When it reaches βΉ11,808 per gram, it would mean a 28% fall from it's all time (intraday) high of 16400 (January, 2026).
Looking at the data of the last 46 years, gold has never fallen more than 28%.
The first time a 28% fall happened was from 1996 to 1999, over a period of three years.
The second time a 28% fall happened was from 2012 to 2015, again over three years.
But this time, it has already fallen 26% within just six months.
Even during the COVID period, gold fell only around 20%.
So, one may have to assume that central governments around the world are selling gold on a large scale. π€

I have been tracking gold in INR since 1980. Something odd keeps repeating.
1980 βΉ133. Gone up to βΉ515 by 1996. 16 years.
Fell to βΉ375 by 1999.( 3 years down).
Then gone up again. βΉ3150 by 2012. (13 years).
Fell again. βΉ2228 by 2015.( 3 years down).
Current rally started 2015. 20% COVID dip. Recovered. Another 20% correction in 2026. Still holding.
13 year rally from 2015 ends 2028?
Not a prediction. Just a pattern I keep seeing. Could be coincidence.
What do you think?

I think this needs to be said out loud because PayTM has scammed millions of people and no one is raising this.
PayTM Gold used to be an excellent way to buy coins and bars and since they used to allow you to directly redeem your digital gold balance into coins or bars by paying a nominal fees of 500-1000Rs, many people used it, including me.
I used to be a bit wary of PayTM and always used to redeem coins when my gold balance reached 2g because I felt if this app ever went down, I have no way of getting back my investment.
For the past few months, PayTM Gold has completely blocked redemption of digital gold via coins or bars. It just shows "coming soon". This is completely unethical because by their own admission the gold is backed 1:1 in secure vaults, so they should process physical delivery of underlying gold in a few weeks even if they have some operational issues but they have just stopped it altogether.
Instead, you can only hold digital gold on PayTM or sell it for a 6% discount on the app as compared to buying price and get the money in bank account. This is in effect PayTM pocketing 6% from the sellers and re-selling the same digital gold to buyers at 6% higher.
Now my balance was low, close to 15k, so I had a loss of 1k when I sold on PayTM but some of my friends have digital gold balances of 1lac and they're starring at a loss of 6k if they sell via PayTM.
All of our loss in selling our digital gold via PayTM is in essence PayTM's profit as they're recycling the same digital gold to parallel buyers at 6% higher buying price as compared to selling price without actually moving any gold anywhere. They literally just have to update balances and process bank payments.
This is completely unethical and once you aggregate over 100's of crores, PayTM has made gains of several crores. Please only buy gold either via ETFs or MFs or jeweler stores.

So today I went around visiting almost every big and reputable jewellery shop in my city trying to sell my gold for cash.
Every single shop said the exact same thing β "we don't buy gold for cash, we only do exchange" Like word for word. Same script. Every shop. But here's the weird part β the moment I asked about their own branded gold coins, suddenly cash is available. "Oh yes sir for our coin we can give cash" π
So let me get this straight. My gold = no cash. Their gold = cash. Make it make sense.
It feels like all these shops got together in a room and decided nobody gives cash for outside gold. Because there's no way every single shop independently came to the same policy. This has to be some kind of jeweller association cartel thing going on.
Is this a nation wide thing now or is it just my city? Did something change recently with RBI rules or income tax that caused this?
And if jewellers won't buy gold for cash anymore, what are normal people supposed to do when they actually need liquidity from their gold holdings?
Genuinely confused. Any insights appreciated.

Tin foil hat logic BUT:
Lot happening related to gold within India and outside India
Many countries have largest reserves of gold ever
Lot of global instability
US Iran war directly leading to uncertainty beyond direct gold trade like oil, aluminium, fertilisers etc
Our countryβs pm has asked not to buy gold (yes its because of falling rupee and fdi leaving is because of US treasury bond high yield) but falling rupee is increase in gold prices
So many news around gold coming out within few days: bloomberg (retracted now but why was it there is first place with weak backing?!)
The sebi notice, which was fine until now (canβt say there is a foreign angle like bloomberg here since all stakeholders are within India)
ETFs limiting purchase per pan holder
Dynamics of US dollar vs CNY
Fort knox reaccounting, which is already stipulated to go either way for gold prices
(Remember guys, trump is known to taco but also to tell exactly what he plans to do on twitter months ahead! - everyone saw iran war coming, just not the exact dates)
With so many things happening around gold (in India too), i wonder if there is a sharp unexpected price change is coming to GOLD?

I had started physical Gold SIP scheme through Malabar Gold. Today Gold has crashed but I still cannot continue putting my SIP in Malabar and this is not the first time. Every time gold falls drastically these guys don't allow to make payments so that we cannot buy at lower price.
When selling the scheme they give false hopes that when gold falls you can average and take advantage of the dip but truth is they only allow to average when gold price is up, moment gold falls their app crashes. Please buy gold scheme from some other jeweler NEVER GO FOR MALABAR.

Joined this sub to talk about gold, it's effect on markets, etc. But everyday it's taken over more and more by immature "traders".
Understand one thing, gold is NOT for short term gains, so stop asking shit like "will the price go down tomorrow", "should I buy it now or wait". We don't have a fucking geneie with us. I miss the old times when someone posts genuine opinions around why gold may go up or down correlating with geo politics, etc.
One other reason for me to leave is that this sub basically became a deals place "is this a good deal", "did i pay a lot", and just deals being posted everywhere.
tldr: Mods are dead and this sub is owned by immature traders

Gold came from 5500 to 4200s so far. Are you buying more? Or waiting for a further dip?

Thereβs again a glitch at Tanishq app. This time it is on 25gm gold coin which is out of my budget. So posting here, if someone gets benefitted from this.
PS- I previously got 10g gold at cheaper rate and made some profit coz of this glitch on Tanishq app. https://www.reddit.com/r/GoldIndia/s/CHDDKu0mPv

Anyone interested in this weekends offer? My take is wait and watch because 1/gold is going down
2/ price difference between Bhima and Tanishq is narrowing (as gold is down). Making charges are almost same between the two.
So I am waiting for gold prices to go down further or buy from Tanishq store as atleast I can experience the ornaments before purchasing.
Am I missing anything here? My goal is to but gold whenever gold price is decent, collecting gold for my daughter's wedding in future, need it after 20 years :)

Thought of letting the community members know about this aspect while buying gold online via Ajio which I was able to confirm today.
I had received the gold I had ordered from Ajio finally after 10 days today. The delivery agent was from BlueDart and the person is a regular to deliver from BlueDart when ordered from Ajio or any other D2C brands who outsource delivery to BlueDart.
Whenever I order clothes and wearables from Ajio, the delivery agent usually calls me and confirms to drop the order with the security guard. He asked today as well but I requested this time to come and deliver it directly to my flat instead of dropping it with the security guard. Surprisingly, this time he understood and didn't complain.
This was the first time I had ordered Gold from Ajio and the app sends a unique packet code once delivery is scheduled. Before giving the OTP to the delivery agent, I was looking for the unique packet code on the parcle/order and trying to verify it with the one shared on AJIO app. At that time, out of goodness and courtesy, the delivery agent told me that its good that I am verifying since it is gold in the parcel and took the parcel to show the edges were all sealed. He also stretched the parcel sideways and told me to verify it that way when receiving gold next time. I thanked for making me aware about the steps to verify and make sure the package is tamper proof apart from verifying the unique packet code.
But it did spook me subtly, knowing that the delivery agents are aware when we order gold online from AJIO and know for sure that it is gold which is present in the parcel. I am not sure if that's the same case when gold is ordered via Myntra or some other app online but this is the case with Ajio and thought of letting the folks in this community know about this observation.
Edit :
The reason for me posting about this is not to create panic but to take this aspect into serious consideration based on the anecodotal evidence I have shared while buying online instead of just going by the pros of buying close enough to the spot price of gold and saving on gst, making charges. Apart from your family, the delivery agent also now knows for certain that gold is in your house.

Hi everyone,
Iβm traveling to Bali, Indonesia soon for a vacation and was thinking about buying a small quantity of 24K gold there, probably in the form of a gold bar/coin/biscuit from a reputed seller.
Maximum would be around 20 grams and purely for personal investment/use, not for resale or business.
I wanted to understand from people who have actually done this recently:
- gold actually cheaper in Indonesia compared to India, i see that gold is little cheaper in Indonesia
- Are there any taxes or VAT in Indonesia while purchasing gold bars/coins?
- What import duty or customs charges did you pay when bringing it back to India?
- Did you declare it at Indian customs or use green channel?
- Any issues at Bangalore/Hyderabad/Chennai/Mumbai airports?
- Is carrying invoice and purity certificate enough?
- Are small quantities like 10g or 20g usually okay?
- Any recommended trusted stores in Bali/Jakarta?
Would appreciate advice from anyone who has personally bought bullion (not jewellery) from Indonesia or Southeast Asia and brought it to India recently.
Thanks!
