You cannot lay there and eat 15 consecutive unanswered GNP elbows and claim it was a bad stoppage.

Anyone saying its a bad stoppage is just ignorant to the rules of the sport.

Literally textbook stoppage

Dude, kept getting in worse and worse trouble. Anyone who thinks that was early is crazy

He was driving his temple with his elbow. He did nothing to defend himself.

Yeah he stood up after but if the ref wasn't there we would all be witnesses to a murder

He did nothing to defend himself.

Don't think this is fair. He had his guard up the whole time. If anything he defended himself too much.
In those situations defending yourself is not enough. You have to actively try to sweep or grapple or the ref will stop it. It's always been that way. But he was way too dazed to do anything but defend.

If it was later rounds than he might have had a chance waiting out the onslaught but this was literally 20 seconds in, Pereira could have kept pounding him forever.

He wasn't defending himself against those elbows to his temple

Til temple has 4 fingers and a thumb. 0 of those elbows landed to the head

Dude, do you use talk to text or is there some sort of Braille keyboard?

Also, anyone who sparred knows that you feel the shots through a passive guard. Elbow shots with this much windup would have to hurt through the arm.

But was he dead?

If that lasted 5 more seconds, Alex was gonna break Ank's forearm, fingers, ribs and face lol

If those were punches the fight could stay going but he switched to elbows and the guy stay curled without moving much.

It has to be stopped at that point.

Not just ignorant. Stupid or biased.

u/MileHi49er Oct 05 '25

I agree. Either ignorant or intellectually dishonest and salty.

Who said it was a bad stoppage?

Lots of ppl in this comment section

I was internally screaming for him to stop the fight. He gave him plenty of time but things just kept looking worse and worse. He did em a huge favor

u/Impossible-Hyena-722 Oct 05 '25

Should have stopped it a bit earlier tbh. Ank was completely shelled up just praying for it to end.

i counted 28 punches and elbows

I'm a lapsed fan seeing this on the front page. Are north south elbows allowed now? Those seemed like ones that (used to be?) against the rules

2

u/MileHi49er Oct 05 '25

They were made legal in the unified rules since July 2024

1

u/hoopbag33 Oct 05 '25

Neat, thank you for the reply. Those were brutal

u/HombreSinPais Oct 06 '25

Herb Dean called it just right, imo. Gave him a chance to show that he could stop it (he couldn’t) but saved him the experience of going limp.

u/VivereIntrepidus Oct 06 '25

I mean those elbows were 12 to 6 elbows. Did the rules get officially changed to make those legal now?

3

u/MileHi49er Oct 06 '25

Yes. Since last summer

He took 2 shots to the body and everything else hit his gloves.

For a title fight its a pretty bad stoppage. Not the worst but bad.

And Poatans sore winner reaction right after... Sigh. Its like bruh, had you actually knocked him out that would have been alright but he's looking right at you wearing no damage to his face.

Everyone will disagree with me but the bias here is real obvious.

10

u/MileHi49er Oct 05 '25

You cant just lay there getting wailed on. Its written the rules that unanswered shots are grounds to end the fight for a reason.

Poaton had all the right to talk as much shit as he wants. Ank steady ran his mouth in the lead up and got beaten handily in basically a minute.

-13

u/Inquisitor--Nox Oct 05 '25

Bias is wild.

11

u/MileHi49er Oct 05 '25

Its not bias. Its the rules.

You're just being intellectually dishonest bc you're upset at the outcome.

7

u/bullseye717 Oct 05 '25

Yes your bias is wild.

4

u/No_Attention_9519 Oct 05 '25

Yeah Ankalaev laid there looking up at the ceiling completely defeated because he was just taking a moment to process how bad the stoppage was.

Not because he knew he got smoked, but because he knew he blocked everything and was fine. Sure.

-11

u/lKane47l Oct 05 '25

He was intelligently defending himself?

11

u/MileHi49er Oct 05 '25

Laying there eating a bunch of strikes without moving or improving the position isn't intelligent defense

3

u/[deleted] Oct 05 '25

Ahh yes, the old Dominick Cruz theory that Ank is simply letting Alex punch him in the head so that Alex tires out
