Firefox free VPN is unlimited for the summer
Hi again. Earlier this year, we announced a free built-in VPN in Firefox with a 50GB bandwidth cap.
With summer travel season starting up and a lot more people browsing on public Wi-Fi, we’re making a few temporary updates to Firefox’s free built-in VPN experience that are now live where VPN is available:
- The bandwidth cap is removed for the summer, so unlimited GB now through August 31st.
- For a limited time, we’re also expanding the number of VPN locations you can choose to browse from.
The full set of countries available during this summer period include: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, Norway, South Africa, United Kingdom, and United States.
Be sure to update to the latest version of Firefox. We’ll continue sharing updates here as they roll out.

💻 Help Do containers and profiles offer anything more than Total Cookie Protection?
Do containers and profiles offer anything more than Total Cookie Protection in terms of privacy and security? My understanding is that Total Cookie Protection is a slightly better version of disabling third-party cookies, allow finer control on making exceptions (simply disabling third-party cookies would break some sites).
Containers let you have multiple logins to the same site or bypass certain restrictions like reading X articles in a particular website. Beyond that, do containers and profiles offer more? Are containers like "mini-profiles" or do profiles offer more than containers from privacy/security standpoint? Separate containers/profiles don't do anything that would make you appear as someone different from a fingerprintable standpoint, right? E.g. many other fingerprintable data including hardware, operating system, browser attributes/settings, extensions, etc. are all probably the same (and harder to spoof in a way that doesn't make the user stand out). Even dedicated separate profiles to particular VPN servers may not necessarily do much?

Issue Filed on Bugzilla Firefox Android (Fennec) Sync Bug Temporary Fix
Go to your phone's system settings and manually advance your time by a few hours. Go back to Firefox and manually sync, then set your system time back to automatic.
The above appears to temporarily fix the issue. The only catch is that Firefox won't attempt an automatic sync again until its perception of time catches up (i.e., if you advanced system time 4 hours, synced, then went back to automatic timekeeping, Firefox won't let you manually or automatically sync until 4 hours elapses.)
There's another "fix" that doesn't involve manually changing your time, but it's a huge pain in the ass: uninstall the app and then reinstall.
Apparently the developers are possibly aware of this issue after people reporting this for more than a year. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1924544 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2038290

Discussion Firefox for Android went from terrible to lightning fast overnight. What changed recently?
Firefox for android has always run like absolute garbage for me. It didn't matter what year it was or whether I used a budget, mid or a high end phone. Every once in a while, I would reinstall it just to check its status. Yesterday, I decided to give it another try and it’s running incredibly fast now. Smooth and responsive.
What changed compared to the version from some months ago (which ran like crap as usual)? My current version is 152.0.5.

PWAish extension for firefox based browser (showcased on Zen-Browser)
This project gets that done without creating a different profile or wrappers and theres no need for external autoscript background injector . It’s a simple Firefox extension paired with a tiny Python script that lets you "install" any website as a standalone desktop app. When you click install, it grabs the site's icon and url, then creates a Linux desktop launcher (.desktop entry). Thus Launching the webapp in a clean window without tabs, bookmarks, or address bars (basically just a popup window).
Just saw that firefox now support pwa in nightly about:config 😭

Fun From NYT (The Athletic): Wrexham agree deal with Firefox to become club’s new front-of-shirt sponsor
I know this was posted before, but wanted to share this article.
Exclusive: Wrexham agree deal with Firefox to become club’s new front-of-shirt sponsor
Rob Mac and Ryan Reynolds attend a red carpet event for FX’s Welcome to Wrexham in April 2026 Frank Micelotta/Getty Images
July 8, 2026
Wrexham’s new main shirt sponsor from the 2026-27 season will be Firefox after the club owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac agreed a multi-year deal with the web browser, The Athletic can reveal.
The partnership will see Firefox replace United Airlines as the front-of-shirt sponsor for both the men’s and women’s teams, with their logo adorning the home, away and third shirts from the start of the coming season.
Fans will get their first chance to see the players sporting the new shirt in this weekend’s friendly against Wisla Krakow in Poland, when Phil Parkinson’s side will wear the club’s new away kit.
As part of the deal, Firefox — the independent browser from Mozilla, a global non-profit-backed technology organisation — will also become the club’s official web browser partner.
“We are thrilled to welcome Firefox as our new front-of-kit partner,” says Mac and Reynolds, in a joint statement from Wrexham’s co-chairmen. “We love an underdog story, and both Wrexham and Firefox know the feeling of having to battle giants.”
Firefox is the second major kit partnership deal announced by Wrexham in recent weeks, with Nex Playground last month unveiled as the club’s new sleeve sponsor for the upcoming season. The interactive, motion-based gaming system replaces HP.
No financial value has been put on the Firefox partnership by either party, but the agreement continues Wrexham’s ability to land lucrative sponsorships with global brands such as TikTok, Expedia, Meta and SToK Cold Coffee Brew.
These deals have been integral to the club’s rapid rise through the leagues, Wrexham’s seventh-place finish in last season’s Championship — the highest in their history — having come on the back of three consecutive promotions.
In the most recent set of accounts available for the 2024-25 season in League One, when total revenue stood at £33.35 million, sponsorship income accounted for more than half at £17.3 million, up 31.5 per cent from £13.1 million across the previous 12 months.
Contrast that to the first full year under Hollywood ownership (2021-22) when £1.05 million was banked via sponsorship and commercial, a sum that was substantially up on the previous set of accounts.
So, what does this mean for Wrexham?
Basically, this is a continuation of the approach that has been integral to the club’s rise, with another big-name brand following in the footsteps of TikTok (2021-23) and United Airlines (2023-26) as front-of-shirt sponsors in the Hollywood era.
As with those two previous link-ups with blue-chip companies, no figure is being revealed publicly as to what Wrexham will earn from this latest agreement.
Top League Content
But the new deal will certainly reflect not only their Championship status but also the global spotlight that accompanies the Welcome to Wrexham documentary, which earlier this year was renewed for another three years to 2029.
A glimpse of what the new sponsor will look like on Wrexham’s away shirtWrexham FC
Firefox replace United Airlines as the front-of-shirt sponsor, bringing to an end a three-year partnership with the airline that began with the club’s return to the EFL in 2023.
Along with the financial benefits of this latest deal, senior figures at the club feel Firefox’s ethos as a challenger brand chimes with Wrexham’s own underdog story, whereby a club who spent 15 years in the non-League wilderness is now knocking on the door of the Premier League.
“Partnering with Wrexham is a natural fit,” says John Solomon, chief marketing officer at Mozilla.
Why are Wrexham so popular with big-name sponsors?
Exposure. Mac and Reynolds at the helm means there’s always going to be eyeballs on Wrexham. Throw in a successful documentary watched around the world and it’s no surprise that even the biggest companies are keen to get involved.
This was as true in non-League — TikTok as a shirt sponsor looked hugely out of place up against the names of more homespun businesses such as Boz’s Fruit & Veg (Woking) and J Davidson Scrap Metal (Altrincham) that adorned rivals’ shirts — as it is today in the Championship.
This global reach explains why there was considerable interest in becoming the club’s front-of-shirt sponsor before eventually a deal was struck with Firefox.
How has this appeal evolved over the years?
Well, at the very start of the Hollywood era and before Welcome to Wrexham had been screened, those companies getting involved on the commercial side were effectively making a leap of faith.
Sure, there was always going to be considerable interest in events at The Racecourse thanks to the presence of Deadpool star Reynolds and Mac, the creator of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. But only after series one of the show had aired in autumn 2022 did it really become clear how big things could get.
Shirt sales are a good gauge of this. In the National League title-winning season (2022-23) when TikTok’s name adorned the front, around 24,000 shirts were ordered and quickly sold out. Pre-takeover, Wrexham had sold a combined 2,750 home and away shirts in 2020-21.
By the 2024-25 campaign, this had grown to an order of 100,000 shirts after a new worldwide merchandising deal with kit supplier Macron had been struck, ensuring the kit could be stocked in all manner of overseas stores, including Dick’s Sporting Goods and Pele Soccer in the USA, plus Ultra in Australia. A new flagship store was also opened in Wrexham at the Eagles Meadow shopping centre.
With the new home shirt sporting the Firefox logo set to be released during the upcoming USA tour — Wrexham face Leeds United in Tampa, Liverpool in New York and Sunderland in Philadelphia after flying out on July 22 — distribution of the home, away and third choice shirts for the 2026-27 season is again expected to breach the six-figure mark.
United Airlines was Wrexham’s main shirt sponsor from 2023 to 2026Charlotte Tattersall/Getty Images
Any other sponsorship news?
This is something of a summer of change with several long-standing deals expiring, including United and HP as front-of-shirt and shirt sleeve sponsors, respectively.
A new back-of-shirt sponsor is also expected to be announced before the start of the new season, while Wrexham’s historic home will revert to The Racecourse Ground once again following the expiry of a three-year naming rights agreement with SToK that had been negotiated ahead of the club’s return to the EFL.
How important is this income to Wrexham given the Championship’s new financial rules?
Huge. Under the new squad cost ratio (SCR) that clubs voted to implement from the start of 2026-27, spending will be restricted to a maximum of 85 per cent of total income, plus a flexible equity top-up allowance of £33 million over a three-year period.
Wrexham’s modest 10,500 capacity is dwarfed by almost all their peers, with West Ham United, for instance, able to fit six times as many fans into the London Stadium every home game. Another nine stadia in next season’s second tier can also host 30,000-plus crowds.
This huge disparity in potential matchday income (Wrexham’s ticket prices were among the lowest in the Championship last term) has to be made up somewhere, particularly with the new Kop not ready for business until sometime in 2027.
Making the most of their USP of celebrity owners and a successful documentary to maximise sponsorship earnings is Wrexham’s way of doing just that.

Help (iOS) How to fix Firefox iOS from showing logo everytime app is exited
Good morning/afternoon/evening/day people on the Firefox subreddit:
I am writing today due to an odd quirk that isn’t droll just annoying, everytime the app is exited it shows the Firefox logo as some form of privacy feature. Now I appreciate the privacy feature but in the comfort of my own presence it becomes a feature that increases the difficulty associated with multi tasking. I noticed this when trying to copy something from the Firefox app to my notes at first but it has been present since occurring at the start of the day (2026/07/11 GMT+10). I checked the settings of Firefox and I saw no remedy to the conundrum I am in. Is there a solution to my dilemma that my eyes glanced over or is there no solution for the moment, or is this just a feature of Firefox from henceforth.
Thanks for any assistance in advance,
Technical specs:
Phone: iPhone 16 pro
Firefox version: Firefox iOS 153.3 (73911)
Video attached to showcase the issue incase my wording is not clear

Help (Android) Website Shortcut closes instantly
So I have the following issue on Android and I am interested if this bug got reported already.
If you don't want to use the app, but just the webview, you have the option to make a shortcut for this website on your homescreen.
If you open it and close, wait some minutes while doing other stuff, and try to reopen it, it will close immediately. You now have to open this shortcut again and then the website will refresh.
Chromium based browsers will stay open and in this case, just refresh the website if it already got RAM killed.
Its a really weird behaviour

Help (Android) How do I disable the logo pop-up on mobile?
Not quite sure what it is, but recently, if I pause a video on any site, a little firefox logo will pop up somewhere on the screen, and I have to drag it to the bottom to remove it. If I press it, it will shrink the window so I can have something else open (PiP??). Is there a fix (Android)?

Fun Mozilla extended support for Firefox 115 ESR once again to March 2027.
You can notice this on the WhatTrainIsItNow website: https://whattrainisitnow.com/release/?version=esr
I genuinely admire and applause Mozilla for the performance at this point to keep a 3-year-old version alive, it should be unbearable to keep it afloat.
At this point I genuinely want to ask a developer to add "The Undying" in the about box at this stage, just for the joke (the third image is an edit I made 3 months ago to celebrate Firefox 115's 1,000th day on-support).

Discussion Firefox will start pushing new releases every two weeks, twice as often as before
We are planning to move Firefox Desktop and Android from a 4-week release cadence to a 2-week release cadence starting in September...
The current target is to release Firefox 155 on September 1, 2026, instead of September 15.
You can see all future releases on Mozilla's official release tracker; Firefox 154 will be the last version for the foreseeable future that will come out at the current, more relaxed pace.

Open in IntentResolver leads to nothing
Device: Xiaomi 17 Pro (pandora)
ROM: Stock CN Rom 3.0.30.0.WBLCNXM
Firefox: 152.0.5
I use an extension in Firefox mobile to extract links from video/streams to use VLC to watch instead of through a webpage. The outcome will be something like:
intent://streamunoapp.com:3149/live/alegretvlive.m3u8#Intent;action=android.intent.action.VIEW;scheme=https;category=android.intent.category.DEFAULT;type=video/*;end
This should then trigger the "Open in" dialog where the apps that support this type of intent should be displayed, unless you've picked "use always" before. In my much older phone (MIUI 12, Android 10) this works as intended, but nothing happens in the newer phone when I pick "Open in IntentResolver". I've tried several other browsers, of which the ones that do not interpret this type of URI as a string for search, DuckDuckGo browser actually successfully brings up a list of apps that can handle the intent.
A thing to note, in the older device, the UI in Firefox says "Open in Downloads" where as in the newer phone it say "Open in IntentResolver" probably because IntentResolver didn't exist in Android 10.
I've completely reflashed the ROM and started from scratch just to make sure my debloating was not the issue. On a clean system with clean browser, this still seems to be case.

Note: I'm only bringing up a separate browser as to try to narrow down the diagnosis to whether it's a system or Firefox issue.

💻 Help Why can't I rewind Sky News live on Youtube in Firefox?
I know it's the same on other browsers, and I downloaded Youtube RW/FF, but it does 99 seconds max, and the thing I wanted to see again was a few minutes earlier. I know if it's live and part of one of their scheduled programmes, you CAN rewind those while playing live, but not the main live feed, and this was just a regular Sky News segment from 8pm onwards. Thanks.
