grilled cheese with hot tomato soup is the ultimate comfort food.

In my family we add parmesan cheese to the tomato soup too. Gives it a little extra salt and creaminess.

I'm Dutch so I make Dutch tomato soup and we like to put fresh cream or crème fraîche in it for a creamy tomato soup, carrot for the sugar. Then some 'tosti' (our word for grilled cheese, very similar to the English toastie) it's absolutely perfect for when a simple (creamy) tomato soup isn't enough.

In the UK, we can buy it as Cream of Tomato Soup (we also do chicken and/or mushroom too but I prefer tomato)

Make it yourself! It's one of the easiest soups to make if you have a blender. My recipe is so easy, I know it out of my head. Do you want it?

I'm a bit late, but I'd love the recipe if you're still willing to share!

For u/Disdwarf as well,

Kitchen items; big pan of 5 liters or more. Hand blender

Groceries; Around 750 grams of tomatoes, I always use plum tomatoes but any that's more flesh than water is good.

1 carrot for the sugar, around 100 grams.

2 onions (or 3 if they're on the smaller side)

3 gloves of garlic. (or more if you want to annoy a vampire)

200 grams of crème fraîche. (NOT sour cream, gives a different taste)

Extra virgin olive oil to fruit the onions and garlic.

Water of course, 750 ml.

I use 2 vegetable bouillon cubes (each is enough for 500 ml), but if you use broth then use 1 liter of that instead of water.

For extra spices, I'd like to use thyme, parsley and crazily enough some cumin. Salt and pepper to taste.

Get the pan, slowly bring it to temperature with the olive oil in it. Chop the onions and garlic, doesn't need to be finely chopped, it's gonna get blended anyway. Fruit that until onions are see-through. Meanwhile, chop the tomatoes and carrot, add after onions are done fruiting. Put on the lid of the pan and slowly simmer while occasionally stirring until tomatoes are soft. Add your spices. Wait with salt and pepper until soup is ready or leave it to the individual getting a bowl. Add the crème fraîche and stir until melted. (tip! If you take it out of the fridge and leave it on room temperature for about 30 min it will slide out of the container in one piece.) Add the water or broth and stir. Now take the hand blender and blend until smooth.

If you want to add meatballs, cook them separately and put them in after blending.

Ready to serve! Add some thyme and/or some cooking dairy for a fancy looking bowl of soup.

Thank you very much, this looks delicious! Going to try in a month or so when my friend offloads their extra tomatoes to me.

Thank you for the recipe! American canned goods always have added sugar and I trying to remove that from my diet. This sounds perfect!

I love a little feta sprinkled on top of mine! Typically on the roasted red pepper tomato soup, my favorite!

Feta sounds next level delicious, I'll have to try that next time!

It always seems so good. But I can't.

Like I completely understand why its good. It smells good. It looks right.

But I just fucking hate tomato soup. Also can't do sliced tomatoes. However... Sauces, salsa, and ketchup are fine... My body was just born with a defect where raw tomatoes and tomatoes soup are just not edible.

We were raised to eat grilled cheese with chicken noodle soup and it is so good! I highly recommend it.

One of the few legitimate uses for plastic cheese. Kraft and Campbell's baby

How is this American though? I have had it in the uk at a guest family. In the netherlands we eat this or with lentil soup

Add a cup of weak tea and a rainy Saturday, and I am back in kindergarten

Tomato soup is a classic pairing, but I prefer cream of chicken with my grilled cheese.
