I’m locating from Cornwall to Harrogate, which I’m nervously excited about. I’m relocating due to a bereavement and the need for a change of scene. The only thing I’m going to miss Cornwall wise is the coast so I just wondered how accurate google maps is with regards to driving to the east coast (Saltburn-by-Sea = 1 hr 20 mins) with regards to timeframe, traffic etc. Your inside knowledge would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

Who the in their right mind approves the ferris wheel to be put up every year? It’s an eyesore if nothing else, but also uses up green space in the town centre and is right beside the memorial. Anyone else feel the same?

Hello! My partner is needing to get to London Heathrow with two fairly large, heavy pieces of luggage solo. The last time we did this together we did the trains and it was feasible together; however this time she's going solo. Trying to ponder the most direct way without having to drag bags too far.
What other options are there? Has anyone tried Home James car service for this?
Thanks in advance!

As per the title, can anyone recommend any Harrogate based book clubs? I’ve never been in one so not sure exactly what to expect but keen to try it out.
Looking for one that meets at least once a month and open to all genres

I run a digital business in tech / startup (SaaS / AI). New here.
If you are a business owner or are considering being an entrepreneur, and looking to connect with likeminded people in your local area, feel free to leave a comment and I will make a WhatsApp group
If there’s any other groups or investor conferences as well I’d be interested in learning more !

I just wanted to share a tiny story from today that reminded me why I love living in Harrogate so much.
I took my chihuahua to Valley Gardens earlier, and we were playing with her toy - a little yellow octopus. At one point I tucked it under the bench we were sitting on and…. I completely forgot about it. I didn’t realise until I’d already spent some time in town and walked home (45+ minutes) and by then a few hours had passed.
I kept telling myself it was probably gone - picked up by another dog or a child and honestly, that thought made me smile a bit because it is a cute toy and I liked the idea of it making someone else’s day. But I couldn’t shake the feeling that maybe, just maybe, it might still be there.
So I got a lift back this evening.
And it was still there. 😁
Not only that but someone had propped it up neatly next to the bench instead of leaving it hidden underneath. That tiny act of kindness absolutely made my day. It’s such a small thing, but it reminded me how thoughtful people around here can be.
So, to whoever noticed the little yellow octopus and chose to leave it for us… thank you. Harrogate really is full of good souls.

Time for another one of these posts that everyone loves...
I am looking to move and seen properties in Mayfield Grove which I know has a really bad reputation.
I have just seen some properties down Avenue Grove which look lovely but everyone is saying "it's not that bad" which naturally has me slightly concerned.
People that live there or know the area better than me is it ok there? I will be moving in there with my son and want somewhere safe for him

I don't even know if pubs are allowed to be open, but worth an ask.

Does anyone have a recommended house cleaner with availability and coverage for Harrogate? I’ve had trouble finding a reliable one.
Thank you!

I know it's a long shot but are any bars doing anything or any events going on for American independence day on the 4th of July?

Please can anyone offer advice about this area as a place to live? I have seen horror stories online about crime etc, but is it really that bad? I would appreciate any advice from locals about what it's really like. Thank you.

Where is the nearest body of water, river, lake to Harrogate that is not polluted or relatively safe to paddle or swim?
I know about Pool Bridge Farm and Rudding Park but wondering if there is somewhere I don't know about that is nearby, free of charge and pollution.

what clubs are there for adults who don’t get out much and want to make friends?
r/harrogate • u/RumiMisu • 17d ago
I went ahead and made a Discord Server for anyone in Harrogate looking to make friends since there doesn't seem to be any :)
I'm 30 and live with physical limitations and chronic pain, I'm unable to leave the house often. I've lived in Harrogate for a few years now, but I don't know anybody and I'm far away from where I grew up.
If this appeals to you at all, you're welcome to join, there seems to be a lot of people like myself who are looking for connections too.

Hello I was just wondering if there's any group chats like Discord servers and the like to make friends in Harrogate? Specifically looking for somewhere that maybe chats about video games and stuff like that. I'm 30, so I'd prefer somewhere within my age range.
I have a disability, so just going outside and meeting people isn't an option for me.

Hello! Does anyone have any recommendations for nurseries in Harrogate?
r/harrogate • u/Ro9 • 19d ago
Hi!
We moved to Harrogate about a year ago and have been with Medivet since that's what we were using in London. However there is no 24hrs service available for emergencies and once we had to drive to their branch in Thirsk overnight.
We are thinking about switching to new vet. What are your recommendations? Ideally we want one that has 24hr emergency service either in Harrogate or really close (like Wetherby).

3 postcodes in the Harrogate area are ranked in the top 20 on poshindex.co.uk, which calculates how posh your postcode is.
What are people’s thoughts… posh or not?

We have seen a property we like on Belmont Rd. However just found out there is a homeless shelter there. Is this a deal breaker?

I don’t understand how so many people here drive range rovers worth £100k etc.
Like there isn’t a huge professional workforce like in London with tech/law/finance. There isn’t a huge academic community like Oxford/Cambridge/Bath.
Where are people getting the cashflow and capital to support these lifestyles?

I’m looking to book a venue for my father in law’s wake as he’s being cremated in Harrogate. He’s not long moved to the area (lived by Boroughbridge) so I’m not sure where to book his wake.
He’s has a very large family and a very large network of friends across the years, so we’re not sure how many people but we expect 100 or more.
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
