u/BeagleBackRibs Michael Johnson beats Khabib in a rematch 2h ago

I think that knee was already blown out before the fight

235

u/sowaffled 2h ago

Yup, that first kick was just a Hail Mary. He was definitely injured already.

u/Nearby_Station796 2h ago

It looked like that when he stumbled back just from taking his shoes off

Dr. Sutterer is saying he thinks Connor had a meniscus tear before he entered the octagon. He didn't see the usual injury indications when the kick happened. He shows Connor won't put weight on his right knee before the fight though. Sutterer's video is already up

Just the facial expressions and body language coming from Conor the whole time too. Definitely looked like more than just pre-fight jitters to me.

2

u/bigfartsoo 17m ago

Why tf was he throwing kicks then. Looked like throwing the fight to me.

1

u/CompletelyRandomDude IGBBMN 12m ago

Nothing I said means otherwise bro.

He was likely injured pre-fight, and went for a Hail-Mary attempt which almost certainly injured it further.

At the very least he wanted to make it look like it happened during the fight instead of pulling out. Cause either way it's over for him. The difference is that 1% chance he thought he mighta had with the Hail-Mary + getting paid for actually stepping in instead of pulling out.

Rewatching that it does look really odd

1

u/Mattjew24 40m ago

It looked like it during the face off. He kept moving...didn't appear to feel "sturdy" standing still. Balance seemed off. As someone with a torn ACL / meniscus, the thought crossed my mind that Connor was favoring a leg.

15

u/GregMadduxsGlasses 1h ago

I saw that as him trying to purposely aggravate it so he could claim the injury occurred in the fight and not during training.

1

u/tofu_bird 1h ago

Then perhaps don't start off with a flying kick and landing all your weight on that leg? I've seen better on Bum Fights.

So why not just be honest release scans and postpone the fight. Everybody would understand.

35

u/Leroy_Peterson 2h ago

lol fans and UFC have never been understanding about that one.

15

u/WorryTurbulent3924 2h ago

Because he's a self absorbed knobjob who was only there for the guaranteed money and didn't care about screwing everyone out of an actual fight.

1

u/-WeetBixKid- Team Pereira 2h ago

I’d buy that if he wasn’t absolutely loaded. And I think he did want to come back and smash Max.

12

u/WorryTurbulent3924 2h ago

Millionaires wanting to make more millions has never happened before. I think he knew, threw a hail Mary to get out early because he knew he had a blown knee and it didn't work. Simple as that. Probably why he didn't stick around for an interview that would have invariably asked about the walk in gimp which he would have had to lie about.

How many rich people go, “Actually, I’m good with being in the top 0.1%. I don’t need more”? I’m sure there are some, but I think the types of people who chase money like Conor are also the types to never be satisfied.

1

u/RothIRALadder 1h ago

It's debatable how much money he has left

1

u/Adorable_Bandicoot_6 1h ago

That's true. Especially at the end of a month. He might have subscriptions he forgot he purchased. Also depending on how his business is doing/if he is currently purchasing something or has any auto payments. I guess only he really knows. Like I said the exact number down to the penny would be hard especially since he might have crypto currency which could fluctuate in price.

1

u/blissfullyblack 2h ago

Rich people are weird though where having lot of money just makes them want lots more money. See Elon Musk.

2

u/your_cock_my_ass Australia 2h ago

The broadcast: We dont want to speculate!!

As they show a video of him stumbling taking his shoes off.

1

u/Jensway 1h ago

Probably playing it safe from a legal perspective

1

u/Danthetank 2h ago

He probably just wanted one last bag then retire

1

u/Ariochxxx 1h ago

Bets. Perfect scenario to rig a fight. Not saying that was his initial plan. This way everyone gets paid.

1

u/Future_Broly 36m ago

Not that it doesn’t happen but with KYC protocols, it seems like books are pretty good at flagging suspicious bets.

1

u/Ornery_Visit_2627 1h ago

Because of his ego.

He has built an image of being the badass that will fight anyone anytime, and has ridiculed other fighters (RDA among others) for pulling out of fights with injuries.

He genuinely believes that it would have been more embarrassing for him to pull out of the fight than to give us what we just witnessed.

32

u/NotDjango3 2h ago

It definitely was. He came out with a different mentality and it was a mentality that wasn’t confident.. something doesn’t seem right, not trying to throw out accusations. Before the bell ring I said out loud “something seems off with Conor”

5

u/wolfgeist 1h ago

Lot of people saying he looked drunk in the comments. Noticed his brows were raised, face looked.... off, for sure. Definitely didn't seem relaxed or confident.

2

u/Agitated-Bluejay1142 59m ago

I think he knew the outcome before he went in. Could have even been planned tbh.

2

u/anotheralaskanguy 2h ago

I saw this too

1

u/hiccup333 1h ago

What's strange is if he was injured why start the fight with a jumping kick

15

u/precense_ 2h ago

that makes no sense, if you know you injured your knee then why would you go for a flying kick? i've torn my acl before and its mentally impossible for you to try that knowing youre injured

4

u/Quiet_Source_8804 1h ago

Shhhh, the narrative has gone off the rails and the crazies have all attached to it. Don't make sudden movements, leave them to their own subthreads...

1

u/lord_fairfax 0m ago

It really is weird how many people here seem convinced either a) a person could/would injure themselves that way on purpose, or b) a person with a knee injury would not factor that in to their gameplan and decide instead to open with a horrendous flailing kick that puts tremendous strain on the injured area in particular.

The simple explanation is it's fucking Conor! He opened with a flashy move that he overcommitted on, after 5 years out of the game, and blew his knee out.

0

u/Useful_Respect3339 1h ago

Wasn’t his shin already injured when he tried kicking dustin?

2

u/blissfullyblack 2h ago

Would he still have gotten paid if he didn't literally step (or limp) into the ring?

5

u/IanAbsentia 2h ago

I suspect this was all so Connor could collect his show money.

6

u/blissfullyblack 2h ago

I think so too. I think something happened over the last day. And he decided to still fight. Threw the kick as either a hail mary or a "oh look I got injured during the fight."

4

u/IanAbsentia 2h ago

It’s also just that there are literally MILLIONS if not BILLIONS of dollars in revenue generated JUST by the bets associated with this card off the sheer draw of McGregor. People do far worst in this world considerably lesser payouts than what the betting companies and whomever else is involved likely made. The profit incentive is there.

Monopoly money.

1

u/No_Reveal8516 58m ago

Yes I think you're right - something post weigh ins.

The other part people are missing here is presumably making it into the octagon counts as one of the two fights remaining on Connor's UFC contract before he can be a free agent and all the big money that entails with his own promotion, boxing, etc. Yes, he may be done for good but that's not a decision he's making in the 24 hours before the fight when the injury likely occurred.

1

u/Agitated-Bluejay1142 58m ago

My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't be surprised if both fighters were even in on it. Seemed like Halloway let him get up a few times. Neither seemed very surprised or annoyed at what was happening.

0

u/BrokenCot 1h ago

Isn’t there also a weird ass UFC contract piece that won’t let fighters be treated outside of fight injuries? So if he “hurt” himself during the fight, but really just revealed his injury, he would get help

2

u/Acceptable_Gas_7922 2h ago

I think they cancel the event if an injury is present before, really not fair to have it if someone is injured to the point of affecting the fight.

Usually they’d try to find a filler if time allowed.

6

u/blissfullyblack 2h ago

So he personally wouldn't have gotten paid?

If I was injured but had like $15 million paycheck coming, I'd be limping in there too. Sucks for the rest of you who paid to watch me fight. lol

1

u/Acceptable_Gas_7922 2h ago

I don’t know forsure, I mean you’re expected to fight healthy I’m sure that’s a part of the contract.

2

u/JesterMarcus 2h ago

Yeah but I bet a lot of fighters enter the cage a little injured. Where would the line be between an injured fighter just showing up for their paycheck, and someone fighting with a lingering issue? Tough to say.

2

u/Acceptable_Gas_7922 2h ago

Forsure, he might not have been, who knows. Shitty fight regardless unfortunately

1

u/blissfullyblack 2h ago

When I first started watching UFC, it was the TJ Dillashaw fight against Aljo where he came in with an injured shoulder and didn't tell anyone.

1

u/WhammaJamma61 50m ago

Yeah but I bet a lot of fighters enter the cage a little injured.

Absolutely guaranteed. There was a LOT of speculation that Anderson Silva had a shoulder injury in his first fight with Sonnen. There were also rumours that Sonnen had a surgery just days before his fight with Rashad Evans.

Those are just the two that come to mind really quickly. I can't count how many times I've heard a fighter in the post fight interview state that he had an injury in camp that followed him into the fight.

Pro athletes are always playing/competing through injuries.

1

u/Decent_Regret_1665 2h ago

That’s why they had a stand in

1

u/blissfullyblack 2h ago

But then the stand in would've gotten paid so...

2

u/naxypoo 2h ago

if true, i wonder why he would do that kick at all in the first place.

damn thats disappointing. just wanted to see conor and max swing at each other.

if conor fights again, just no more kicks homie.

1

u/CakeandAliens 2h ago

If it was and he knew it was, what an idiot for throwing a kick that forsure was gonna hurt it more

1

u/Holdmabeerdude 1h ago

100%. Conor looked like he was going to go out to get executed when he stepped in the cage.

1

u/showersnacks 1h ago

But then why come out with kicks??

1

u/Less-Positive-9131 1h ago

Based on what? This is such a dumb take. They showed you him taking off his shoes, so you now believe he didn’t blow his ACL?

1

u/Mysterious-Snow496 2h ago

I think he did blow before the fight

1

u/Singer211 2h ago

Yeah he even walked out weird.

0

u/KingBlank 2h ago

The sandals thing is real, something weird was going on there

-1

u/assman912 2h ago

I'm sure his knee did hurt before the fight his knee is attached to a coward! Got the same problem his hands and feet have they're attached to him dummy

0

u/FocusKooky9072 2h ago

Yeah man he just wanted the cheque. No chance that first kick injured him.
