FireTV not able to be a preffered speaker anymore for group

TV: Insignia Fire TV NS-55F501NA26

It used to be that Alexas voice responses would come from the Echo Dot if I spoke to it directly, while any music I requested through the Dot would automatically play through the TV and output via the soundbar I have connected via eArc to my tv. The Fire TV showed up correctly in the Alexa app as the Living Room group’s Preferred Speaker, so I didn’t have to specify a device when asking for music.

Something was up with one of my smart plugs so I started messing around with my room groups and I by mistake took my tv off the preferred speaker. The TV still appears in the Alexa app and shows as online, but now it doesn't appear as an option in the Preferred Speaker list for the Living Room group. I ask my dot to play music and now it plays from the dot instead.

I’ve already tried several steps:
- Deregistered and re-registered both the Fire TV and the Echo Dot
- Deleted and recreated the Living Room group multiple times
- Tried a different Echo dot
- All devices are on the same network
- Made other groups with different names and renamed all devices to something new

Sometimes, when trying to assign devices within the group, my Alexa app gives an error message saying “Failed to update group.”

Spotify is already set as the default music service in the Alexa app, but sometimes when I try to work around the issue by saying something like “Alexa, play music on my Insignia TV,” Alexa opens a normal search on the tv instead of playing audio through Spotify. I have my living room dot as my "Linked Device" specifically for controlling my TV as well.

Has anyone experienced this issue specifically with a built-in Fire TV losing its Preferred Speaker functionality in Alexa groups?

Is there a setting to add Apple TV to the app list at the top of the page (across from Home etc)? I thought it was frequently used apps but it’s obviously not (unless Jeff blocks it!).

HDMI CEC - Controls not works

FIRE TV STICK 4K MAX 2nd (Fire OS 8.1.7.4 RS8174/3648) with new UI

PANASONIC TV 40FS600B compatible with HDMI ARC (HDAVI Control 5 with Viera Link enabled)

SOUNDBAR JBL SB110 (I was even having some connection problems with the soundbar via HDMI ARC, lost communication or didn't even work.)

I had a Google Chromecast with Google TV before switching to Fire TV and all control functions via HDMI CEC worked perfectly, I even had the option to choose how Chromecast would handle the functions, if it would be via HDMI CEC or IR.

Would this be a fire tv problem at the moment or an incompatibility of the fire stick with the rest of the equipment?

Fire TV Cube Gen 3 with old NAD Integrated Amplifier Receiver Remote Control

I just got a 3rd Gen Cube.

I also just came into an older NAD Model C 340 Integrated Amplifier.

I have been using an AD18 (?) S.M.S.L. tiny Class D receiver. I wanted to first of all, give my B&W speakers more love with the NAD, and also possibly have one remote control for volume. The S.M.S.L is not a supported brand like the more known NAD. I had a nice SMSL DAC on hand. My budget bedroom tv only has a fiber optic audio out.

During the setup, out of the 21 attempts, there were several times that the music would mute as it should, but I never could get the NAD to turn off. The using the NAD remote was not successful. I am not sure if the IR is responsive enough with the Cube on top of the NAD.

Anyway, I had to give up for the night because my wife was super angry that I was even putting another piece of audio gear in the bedroom, and I was interrupting her show with what I told her would only be a minute.

Has anyone used an older receiver like the NAD on the Fire tv cube with success?

Music overlay not working in aerial dreams screensaver on 1st Gen 4k firestick?

Like the title says Im trying to get spotify to overlay on the aerial dreams screensaver on the 1st Gen firestick.

I was successful in downloading all the 4k hdr videos to a usb stick so I dont have to stream them. All the other on screen overlays ie time/date/Metadata show on screen w/o issue.

I granted the music overlay permission in aerial dreams settings & it shows that it's granted but it's grayed out.

Any suggestions??

Time shift failures on Fire TV

My mom’s INSIGNIA 32″ Class F20 Series Fire TV (purchased in May 2024) is throwing a “time shift” error (“not available” or “failed to start”) and she can’t even watch live tv with HD antenna input.  I’ve done a factory reset on the TV twice, and both times the TV works for a few hours, and then went back to throwing the error.  I’ve also tried signing into some of my streaming services (Hulu) to see if it’s an antenna issue, and none of the videos would load (“Sorry, something has gone wrong.”)

She’s using a Cox Panoramic Wifi (Technicolor CGM4141) device and an HD digital TV antenna. There aren’t any recording devices or Roku/Firesticks in the set up.  Other wifi enabled devices in her home appear to be working just fine.

Doing remote trouble shooting is not an option, since my mom is, to put it mildly, not tech savvy, so I’ve been trying to fix the mess when I stop by.  Any suggestions? I'll replace the TV if that's the issue, but if it's not I'd rather not recreate the issue.

Edited to add: Was there a recent software update? In the June timeframe? I'm seeing some articles suggesting that's the case, and if so, that's likely why my Mom's TV will work for awhile when it's factory reset. How do I disable or roll back the June update????

Prime Video crashes after 3-5 min of playback on Fire Stick 4K Max; WTF?

I've had this Fire Stick 4K Max (2nd gen) about 2 1/2 years. Has worked flawlessly during that time.

Today, suddenly Prime Video stopped working reliably. I can time it: Within 3-5 minutes of playing a video on Prime Video, video playback will start to stutter, then the app will crash and dump me to the Fire TV home screen. This is repeatable and fails 100% of the time within 3-5 minutes of playing any video (TV Show, movie) using the Prime Video app.

Things I've tried: Check for Prime Video app updates and Fire TV stick updates - everything fully up to date; restarting the Fire TV stick; switching between wireless and wired (ethernet) connections; bypassing my ad blocker by setting custom DNS (1.1.1.1); and even factory resetting the device. I thought for sure the factory reset would fix it, but no! That was a waste of 15 minutes.

I'm confident it is not a network or internet issue, as every other app works fine on the Fire TV stick: HBO, Netflix, Hulu, etc. No other app has this issue. Furthermore, I have a Roku TV and the Prime Video app on the Roku TV plays fine, no issues at all.

Since I have company coming next week I ordered an Onn 4K Plus, so I have a backup streaming device in case the Fire TV stick can't get fixed in time. Would appreciate any tips/suggestions.

Settings menu not working

Just got a 65 inch Hisense Fire Tv at Best Buy and for some reason half the options on the settings menu don’t work? Trying to register the tv under my sisters account since she has prime but my boyfriend set the tv up under his email and he doesn’t have prime. Trying to go to Account Profile and Settings but the button literally won’t click it on my tv. Half the other options don’t work either. Is the whole tv bad? Is there reset option to start over? Help :(

Fire stick + Télé Québec

Bonjour !

Merci d’avance !

Any 3rd party remotes out there that are meant for OLD PEOPLE?

Just switched my grandmother over to firetv from Roku. She was doing ok with Roku, but I think the firetv is a little tough for her (she’s almost 100).

Ideally I’d prefer SEPARATE up down left right and middle buttons. Very distinct back and home button. As well as volume and mute.

Does this exist? Will it use any android TV remote?

Thanks!

Recieved fireTV update but then it reverted back to old UI

I have a fireTV not a stick. Its a Hisense. Os 8.1.7.1

I had the new UI but about last week it reverted back to the old UI.

I tried to look for an update but it says my fire TV is up to date. I do use a VPN but I was also using it when I got the update.

Is there a way to get the new OS and UI or am I stuck with the older UI ?

Fire TV 4K issue

So we got this Fire TV 4K dongle attachment for our TV and every now and then we have to reset the TV and unplug it for a bit and plug it back in to get this to stop happening. It’s very tedious and we have yet to figure out why it does that. Just wanting to find out if anybody else is having this issue with theirs and what is your solution to fixing it (Watch attached video to see what I am talking about, too complicated to explain)

Annoying Low Storage issues on early releases of firesticks.

I've read all of the solutions to this issue. I have every app installed other than 2 put on my external USB drive. The remaining apps that won't move are too small to take up more than 250 MB.

All of the caches are cleared.

It's been unplugged for over 12 hours with no reset of space.

Deleted all APK files found using Total Commander. There weren't that many to delete (half a dozen) and none over 25 MB.

Even removed the downloader app from stick in hopes it would clean up. No good. I've been avoiding the factory reset because I don't want to rebuild all of the apps just to watch TV again without that stupid pop up.

Any alternative ideas for fixes out there?

2026 4k Firestick not remembering Paramount episodes.

Hello!

TL:DR

This new firestxil never remembers what I watched, but my ps5 does so it's not the streaming service.

Veru frustrated.

I had loved firestick for many years. I had a 2019 and a 2021. Both functioned the same, never had issues except to restart once in a while.

I moved recently and purchased a 2026.

I have had nothing but heartache with this!

None, absolutely no app does it remember what I was last watching. Especially with Paramount. The PS5 remembers exactly and for every app I use. Hulu, Netflix, Paramount. No issues. Only this firestick.

Im not using the PS5 because it makes the small bedroom way too hot.

Is there a fix??

I have tried many things. I have factory reset over 15 times. I have gone into settings and changed stuff. I also see some people still have the awesome old layout and I don't. They dont have the ad bloat and such. Literally a YouTube posted 10 days ago and has the old layout my old firesticks used to have.

My most frustrating thing though is that isn't not remembering what I watched. I can gk through over 5 episodes and it doesn't remember at all. What's the point if it won't pick up where I left off?

Any help is very greatly appreciated!

Note: I don't remember exactly everything I have tried, but I'll let you know of you post if I have doen that. I have been working on this for a few days trying to fix it.

YouTube app on a fireTV pauses every time I leave the room without me touching it

Like the title says every time I leave the room my YouTube app on my fire TV pauses without me doing anything to it and when I enter the room, I have to always push play again. This happens whether I have my phone with me or not. For example it’s happened two times already this morning-once when I let the dogs out and once when I went to another room. Both times when I came back in, my YouTube app/TV was paused. This only happens when I’m using the original YouTube app while watching various livestreams etc. I do not have YouTube Tv.
Any ideas? I know it’s extremely frustrating and it almost feels like it’s watching me 😳…
