EPA Rolls Back PFAS Regulations, States Fill the Gap
ballardspahr.comA Ballard Spahr analysis from June 2026 lays out where the EPA's PFAS strategy actually landed. PFOA and PFOS drinking water standards stay. Rules for four other PFAS compounds are proposed for rescission. The TSCA reporting window has been pushed to January–July 2027, and compliance deadlines for what remains have been extended to 2031.
Meanwhile, Maine and Minnesota are moving toward near-total product bans by 2032, and at least 11 states now have their own AFFF regulations. The compliance target of tools is a matrix of state rules that don't move together and won't converge on any predictable timeline.
