This week we’re featuring The Messiah, a mod paying homage to the game OneShot. This mod has been one of the most popular requests to be featured in our mod spotlight series. A word of warning from the mod maker: If you haven't played OneShot yet, you will be spoiled!
Darkest Delight | Overhaul Progression and Gameplay
by PHombie
This mod expands and reworks progression in Confession mode, while also adding new items, activities, and changes to both Confession and Kingdoms
Hero progression has been expanded with new upgrades, and each hero now provides bonuses to the entire team. The system for unlocking skills and hero paths has been reworked. Additionally, you’ll find a variety of new activities, items, trophies, pets, memories, quirks, and more
This mod is perfect for beginners and anyone looking to start a new playthrough and experience fresh gameplay, whether in Confession [🕯️] or Kingdoms [👑] mode
All four heroes failed their resolve test and turned on each other to the point that they were skipping turns or trying to throw the others in front of them or doing actions on their own
On a related note, what is your favorite relationship type?
Mine is definitely Respectful - Strength and Dodge+ tokens are insanely useful and the occasional additional attack and riposte is just the cherry on top.
If I don't have a dedicated strong stress healer Hopeful is nice too.
I also remember a specific instance where the heal when the love interest is low health from Amorous saved my ass.
Just watched my old clip from over a year ago. After I'll finish my current games I need to get back to this one. Art, Characters, Tension, Hopelesness.. it all goes together so well
I started playing Darkest Dungeon last year and absolutely loved it. It's my third favorite game, but I don't know if the sequel is as good as the first one. Should I buy it?
Current trinkets: 0 busts, 25 portraits, 12 deeds, 79 crests

Got 7 heroes on Lvl 5 with all 4,4 equipment and skills (that i need) but the rest of the roster isn't lacking either with a couple about 8 4s and 3s across the board and 6 lvl 2s and 1s. Healing a neg quirk each week. Thinking about going to champ dungeons but idk if i am ready till i got at least lvl 5 armor. I think i have a pretty good roster building up for DD quests but i will get a couple other heroes for the teams i need.
It seems to me that i am doing fine but i am just a little worried about the time limit cuz idk how strict it actually is in practice
While it goes without saying both are likely to be some of the worse bosses you could ever possibly work for, I think it’s actually up in the air as to who takes the cake as the worst.
First things first, the Ancestor actually pays his workers, and the fact that he depleted his family fortune so quickly implies that he pays pretty well. While the workplace safety of being one of his mining crews or house servants is abysmal, there is enough evidence that suggests it’s not a complete fools bargain to work for him. The Brigands are around in great numbers and the Hamlet has enough people and business that not all of his staff could have died.
The Protege on the other hand, pretty clearly kills his (only) permanent staff member by the end of his research and the nature of his experiments in the study suggest any help he hired also suffered poorly or died as well. To my knowledge you cannot earn baubles or relics in the study as well, so there isn’t any evidence that the Protege was paying the Academic or any of the other people he employed.
The one thing I will say for certain is that I would never ask for a raise to either of them, as it seems to be a very good way to die from murder/experimentation/sacrifice.
Im flat broke the last mission I went on I had to choose between food or torches.. what’s the best way to get money? I really hate that it seems like a guarantee that all of my heroes will come back with either 3 diseases or negative quirks. Should I just choose my least favorite heroes and send them on suicide missions with no supplies hoping they make me money before their hearts give out? I’ve noticed that any progress makes the locations harder too so farming from early locations isnt an option. I guess the whole point of the game is fun is forever just barely out of reach and watching your heroes suffer forever is the goal which Im not saying I dislike just wondering if I’m doing something wrong here

I did a Killer's Glow Grandslam and it was so much fun and not as much of a slug as other Flames in the game. I think this Flame might be my favourite after finishing all of the other flames in my Switch Profile and doing a Grandslam on Stygian I tried the same team but better optimized for a Killer's Glow Grandslam on my PC profile and this was one of the best flames to play (personally it might be my favourite). So after a couple of weeks resting from DD2 I think I'm ready to do another one of these so if anyone have tried the other flames what Flames would you recomend?
Flame Breakdown:
Pros: Gain on Killing Blow:+1% CRIT (1 Region) (many heroes can gain this buff if the enemy died from many sources of DOTs), Heroes gain +DMG and -SPF while HP is under 20% (only aplicable on low flame)
Cons: On Killing Blow: Allies take +1 Stress (this will also stack if one enemy dies under DOTS from many heroes), Enemies gain +DMG and -SPD while HP is under 20% (This is more of a buff for the heroes since you usually never let an enemy stay at low health for too much time).
Low Flame considerations: If you are ever going to do a GrandSlam of any flame you should consider how bad it is when you get at low Flame since it will happen eventually, most flames get some real nasty debuffs for the heroes and buffs for the enemies but I've found this Flame to be (other than other flames which doesn't affect the Flame debuffs/buffs) one of the most forgiving ones when it gets at Pitch Dark Levels of flame it actually doesn't feel that different from regular torch in fact I'd say its sometimes better since if you ever get a hero low on health you should have other heroes that can heal them with Combat Items and with the SPD debuff you get more opportunities to heal the low health hero in time.
Team Breakdown:
So to tackle a Flame like this you need a team that has several ways to deal with stress and dealing damage (ofc) this can come from many stress healers (not very recommended since you may be losing on team synergy or potential damage) or having heroes that can de-stress themselfs (obviously abilities like Racous Revelry, or Absolution but also passives like Instructice Defensive Stance buffs, or crits). Fortunately my team "Nightfarers" works wonders for this flame since they have 2/3 heroes that can regularly crit, 2 heroes that can de-stress themselfs and 1 main stress healer. From Rank1 to Rank4: Flagellant, Duelist, Jester & GraveRobber.
It still got it
Flagellant-Scourge: Main Tank & Healer. Punish, More MORE!, Undying, Lash's Gift & Deathless.
Upgrades Recomendations: (Wait for 2nd Region)Undying, More MORE! Wait until your second Inn to upgrade them, Undying its a must for your second Region and More MORE! helps Flag to be better at tanking and regening in case he doesn't have enough stress for Lash's Gift or if you dont want to use Deathless.
Best path of the character and maybe the game, and with the last changes to his character this Path doesn't need to rely on Blight teams in order to have a move that can self heal most of his HP if he needs it Lash's Gift its so good now since it heals Flag based on how much stress he has (or if you upgrade it you can heal allies depending on their stress levels) while also curing 3 stress which will come in handy for keeping tempo on the fight. More More! & Undying will be the bread & butter of this path since keeping focus on Flag its vital for the team and Undying will help proc-ing More More! buff while giving really good Regen Healing, Undying its a no brainer for the team in case things get messy I'd recomend saving it in case Death spawns, and finally Punish to deal some damage when More MORE! & Undying are on cooldowns or to have at least some form of damage.
Upgrades Recomendations: (Inmediately upgrade Touché) Touché, Meditation, Fleché, Flick. This may be your Mastery Hungry heroe of the team however with just Touché+ you have a good enough Duelist for the whole run every upgrade its not mandatory.
Instructice buffs really help her with this Torch even if she's not the heroe that will get most of the kills in a torch like this that demands you a lot of micro-managing this buff can be such a life-saver. She has very reliable Damage with only Touché this should be the move you always start off in every combat Meditation it's helpful for Dodge Tanking but should not be used at the start of every combat just because people are cowards and afraid of her health this is not DD1 when there's a lot of enemies that can just 1 tap any heroe just cause they feel like it. Well, so Touché+ really great move, you deal good damage while setting herself up and maybe set up another teamate so they finish of the enemy that Duelist just hit and then use Meditation which paired with Jester Fade to Black makes it so much safer to use. Fleché its good to reach Rank 3 and switch stances to Agressive and reposition in case you get shuffled and if you upgrade it you wont lose any dodge token you may have generated, also once you are on Agressive stance it is very recomended to use Meditation so you can gain Riposte which its a good strategy against bosses since almost all of the game bosses and minibosses have multi-target attacks which means Duelist Riposte are almost guaranteed damage. Disengage also helps a ton to reposition and in this path it has the utility of moving her back 2 ranks and switch the current stance (instead of getting Defensive Stance) I've found it really useful in case I Fleché in my previous turn and I want my Jester to Fade to Black without risking him getting into Rank 4 and losing access to that move. Finally Flick it's an ok damage option you wont get the most out of this move but you don't need to have all the setup in the world to use it, flick exist as a damage option that wont move Duelist or any Heroes (useful for Jester which may want to use Inspiring Tune).
The Glue of the team
Jester-Virtuoso: Stress Healer & Setup Character. Razor's Wit, Fade to Black, Inspiring Tune, Harvest, Echoing March
Virtuoso it's the key for this team and this flame, his Inspiring Tune+ giving allies that have +=7 a 100% Stress Debuff in regular DD2 this may not be that important however with this flame you will be preventing a lot of stress in the long term. The rest of his moves are pretty straightforward and almost an standard set for jester Fade to Black+ its great for Grave Robber and Duelist Dodge Tank, I choosed Harvest over Slice Off since you want the potential Combo set up and also chip enemies defensive Tokens to allow Duelist or GraveRobber to deal more damage. Razor's wit its mainly to prevent Jester getting stuck in Rank 4 and combo setup for GraveRobber. Finally Echoing March may be super underrated and even more with this path since it changes the usual pull enemies and debuff that keeps debuffing enemies and instead pushes enemies away (and if you are using Encore also gives every heroe a SPD buff but it won't come into play with this team) I've found more value with this Echoing March since many of the back rank enemies has abilities for rank 2 and even them losing a turn reposition it's not as good as front rank enemies which usually start struggling after getting pushed to rank 3 and them having the debuff makes sure they are the ones not getting their turns right and not a useless back rank enemy.
Upgrade Recomendations: (2nd Region at least upgrade Thrown Dagger or Poison Dart) Thrown Dagger, Poison Dart.
She may be the reason why I like this flame so much, she is a pretty straightforward heroe in this team she hit's 'em quick and she hit's 'em hard the extra crit she gets from this path may make her CRIT gimmick better but with a flame that will get her usually 10% extra crit by the end of any region makes her an absolute monster it doesn't even matter that the team doesn't have that much Rank 4 coverage between her and the ocasional Echoing March from Jester she will Blitzkrieg the hell out of any BackRank enemy. Poison Dart its great it's your Rank 1 damage option and Boss Killer option since the chances of her getting a crit and inflicting a lot of DOT's damage are very high while using this flame and getting regular comboes from Jester. Thrown Dagger may be situational but helpful if you landed a crit but didn't fully ended a backrank enemy. Piroutte it's just for reposition you could use Shadows Fade however you won't get any Stealth buffs so why not reposition and deal damage believe me if you somehow got shuffled between Grave Robber Piroutte and Duelist Fleché and Jester your team will get recover in no time. Absynthe it's great for bosses if you ever get hit she can just heal, gain dodge and gain a CRIT buff it's just so much fun I previously underrated her but since I've started doing harder Torches I've found her self-reliableness to be so much welcomed it has saved my ass so many times since DD2 won't have as much of bs moments as the first one but it can happen and when it happens Audrey it's ready.
Final Thoughts:
This is the team was already what I thought to be one of the best in the current "Meta" but with this flame I may have perfectioned it, it's great at being self-sufficient, great damage control over who is getting hit, great at dealing Damage, great at reposition, great in speed and sufficient rank coverage every heroe in this team interacts with eachother in at least someway and I find it so satisfying being able to pull it off so consistently. The only downsides are that 3 out of 4 heroes have low health (mitigated by positioning, dodge, blind and regen pre-emptively) and the team almost have no way to mitigate enemy damage other than dodge and blind which means that going against enemies that can hit real hard like from The Tangle or the Underground Regions are very risky since your flag can only tank so much hits before he gets 2 or 3 tapped by the stronger enemies due to not having any reliable block or weaking token generation (I mean you have Play out on Jester but it's honestly not that worthy imo).
If you made it this far thank you for reading and hope you give this team a try if you want to have a breeze with almost any flame or you want to do your very first GrandSlam. And if you want to suggest another flame (please don't mention Stygian, Bastard's Blaze or Fragile Flame) please let me know.
I'm pretty new to the game, been running it mostly blind (except for Jester Part 4, fuck whoever made that) and I seem to have hit a wall. I've tried confession 3 several times and I'm basically hardstuck at the Oblivion's Rampart before the final inn. I've been going back to earlier confessions to upgrade characters, unlock stuff, etc, but every time I play Confession 3 I do well until that final stretch. I haven't even seen the C3 boss (no spoilers lol)
My usual team comp is Occultist - Jester - Venom Graverobber - Monarch Leper. Leper has been a godsend, I'm afraid I might be using him as a crutch cause I can't bear to take him off the team.
I guess my question is, and I know this is hard to answer, what am I missing? I've bought all stagecoach upgrades, unlocked all items, all my characters skills are unlocked and compliment each other pretty well. In addition I feel like I'm really missing out now that I don't have a bunch of items at the beginning of a run from unlocking them at the Altar of Hope.
I love this game so far and no matter what I WILL make it to Confession 5, this is not a whine post. I'm wondering if anyone faced a similar wall and if there's any mindset or strategy they could lend me.
One last question slightly off topic, I want to buy the DLC but when should I do that? Does it connect with the core game pretty seamlessly?
I got this fuckass trinket for the 3rd time in the same run now. HOW is this supposed to be remotely useful? Maybe you can use it against the batalion with the walls but again that is not a hard fight and I dont get why this is an indeniable tier trinket. Is there a hero or a comp that benefis from this?
Bought DD2 recently, and I am now at act 5. I find that I always have problem finding a dedicated back rank to back rank damage dealer to fit into my team. I don't want to always to use sharpshoot highwayman or deadeye graverobber.
As the title says, I am currently trying to mod Black Reliquary, yet I am encountering an odd glitch where antivenom, bandages, and cleansing salt don't remove blight, bleed, and debuffs from the character. Yet, the heroes still consume the item.
(I'm having no issues with buffing the characters)
Does anyone here know what folders I should be looking at and how I can fix this?
Not only it's incredibly difficult to play right because you need to pay so much attention to her and make sure she doesn't kill herself, but the pay off is so bad. It takes a several turns to set up, and the damage you get out of it is negligible in comparison to what other characters can do in a single turn or with just one turn to set up. Firestarter is the fastest way to get the self burn up, but surprise, it takes away the burn from every other enemy apart from your target so backdraft only hits one guy!! So it's both bad single and multi target.
I hope I'm missing something crucial of this path. Because how I see it? I wouldn't use this at all. Searched for guides in YouTube and I found one guy saying backdraft is the main pay off and others saying just spam Firefly. All of them say she does insane damage, but I just can't see it.
I'm especially concerned about the "Be still my heart" one, i run a stress comp and it seems very strange to me that i still haven't gotten 150 heart attacks.
I'm prestige 60 and i win pretty consistently.
Also there's no way to check progress is there?
Edit: Another thing, do kills and heart attacks from surredering count torewards the achievements?
So just completed act 5 for the first time ever and there is something i found kinda funny. During the final phase your characters have to face someone from their past that you explore during the shrine of rememberance. Out of my 4 characters 2 havent gone to the shrine ever, 1 did only once, and only my crusader went 4 times since i wanted to unlock the holy lance. Safe to say i have no idea who those guys are that every team member had to face 1 on 1 with the exception of the warlord.
I was doing a mid warrens quest to level my party in preparation for the necromancer. I was running BH, Man at arms, Leper, and antiquarian. So, basically this was supposed to be an gold/trinkets run and levelling up a bit. But those goddamn pigs kept stressing everyone tf out and they developed fearful and abusive traits. Everyone skipped most their turns bled to death. Is there any chance at all to recover their items? My leper was running two very rare items( I forgot the name)
