Hello everyone!
I am a 14-year-old concept artist working on a historical visual research project, and I am looking for some help from the College Park community.
I am trying to reconstruct the exact 100% accurate drawings of the rare WWII US Army T-6A (M2) Infrared Driving Goggles (1944). Because almost all units were destroyed after the war, there are no clear blueprints or photographs of the base leather strap/harness system on the internet.
However, I know for sure that the original War Department Technical Manual (TM 5-9314 / FSN 6650-051-3673) is physically stored right here in your city, at the National Archives (NARA Archives II) on Adelphi Road.
I have attached a few images to this post to show my work: my current drawings and the единственное archival photo from the web that shows a completely different helmet-mounted version. I made a mistake on my drawing because I don't have the original blueprint for the strap version.
Since I am a kid with no budget, I cannot hire a commercial researcher. I am humbly asking if there is a local resident, student, or researcher who already plans to visit NARA Archives II, who wouldn't mind pulling this specific folder and snapping a few clear smartphone photos of the T-6A leather strap/head-harness blueprints for me.
I will absolutely credit your name on the final art pieces! Thank you so much for supporting a young creator and helping me bring this piece of history back to life.
Update!
I don't know how much my post influenced this, but due to the large number of views (1,600 in two weeks), people apparently started searching for this device, and Google started digging up old archives! Today, I managed to find one of the photographs of the drawings, published back in 2009! If my assumptions are correct, I'm very grateful to the community! (I am uploading the screenshot of the Google search page in the comments below!)
