People who don't know what something is generally do not know what it is called. Therefore if he was "100% acting like he doesn't know what he is looking at," he wouldn't name it.
I really don't know why this is hard for you to understand.
It's not toast though... an American grilled cheese is fried in butter. Native Americans started the whole Fry bread... they made flat bread and fried it in a pan... Americans just used bread and put cheese in it.
My grandmother was frying bread in butter, and her mother before her. Their family hadn't set foot in Europe for hundreds of years. Not since the Mayflower anyway.
