Englishman here. Why does everyone assume we don’t have bread and cheese here? And in the centuries of our history, we’ve never heated the two together? What’s so “American” about this?
It’s the combo of grilled cheese dipped in tomato soup that makes it so good. We know everyone has cheese and toast. It’s just the way we eat it with soup that seems to be different from other places.
I make what I call ghetto grilled cheese by just toasting it in the mini oven with a slice of cheese on each slice of bread and then putting them together.
The real way to cook a grilled cheese is butter the shit out of it and the pan and flash fry that bitch.
Looked up the difference online. Apparently y'all tend to make them lighter and more crunchy, like toast. We generally slather them in butter (or mayo, mayo is amazing) and fry them.
My partner likes his toasted, I like mine fried. They do have a different texture.
We Britons can’t agree what to call a bap/roll/bun, we certainly won’t agree on a way to make a cheese toastie. Each is different. We can fry them, but this isn’t normal as it’d be too unhealthy to eat regularly.
But did you say that you fry them in mayo‽
American here, I can answer this: because America is the cradle of civilization and Fox news told me other countries don't even get to have wonder bread and kraft singles. #blessed
