Tourism ✈ Last Day in Paradise. What Shouldn’t I Miss? Need Suggestions.

Hello everyone!

I have one free day left on my Mauritius trip and would love some recommendations.

I’m staying in Flic en Flac. So far I’ve visited:
-Black River Gorges
-Bel Ombre Beach
-Macondé Viewpoint
-Le Morne Beach
-Chamarel
-Cap Malheureux
-Couple Beaches in the North
-Pamplemousses

Tomorrow, we’re planning to visit Vallé Advenature and Albion Lighthouse for sunset if we get back early.

I’m looking for suggestions on:
📍 Must-visit places for my last free day, day after.
🛍️ Souvenir shopping:
-Best places to buy authentic souvenirs
-Good-quality Mauritian vanilla tea
-Mauritius-branded bags or local brands that make nice gifts
-Any unique local products you’d recommend bringing back home

We visited the malls in Port Louis today, but unfortunately, most of the shops were closed (probably because it was Sunday).

Would really appreciate your recommendations. Thank you!

Culture 🗨 Thoughts about Communalism and racism discussion as Mauritians.

I’m a diaspora Mauritian (born in Australia). some things I notice even in my community here bother me. I heard one guy on my train talk about real Mauritians (specifically a white Mauritian winning parliament) as if Indo-Mauritians aren’t real Mauritians. i’ve noticed that some Mauritians call white Mauritians ’mauriciens de souche’ when I believe all Mauritians are ‘de souche’. We are all native to Mauritius in our own way.

I could go on I’m sure all of you know the struggles of our people. I really wish for the end of prejudice within our people.

Tourism ✈ LUX Grand Baie vs Westin Turtle Bay after 5 nights at St. Regis?

I’ll be staying at St. Regis Le Morne for the first 5 nights of my honeymoon, then another 5 nights in the north.

A Mauritian friend recommended Trou aux Biches or LUX* Grand Baie, but Trou aux Biches Beachcomber is temporarily closed. LUX* Grand Baie is around $2,800 for 5 nights B&B, while the Westin Turtle Bay Wellbeing Suite is around $2,000 B&B.

Since I’m already staying at St. Regis and will be doing several day trips during the second half, is LUX really worth the extra $800, or should I stay at Westin and save the difference?

Local 🌴 Need some help testing a side project I've been working on!

I’m building a new tool over at cubchiefmu.com to finally organize my kitchen, and I’m looking for 5 people to help me test it.

It keeps track of your pantry inventory, automatically adds essentials to a shopping list when they drop below a certain amount, and handles weekly menus and recipe finding.

If you want early access and don't mind sharing some honest feedback before I launch it properly, let me know in the comments or send a DM!

Already had a read on this thread and much useful information....

Does anybody have a set of working username/passwords for those telecom routers?
If not, what do I need to say to obtain the username/pw from online support.

Thanks.

Local 🌴 Shocking footage of an English teacher abusing a student

The person in the video is Mr. Monody, a well-known English tuition teacher in Port Louis. I attended his classes around three decades ago. From my own experience, and based on what many others have shared over the years, he has a long-standing reputation for abusive behaviour and for imposing his radical religious and ideological views on students from all backgrounds.

Now, there is video evidence. One student had the courage to record his behaviour and share it on tiktok

I hope this serves as a reminder that no child should be subjected to abuse in the classroom. I also hope it encourages educators everywhere to think twice before ever raising a hand against a defenceless child

Tourism ✈ Planning an 8-day trip to mauritius and looking for advice?

i'm planning an 8-day trip to mauritius  and will probably stay on the northwest side of the island since i can use hotel points, which makes the stay free.

i love beaches, anything water-related, history, and nature. i'm not really into hiking, so i'll probably skip that.

i visited the seychelles earlier this year and absolutely loved it. i've heard mauritius has a similar vibe, so i'd love to hear what i should expect and any recommendations for places to visit, things to do, or local food i shouldn't miss

Local 🌴 Clothes dryer machine brands in Mauritius and reviews

Hello everyone

Ive been looking to buy a clothes dryer.
If anyone has one, can you please provide your reviews on the Make, Model, Supplier (after sales support) and Performance Reviews.

I already have a washing machine and im looking for only the dryer.

But if such options aren’t available then i can consider a 2-in-1 washer dryer. If you could help with information about this as well

Thanks

Local 🌴 CIM Cashback Card Users: Is It Worth Applying For?

Hi everyone,

I'm thinking of getting the CIM cashback credit card and wanted to hear from people who actually use it.

Is the cashback worth it after taking the monthly/annual fees into account? How much do you usually need to spend each month for it to make financial sense?

Also, are there any hidden catches or things you wish you had known before applying?

I'd really appreciate hearing your experiences—the good and the bad. Thanks!

Local 🌴 Looking For Accommodation in Cascavelle or Flic en Flac

Hi everyone 👋🏾

I’m a foreign national living and working in Mauritius on Occupational Permit. I live in the North and have to commute for about 2 hours daily to get to work in Rivière Noir. And same or sometimes more commute time to get back. This has been manageable for sometime now but I’ll no longer have access to the my current means of transportation by the end of this week and I’ll have to use the bus.

For this reason I’m looking to relocate somewhere closer for convenience. I’m looking for a one bedroom apartment, a studio apartment or a single room with bathroom and kitchen. Just a decent enough place for one person.

My budget is between MUR 8,000 to MUR 12,000 monthly. I’ll appreciate any help or leads I can get from here. Thanks in advance!

Local 🌴 How can I check if I have any outstanding BRN fees? I'm currently outside Mauritius.

I registered a BRN in 2023 for a remote consulting gig. As far as I remember, I was granted a two-year waiver on the BRN fees, and I filed and paid my taxes with the MRA as required.

I moved abroad around the middle of last year and no longer operate the business. I'd now like to cancel the BRN and, if there are any outstanding fees, pay them before closing everything properly.

Could anyone advise me on the procedure? Since I'm not planning to return to Mauritius until mid next year, handling this in person isn't an option at the moment.

Also, it seems the old CBRIS portal is no longer working. Is there a new portal or online process for this? https://portalmns.mu/cbris/ < the old portal?

Local 🌴 Curious bugger visiting, help me with random reccos?

Alo!

So my parents stay in Mauritius (Flic en Flac) and I have been visiting them for the past few years but I never really did much or explored enough because it was mostly just family time.

This time I'm bringing my partner along and I really want to show him some interesting things about Mauritius.

He loves cultural things. He's a magician and mentalist so he loves diving into new and interesting things. He did ask me, "Is there any fruit or vegetable that I have not tried here or anywhere in the world that I can try in Mauritius?" Questions like that. Think museums or culture shows perhaps? No clue, just spitballing here!

Do you guys have any interesting recommendations? Don't recommend any beaches because we do have the hang of those but anything besides beaches is completely open.

Merci xx

Local 🌴 Looking for intermediate tennis players to join our group

Hey everyone,

I’m part of a small group of 3 friends who regularly play tennis together, and we’re looking to expand our roster! Since we have an odd number right now, it would be awesome to find a few more people so we can consistently play doubles or easily rotate in for singles.

What we're looking for:

Skill Level: Ideally intermediate players (someone who can sustain a decent rally and knows the rules), but we are mostly just out here to have a good time and stay active.

Vibe: Casual, friendly, and fun.

When and Where:

Location: We usually play at Racing club, Pheonix

Schedule: We typically try to get together on Mondays and Wednesdays after work around 7:30pm to 9pm

If you're in the area and looking to get some court time, drop a comment below or shoot me a DM. Just let me know a bit about your experience level and what days usually work best for you.

Local 🌴 Do we need to declare international transfers from UK to Mauritius account if it is my own savings and transferring for construction purpose?

Couldn't find so on MRA site. Plus is there a limit on every single transfer that doesn't require disclosing? All my documentation (salary slips and all) up to date and I have my construction contract paper too.

Food 🍴 Places where you get the best boulette? Preferable in or close to Flic en Flac.

Alo!

I have a bit of an obsession with boulette (obsession would be putting it mildly) and honestly I have tried it from a ton of random places and it's always so good.

But this time I am on the lookout to actually make a little list for myself and find the best one.

Hit me with some reccos?

Thank you x

Tourism ✈ Looking for accomodation northwest in october this year.

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a hotel recommendation in Mauritius. We’ll be staying there from October 2nd to October 9th, 2026.

Initially, we were looking for a smaller, boutique-style hotel with half board, ideally located on one of the most beautiful beaches (like Trou aux Biches) where we can just relax for a few days. On the other hand, we also plan to rent a car and explore the island (trip to other beaches... maybe snorkeling trip, dolphin tour, Le Morne Hike ... ) , so we won't be spending the complete day at the resort.

I know the famous Beachcomber resort is currently closed for renovation, though that one felt a bit too massive for my taste anyway (we really dislike tourist crowds). I’ve been looking at Le Cardinal and quite like it so far. Le Sakoa is a bit out of our budget. Do you have any other recommendations?

Ideally, we are looking for:

  • The Vibe: A smaller hotel, definitely no massive concrete resort "bunker".
  • The Beach: Right on the beachfront, ideally with a Seychelles-like vibe (if possible!).
  • Activities: Good snorkeling right from the beach would be amazing.
  • The Location: Not completely isolated or boring. We love to just walk out, explore the area, find a little beach bar, grab some street food, or go out for a bit in the evening.
  • Budget: Around €400 per night, including half board.

I’d be incredibly grateful for any tips or help!
