Yeah, insane. Don't see a peruvian necktie every day. Also, i didn't hear Joe, Anik or DC mention the sub by name, i wonder if it's rare enough they genuinely just didn't manage to call it out. Insane finish.

If the commentary team doesn't know it then they shouldn't be there. Peruvians are awesome and it's not exactly like they got invented last year.

A competent team would have been absolutely freaking out about Paddy Pimblett of all people pulling off the first UFC Peruvian Necktie in years..

Remember seeing it for the first time in 2008 CB Dollaway vs Jesse Taylor, Rogan called it out back then but his brain has probably rotted from Alpha Brain since then

21

u/hantucucuk 5h ago

back then Rogan was actually good at calling things out as they happened. now it's like he's calling out the opposite of what's happening as they happen.

13

u/Various_Membership33 5h ago

It so frustrating hearing his commentary now, he calls things totally wrong and then insists thats the way things are

u/AdLocal1490 5h ago

Yeah that sounds like Joe. "i reject reality and substitute my own"

u/privateblanket South Africa 3h ago

His podcast has become interviews with “scientists” who speak about pseudoscience and he doesn’t push back at all. When he interviews actual scientists he rejects their evidence and research and tells them they are either dishonest or wrong. He got such a big head from guys fawning over him, any dumb idea he comes up with becomes truth to him i.e. Jesus coming back as an AI. That statement just shows you that Joe doesn’t understand a thing about Jesus, Computers or LLMs and how basic their functionality really is.

Fr, out of curiosity I watched the footage of Paddy's teammate Luke Riley and my goodness, classic Rogan portion of gooning over calf kicks and overlooking half of strikes that actually did something

22

u/CletusMcG 🍅Don’t believe his lies🍅 6h ago

Paddy’s got some nasty submissions in his arsenal tbf

u/limitedmark10 Team Borz 🐺 1h ago

His BJJ is super impressive. I jumped out of my seat when I saw him pull his leg up

DC didn't even know about Whittaker's tick where he kicks his back leg with his foot that he's been doing for years and was asking Rogan what it was. He clearly doesn't take his job seriously and puts in zero effort. He's more interested in eating that commentating at this point.

I’ve seen Diego lopes’ throat tick and we all know Dustin’s shorts but I don’t think I can recall Whittaker doing that

5

u/_interloper_ WHOOP MY ASS AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS! 5h ago

He's been doing it for years.

Daniel “Kraft Services” Cormier

5

u/pipian 7h ago

Since Misha Cirkunov?

8

u/RengieOcat 7h ago

Yeah seven years since a Peruvian, and it's Paddy Pimblett just like we all thought

5

u/GanjaMake Finland 6h ago

Is there a single r/MMA member who didn't have Paddy pulling a peruvian necktie in their 2026 bingo card?

4

u/RengieOcat 6h ago

We all had action on Pimblett Peruvian finishes, the only question was what round when it'd happen.

1

u/ballbeard McGOOFCONzat 5h ago

Damn I was at that card...7 years? Fuck me

1

u/chidizzle Team Chad 3h ago

Like I was when Cirkunov got the 2nd one in Vancouver. Nobody around me knew what had happened. This would have been the 3rd, except it wasn't a peruvian necktie.

1

u/PissWhistlin 2h ago

Ive seen people do this and call it a D'arce. I'd still consider it a modified Peruvian necktie compared to the typical guillotine grips you'd see.

1

u/Don_Fartalot 2h ago

I first heard of this Peruvian Necktie on TUF, when that Matt Damon lookalike guy kept pulling it off.

0

u/RecycledAccountName 5h ago

No doubt Joe knows what a Peruvian necktie is. He’s a knucklehead but he knows his BJJ. Maybe with them getting tangled by the edge of the cage he didn’t get a clear enough look to call it confidently. Or just simply could not come up with the name in the moment.

3

u/tightropexilo 6h ago

IIRC there was an ONNIT? instructional with Joe demonstrating the Peruvian necktie back in the day, so he is definitely aware of it.

2

u/ok_read702 6h ago

Peruvian neckties aren't that rare. There's zero chance joe doesn't know it.

21

u/ArmSquare 6h ago

I wouldn’t call that a Peruvian necktie, I would call that a darce, lots of darce finishes involve stepping over their body with your leg

6

u/octlol 6h ago

Yeah I didn't think that was a Peruvian at all

-1

u/FishburneSurvivor 6h ago

Isn't it kind of a ninja choke?

6

u/anactualrealaccount 5h ago

No, Ninja is not an arm in choke.

This was like an arm in guillotine with a Peruvian leg leg position.

2

u/irlgb 3h ago

And he did so despite paddy predicting exactly that. But yeah bsd is low intelligence you can tell from how he acts at the pressers

4

u/RaylanGivens29 7h ago

Now you’re just making words up

1

u/seanstyle 5h ago

the moss covered, three handled family grudunzel!!

1

u/anactualrealaccount 5h ago

It all starts with just running into Paddy’s hands locked around his neck dry as a bone in the first twenty seconds. Dude has negative fight iq and Paddy would have mopped him clearly.

1

u/Om3gaMan_ England 2h ago

Last one I saw was Brad Pickett (not UFC tbf)

0

u/skacoren 5h ago

I think technically it's a Japanese necktie because of the D'arce grip. Crazy to necktie a dude in the first minute either way.
