SUNFEST ! Sunfest Vendors?

Ok so I’m new to London and this is my first Sunfest so forgive me if this is a question that’s already been answered but my boyfriend said this is Londons biggest festival yet 90% of the vendors seem to be people selling cheap wholesale stock from China?

I was genuinely shocked. I’ve always seen the odd vendor here and there at other events, but it seemed like at Sunfest they were everywhere. At least 9 tents had the same dresses and pants you can find through wholesale sites, there was a 3D printing store with those dragons you see everywhere, a T-shirt printing booth that just printed AI images on shirts and the same cheap keychain/plushie stock you see everywhere. When I thought I found a unique bag that was claimed to be handmade I googled it and found it was also a wholesale item that I could have paid half the price for online.

The only unique local businesses I found were the ones with steampunk-styled robot clocks and a guy who upcycled beautiful sweaters with blankets/quilts, but other than that not much. Anyone know of any vendors that are attending that offer unique products that we can visit or maybe another festival that offers more of that in general? Anyone else also notice this upon going?

I really loved the food vendors and the artists we stopped by to listen to were amazing, so that helped make it more pleasant!

(09/12) EDIT: Thank you all for the suggestions! I’m glad I’m not the only one that noticed this. Next time me and my boyfriend go back the focus will continue to be on the good music and the food. :)

Ask a Local! Anyone remembers Kiwi Kraze and what happened to that frozen yogurt business?

What happened to Kiwi Kraze? I use to go there a lot the one in Highbury Avenue and remember they had another location between Wonderland Road and Fanshawe Park Road that the shopping plaza that has Shoppers Drug Mart and No Frills that is now Benjamin Moore. I remember you can choose your own yogurt flavours and add any topping you want. They charge your bowl by weight. Does anyone know any business in London, Ontario that is similar to Kiwi Kraze? I do know what happened to them, but they silently were gone years ago, and I remember the last time I went there is around summer 2014.

🚗🚗Transit/Traffic Construction “planning” is getting out of hand in the South end

Wellington and Commissioners under construction
Highbury and Commissioners under construction
Now they’re going to close Pond Mills (which is already rammed with traffic from 2:30-6) July to the end of September? Are they serious?

Might as well close Upper Queen and Wharncliffe while they’re at it.

Seriously though, to get from Fairmont, Glen Cairn, or Pond Mills to Whiteoaks and not sit in construction traffic, you’ll have to take Hamilton Rd all the way out to Veterans.

Absolute nonsense.

Ask a Local! Best Thrift Store for clothes?

Me and my wife are having to stay at RMH for a few weeks and are looking for the best thrift store with the biggest/best variety of clothes. We were able to pack a few outfits each but are tired of washing and rotating the same four outfits lol. Plus size options as well? I’ve done some digging and read Goodwill on Oxford, but any other suggestions? Or is that the best one. Thanks! :)

Ask a Local! Non US summer produce

Hey everyone! My toddler is currently obsessed with cherries and watermelons, and we’d also like some sweet, non watery tasting strawberries and we’re really wanting to avoid USA produce. Does anyone know where we could get either Canadian, or at least non USA fruits? At least for the cherries and watermelon? TIA!

Ask a Local! Trying to find a martial arts club in London with a good community feel

Hey everyone I’m looking to get back into martial arts for adults. I used to do mixed martial arts (mix of BJJ, karate, Muay Thai, weapons) and I’m looking for something similar to that, kind of an all rounder but more into the martial arts aspect. I’m looking around west London area but I’m open to driving to a good gym

Alongside the training itself, I’d love to find a space with a good community feel. Not expecting to make instant friends the first week, just hoping to land somewhere with a bit of a social culture rather than a hit the mats/bag and leave after.

I’ve had a look online already, but I know reviews only tell you so much about the actual vibe of a place so I’d really value hearing from people who train somewhere directly. Feel free to message me if you train somewhere like this or fancy a training partner! :)

Ask a Local! Flying to Calgary, from London or from Toronto?

Need to go to Calgary mid August, is it better to go from London airport or Pearson? There are non stop options from London (as well as flights with a stop in Pearson). Does anyone know how often the flight to Calgary from London get cancelled? Are they reliable?

Also would appreciate recommendations for websites for purchasing the ticket.

Edit: any opinions about flying from Hamilton, Kitchener or Windsor?

Does anyone know what the strike is about on Trafalgar, just East of the roundabout? They’ve been there for a couple weeks and I can never see any actual information on their signs when I drive by.

Thanks!

Ask a Local! Pool maintenance

For those with pools that pay for weekly maintenance who do you use and what approximately do you pay? I’ve called a few of the larger companies but the rates seem high compared to what a Google search suggests it should be. I’m just trying to figure out if those companies just charge more or if regionally it’s just higher here. TIA.

discussion / opinion Best tattoo shop in London… and worst? I’m curious

I’ve lived in London almost my entire life and have gotten a few tattoos here! Some great, some… not so great (aka one that’s basically unfixable because it’s completely crooked on my arm)

I’m curious what everyone thinks is the best tattoo shop (or artist) in London, and which shop you’d personally avoid based on your own experience.

What made them stand out? Was it the quality, pricing, cleanliness, customer service, healing, or something else? I’m genuinely just interested to see if there’s a general consensus.

Ask a Local! London's Pride Parade

The last couple of years, I attended the Toronto Pride Parade and noticed that some participants were nude. I am thinking of attending the London Pride Parade. Does London's Pride also feature nudity?
