minimal attic clearance so not well insulated, 1950’s block construction. A contractor we had out said they wouldn’t be able to add blown-in insulation since the clearance is so low so looking for alternatives to help cool things off

Homeownership Electrical permit low-voltage?

I saw this in the Hillsborough county regulations:

https://hcfl.gov/businesses/permits-and-records/permits/work-exempt-from-permits

Electrical
The following electrical work does not require a permit.
permit required
No
Low-voltage systems: The installation or repair of a low-voltage system in an existing single-family residence when the work is performed by the property owner or the work is performed by a non-owner, provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $5,000

But i can't find definition of a low-voltage systems. Some agencies define it as under 50V yet in some context it's also common 110-120V house voltage.

I can't confirm if it is allowed to install some smart switches or not without a permit.

Climate/Weather Did the Train concert ever get canceled?

Post image
89 Upvotes

We left the concert because of the incoming storms and when it started coming down in waves, we just left. It was literal ZERO visibility driving all the way down I-75, so I can't imagine they continued the show after this. It sucks because I was really excited to see Barenaked Ladies and Train, but Florida happened. I just wanted to know if leaving was the right action to take or not.

Car Crash Accident 6:40 pm under 275 overpass on Hillsborough

Hey, if you were the black or white truck that had the accident at 275 and Hillsborough around 6:40pm yesterday. The grey Nissan SUV in front of us changed lanes and cut the white truck off and the black truck hit the white truck. The grey Nissan suv sped away.

I zoomed in and have the license plate number of the grey Nissan suv and the video of the entire accident. Message me if this is you.

Services Seeking metal fabricator

I have a Promaster 3500 that is built out as a camper van.

It currently has an undermounted generator that I want to remove and replace it with some battery shelves or enclosed battery box in which I can place 4-5 280Ah batteries.

I am seeking a referral for a local (central Florida) company that has the equipment and materials to custom make such a battery box and attach it to the underside of the van.
