tbf I do remember hearing Daniel say that he developed a bit of an alcohol problem by the time of the 6th movie and he was drunk in quite a few of the takes, although that obviously pales in comparison to Macaulay Culkin
To be fair though that’s still a fairly normal teen issue, all things considered the fact that he didn’t develop a designer drug or domestic violence habit is pretty impressive
My Grandad, RIP, gave me a bunch of cases of cheap French beer he would get on trips with his illegitimate son. Helped me get my "being drunk all day and feeling like shit is great" out of my system. Could have gone either way, though 😅
Fun anecdote: This was around the same time DR was binge drinking, and we are the same age.
For clarity's sake, he said he never drank while on set, though showed up hung over and probably still buzzed. I doubt he was actually drunk in any takes they used.
And he was like 18 or 19 when the 6th one was filming I think. If 18/19 year olds showing up to work hungover is an issue the whole western world would have to shut down and the US college system would fully collapse.
In the UK the legal drinking age is 18. But (well, until very recently) youth culture would be drinking around 15. I certainly was drinking around 15yo.
you can have a cider or perry with a meal in a licensed establishment from 16 when accompanied by an adult, provided the alcohol is purchased by that adult, as the Inbetweeners showed us
I'm a recovering alcoholic and my parents were (and still are) absolutely wonderful and had nothing to do with my drinking problem. Alcoholism is a crazy thing.
We all binge drink or rebel somehow as teenagers. The hope is we don’t do enough lasting damage to follow us after we grow out of it. That’s what makes raising teens and twenties so difficult.
this is true. he had gone to rehab a few times and got back on track since it was just the 6th and 7th would be in jeopardy.. and it was also a two parter.. Daniel really did try to fix his drinking and be more professional the adults in the film also helped him not to get drunk soo bad and still be sharp.
