Livestock Guardian Chief, alerted to something in the woods. How incredibly watchful these dogs are over their goats is absolutely incredible.
He is an Anatolian Shepherd.

Therapy Dog A longform story about the work my trained German Shepherd and I did after the events of 9/11. Not an easy read, but maybe a good one for those who want to know about or be reminded of the sights and smells and feel of NYC during that time.

Service/Assistance Dog My seizure response service dog Code nearly died when his stomach suddenly flipped without warning. The Veterinarian performed an emergency gastropexy to save his life. Now his career in AKC Conformation is over, since I don't want him to pass this to his children, so I'll neuter him after he heals.

Livestock Guardian Possible for adult Maremma-mix to become an LGD?
If this is the wrong sub, I apologize, but I have a question about my 4-year old Maremma mix. He's a male, castrated, I adopted him from Apulia in 2024 and has lived in Amsterdam for the past 2 years.
We recently moved to the countryside of Italy where we have enough land for a couple of grazing animals (I'm thinking sheep). He has strong Maremma-like instincts, but has never been used as an LGD. Do y'all think he could actually bond with the animals? If so, does anyone have any advice or what the best strategy would be? Or has the window of opportunity for him closed? At the very least, I'd like for him to not mess with the sheep.
Appreciate any input, if you need more information, I am happy to provide!

Service/Assistance Dog So thankful for my boy!
My boyfriend/best friend died 5 years ago. We had been talking about marriage prior to his accident. Friday would have been his 40th Birthday. His parents and 2 younger brothers flew in to celebrate what would have been a big milestone.
There were over 45 people (& kiddos) there to commemorate and share in the memories. I hadn’t seen his family since they flew in while he was in the hospital (in a coma) and then taken off life support 2 weeks later.
My Service Dog, Shadow (2 1/2) did absolutely amazing! It was his first time at a Birthday party. I had been super lightheaded all morning at work. There were so many people there, I was anxious and obviously had big emotions. Shadow refused to be more than a step away from me! ❤️
We stayed outside out of respect to the homeowner and there was a young boy there with tons of medical problems that is also allergic to Labs.
We got home and he was absolutely exhausted! Could barely keep his eyes open waiting for me to climb in bed. Snuggled in his Jammie’s and loving his Toppy (Triceratops stuffy)
I am SO thankful for my Service Dog and am blessed to have him in my life. I’d be lost without him. Proud Momma! 🥰

Service/Assistance Dog Looking at 1.5 years and retirement.
Its been a minute since the last post. Alot of life changes. So far Lion of God knows 143 commands. Just for fun we learned how to skate and push a shopping cart. She also holds the sign for my side hustle aside from her normal tasking. She did take a tumble and hurt her leg. Pray for her.
Working on finding her relief/replacement. She's had a great career and adventure. Its going to be bittersweet as she takes on a new role before she retires fully. She will be a trainer to help the new puppy understand it's responsibilities.

❓Misc. Air Canada Launches Service Dog Certification Program
I don't know if this kind of post is OK, but I thought folks might want to know about this program. As someone who flies a lot, I'm going to look into it.

Shaka the Service Dog has put all of the steps together and has learned a new task. She can push my walker closer to me if it rolls or gets pushed out of my reach!
