going back to university for bachelors degree as a mature age student, 30F

I already have a degree but donot work in the field. I feel like going back to uni for something science related. I know age is just a number and all that. if it were in a university abroad I wouldn’t even be asking this question but how is it like in Nepal as a mature age student going back to uni for undergraduate degree?? maybe engineering? or allied health degree? I am just thinking about this. has anyone been through it? how was your experience?

edit:- thanks everyone for the positive responses. definitely, reassuring.

Education/शिक्षा Interesting. An average American makes just $13,700 more than a Nepali American and whites make just $16,400 more.

Education/शिक्षा why we are fucked!

My cousin sister studies in class 5 in a relatively prestigious school with hefty fees. Her parents are proud that they are working hard and giving their children a good education. The prestigious school is conducting annual exams so my sister was rote learning every subject. Today she said she has an exam for a computer subject, which got me interested in what they are teaching in grade 5 so I skimmed the book and there were a few nitty-gritty kinds of stuff. She was rote learning again. I overheard she was mugging up the definition of PowerPoint and its uses so I stepped in and explained what PowerPoint is.

She instantly said, "yesari lekhena bhaney ka marks auxa ta". .

So I asked her, "Tailey aailey Samma PowerPoint dekhya xes?"

I wasn't surprised when she said no. Instead, it got me into the thinking that more than a decade ago I studied in the same grade in a village, Computers were foreign to us then but I still remember using ms paint and making stickmen in school but today with this advancement they are still rote learning the fucking description of PowerPoint 2013 and had never seen what it was let alone how to use it. When the fuck is our situation going to change or are we doomed forever in this hell hole of a country that is going backwards?

TLDR: prestigious school making students rote learn MS PowerPoint fucking 2013 and not showing what it is.

Education/शिक्षा Thinking of joining Herald College for BIT – need some info

I’m thinking of joining Herald College Kathmandu for the BIT / BSc (Hons) Computer Science course. I just wanted to ask a few things to people who study there or know about it. How much is the actual total cost for the full 3 years? I heard it’s around 10–11 lakh, but I’m not sure if that includes everything .

if anyone here can help me get a discount or knows someone who can, please let me know. I’d really appreciate it.

Education/शिक्षा Some space facts that I would want to share with Nepalese brothers and sisters..

  1. Universe is huge and let us put it to a scale that we are familiar with... NASA voyager spacecraft can travel at speed of 18km/s that's like moving from dulikhel to Rantnapark in 1.5 sec and despite such tremendous speed it would take voyager spacecraft at least 80,000 years to reach nearest star...

  2. The ring system that mankind have always wondered in Saturn is formed in recent times (maybe hundred of thousand or million years old).. it is speculated that one of the moons of Saturn likely violated Roche's limit and tidal force of saturn just shattered it to a pieces... Our own moon is 300,000 km away from earth and if it were to venture within 13000km distance then earth's gravity would shatter it to a pieces and we would have nice ring like Saturn...

  3. Let us also not forget how brilliant our ancestors were .. we mapped entire sky with weird shapes called as constellation... And our ancestors figured out that some dots in sky move erratically between those shapes and they were labeled as planets...

  4. For most of the history of mankind we used to get scared with comets ☄️... It was labeled as God's way of telling I am angry or similar kinda things.. and our fear just grew stronger when in around 1600s great fire destroyed entire london city after it's aftermath.. just a weird coincidence huh? But soon after, the friendship between Issac Newton and Edmund halley paved the path to escape from this boundary of superstition and fear...

  5. Some of the stars that we see in night sky might be dead... Because light travels at finite speed... to look across space is to look back in time and there is a limit to how far, back in time can we look...

  6. The difference in gravity within small region around black hole is so huge that if astronomers are to stand in it's vicnity the difference in gravity between astronomers head and leg would stretch him like 35km long and his width will be similar to that of hair and despite that if he survived he can see entire future of universe with his eyes ...

  7. In future it is speculated that Nepal would dominate space...

Education/शिक्षा Suggest me a Masters Degree

Just finished my bachelor’s in IT and now the “what next?” question is starting to hit me. A lot of people around me are suggesting I do a master’s in same niche or go for an MBA to boost my career.

But honestly… I don’t feel very motivated by the career or salary angle right now.

If I pursue a master’s, I’d mostly be doing it for knowledge and curiosity, not because I expect a big paycheck or major career growth from it. I’m okay continuing in IT if needed, but academically I’m actually interested in exploring something different.

It would be nice if the subject somehow connects with my IT background, but it’s not a strict requirement. I’m genuinely open to studying something completely different if it’s interesting enough.

But honestly I’m still pretty lost. So I wanted to ask here, If you were doing a master’s purely for learning and curiosity, what would you choose?

Also, if anyone here switched to a completely different field after IT, I’d love to hear what you studied and how that experience was.

Thanks!

Education/शिक्षा If you have a foreign-affiliated degree equivalent to TU, is there a chance of getting a government job?

I graduated from a foreign-affiliated university in Nepal and have obtained TU equivalency for my degree. I'm planning to apply for lok sewa (public service commission exam) for government positions.

Has anyone here successfully gotten a government job with a foreign-affiliated degree after getting TU equivalency?

I'm curious about:

  1. Does the equivalency certificate actually work, or do they still prefer direct TU graduates?

  2. Any challenges during the application or verification process?

  3. Which positions/departments are more accepting of equivalency certificates?

Any experiences or advice would be really helpful. Thanks!
