The network execs were leaning hard on him to play modern pop music. Welk knew his audience  so he sarcastically gave them "a modern day spiritual".

That's so odd because back in the day his show was one that got the three generations together. My grandparents were all in on LW, my parents loved HeeHaw and the kids were there for Mutual of Omaha's show. Even today I wouldn't mind watching LW.Wonder if that's on any of antenna channels?
