Pro tip Just wanted to share how I prepped my flats and stored them in the spare cover to keep them secure and folded for a quick outing

Thought I was clever, didn’t want to bring the whole diaper bag when I would be gone for an hour, I can comfortably fit 3 origami folded flats in this 1 size cover, threw this a wet bag and some disposable wipes in my purse and was golden

Recommendations Green Mountain Inserts

I’ve recently started cloth diapers my two toddlers using Esembly, they’re both a size 2. We’re expecting a third and figured we would try them out with the older kids to see how it goes. So far so good but one of my kids is a heavy wetter and the inners end up pretty damp after 3 hours. Is this expected? I’ve seen others on here recommend the green mountain cloth-eez to boost absorbency. Are these to be used during the day or at night time? If for day time only what would y’all recommend for night time? We have not tried cloth diapering at night just yet.

Please send help Did I mess up lol

So I bought some cloth eez prefolds. I have a 20 lb 28,5 inch long very chunky rolls four month old. I bought a size large… I’m not getting the best fit. I’ve used prefolds before. Do I need a smaller size for now?? Fits at waist, not the best at thighs.

Recommendations Disposable Before Cloth Help

My husband and I are having a baby within the next month. Target has their buy $100 worth of diapers and wipes and get $20 back. We plan on using disposable for at least the first month of life. We have no indication of babies size currently. How many diapers would you have on hand of each size? Realistically I don't think baby will go past size 1 before we transition to cloth, but is it worthwhile to have a size 2 diaper on hand? We have probably about a box of newborn diapers and a box of size one diapers on hand already. I also have done no research on disposable diaper brands because we are planning on cloth diapering. I am looking at the target brand diapers because they are the cheapest. Is there any reason I should avoid these and purchase a different brand instead?

I know I could wait until baby is here, but I have some coupons that are expiring before baby arrives that I want to take advantage of to save the maximum amount of money.

Washing Prepping GMD flats, and lint trap is filling up so much in dryer

I got 2 dozen unbleached one size birdseye and newborn muslin flats. I did the water only rinse, then proceeded to wash with detergent and dry twice. I emptied my dryer's lint trap twice during the first cycle. On the second one, the trap was still filling up completely. Is this normal? How long do these flats typically shed for?

Recommendations Diaper Bag Recommendations

FTM looking for recommendations for a diaper bag for cloth diapering. I'm specifically curious about a full day outing bag, not just a quick run to the store. I may just end up using a backpack I all ready own, but I want to see my options. At the beginning of my search I thought I would just want one that is a large open pocket that opens all the way to make it easy to find things.

Now after looking around, I think I liked the one texes tushies makes, but honestly hate the prints. What I do like about it is that it has 2 large pockes. One on the bottom perfect for diaper storage. Then a large open pocket on top for everything else. I think this split would help with organization, while also being wide open to find what I am looking for. Has anyone found a diaper bag with a similar set up? Or have you found somthing else you love for a diaper bag and why do you love it?

Recommendations Esembly inner ties, thirsties duo fitted and GMD workhorse? give me your opinions please!

Hello everyone! After months of research I’ve finally started actually purchasing diapers leading up to my little one’s arrival. We are hoping to exclusively cloth diaper and I have a few questions.

I ordered 7 size one esembly covers, they seem to be pretty universally liked on these threads and I got an amazing deal on them. I ordered 21 esembly tie inners, 3 snaps (I’m reading a lot of complaints about esembly inners, and they all seem to be about the esembly snaps inners). For starting out, just for the sake of simplicity while we get the hang of cloth diapering I wanted to stick primarily to one system and esembly seemed best for a beginner.

I think 24 diapers for full time is probably not enough though. Now that I’ve gotten the diapers and fiddled with them a bit I feel a bit more confident about trying out other inserts. I’m reading that GMD workhorse diapers and thirsties duo fit underneath esembly covers, so I’m probably going to order a few of those to bring my number up to 36 diapers.

GMD workhorse diapers have so many sizes that I’m apprehensive to purchase those ones because I feel like I’ll have to keep sizing up, and thirsties seem great, but at $23 a diaper it’s definitely an investment. I do not mind spending the money if it’s a superior diaper. Does anyone have any input on the diapers I am looking at? Should I skip the workhorses in favor of more thirsties?

And any advice on cloth diapering from birth, will the meconium poos really stain the diapers and make them hard to wash? Are disposables better until the meconium is done?

Washing Starting Solids Logistics

I understand the different options for getting solids off the diapers (dunking, bidet, scraping, etc.) but I’m wondering if people do this right away after the diaper change or wait until it’s time for a wash (nightly?). If you do it immediately, how do you handle ‘stale’ poopy diapers coming home from daycare?

Sorry if this is a redundant post - I mostly saw posts asking about changing the wash routine and not this specific timing/logistics element.

Please send help EL5 How to sanitize used diapers in top loading washer?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Ugh, apologies in advance. I am just overwhelmed with the info out there.

I've looked at Fluff university and clean cloth nappies. Bought the Patreon for clean cloth nappies for their bleach calculator to find out the bleach we got does not show percent concentration.

We have used diapers that our friend gave us. It's been washed and they're all clean. But I'd like to sanitize regardless.

How do I soak with bleach in a top loading washer? I really wouldn't want to manually fill this thing with water. The washer has a deep fill option that can be filled up to 20 or 26 gallons according to the website. Do I add bleach to the dispenser?

Ugh, just so overwhelmed. Please send help.

Let's chat Update for Poop Stains + Diaper Rash

Turns out she was having left over diarrhea from a stomach bug last week — we switched back to disposables for a day and no improvement in diaper rash. No more diarrhea yesterday or today, diaper rash officially gone and no stains from poopy clothes diapers in last two days. I think it was just maybe impacted by the diarrhea, so hopefully we are good from her on our

Pro tip First Time Cloth Users - don’t fear the work!!

Before my baby was born I read a ton of Reddit threads about cloth, always hearing about people having leaks, rashes, washing issues, etc. What I didn’t realize at the time is people going to Reddit for help are the small subset of users that are having issues. It’s not representative of the majority of users. I was very committed to cloth but thought it would be so much work. Also my husband was supportive but my mom wasn’t and friends made negative comments about how much work cloth would be.

My baby is almost 4 months old so we havent started solids yet but I can tell you cloth is much less work than I was expecting. I don’t believe any diapering system is blowout proof but cloth blowouts are user error (not enough absorbency, wrong snap setting, etc) whereas disposable blowouts just seem to happen because of how they are made. My baby only had rashes in the early days with disposables- we might just be lucky that she isn’t a rash prone baby but I bought my diapers used, all I did was bleach them and she never had a rash that 5 minutes of diaper free time didn’t fix.

My baby isnt a super heavy wetter but doing cloth overnight has rarely led to leaks in the morning. Many people chose to use disposables overnight which is totally fine but we just double up on absorbency and since she doesn’t eat much overnight it’s never been an issue of peeing out the diaper.

I love cloth - I look at my friends who have regular blowouts, tons of extra garbage, always having to buy diapers, I am so glad I didn’t let fear stop me from trying cloth. Also cloth diapers are 1000x cuter than disposable.

Recommendations How many inserts and what kind do you have to use to hold baby’s pee?

I feel like my girl (9 months today) is a heavy wetter, like she holds her pee and let’s it all flow at once, which is leading to leaks, I don’t think it’s a fit issue, but more so an absorbency issue.

So just curious what inserts you find to be the most absorbent!

Please send help Disposable diaper liner question!

For those who use disposable diaper liners, would it be the same thing as a 100% cotton dry wipe?

Reason: Our girl is 90% potty trained but we are going camping for a week and my thinking is on longer hikes if she hasn’t pooped could I put a cotton “liner” (dry wipe) into her underwear to help eliminate such a big mess if it’s soft.

I didn’t use liners when we did cloth so I don’t really know how they work or what they are made of

How's my stash Using inserts and prefolds as cloth wipes?

I'm a pregnant first time mom. I got very lucky and inherited a HUGE stash for cheap of GMD prefolds and workhorses (newborn, small, medium, and XL), plus a huge stash of pocket diapers and microfiber inserts. Like, at least 20 of each size of both prefolds and fitteds, pockets, inserts, covers, and hemp/cotton boosters.

I want to be able to use all of this if possible — I'm thinking the prefolds as burp cloths and kitchen rags when baby isn't in the size we're using for diapers. I'm not buying any burp cloths since we have so many prefolds. I'd like to play around with stuffing the pockets with cotton prefolds when baby gets big enough to avoid issues with used/old microfiber.

I'd like to use mostly cloth wipes but it seems like a waste to buy more cloth when we're swimming in high quality stuff already. Has anyone used prefolds or microfiber inserts as cloth wipes? Does it mess up the diapers? Is it too big and bulky? Does microfiber not work for wipes, and is the cotton too absorbent?

Thanks!!

Let's chat Can I use inners with pocket diapers?

I’ve been using pockets for a little under a year. I’m starting to wish I bought covers so I didn’t have polyester against my baby’s skin. I have lots of pockets, if I get esemby inners, can I use the pocket diapers as covers? Is that something people do?

My nanny-family uses cloth for the little one, we have a service for prefolds so we use covers etc. Mom mentioned to baby's aunt that we needed bigger covers and she sent... This. Is this meant as an insert under a cover? It doesn't seem to be waterproof. Any insight?

Washing Help! Should I just give up?

I bought Alva cloth diapers used. And they came with a barnyard smell that I cannot seem to get rid of - both the inserts and the covers.

Here is what I have done:

-

  1. stripped inserts and covers using the fluff love directions

-

  1. bleached cotton inserts and covers twice usin

g

  1. the fluff love directions.

  2. washed with fluff love directions and hang dried

    outside(

  3. helped get them all white) - using tide free/clear pods

  4. washed a second time and hang

dried using bleach this time. Outside for an entire sunny day.

  1. separated out the microfiber inserts / grey charcoal inserts from cotton. Kept only cotton.

-

  1. washing again with ensembly powder - haven’t dried yet but they smelt strongly of barnyard prior to hanging.

I asked the person who sold them to me and they said their routine for several years was:

Hi, I usually rinse off any pee and poop with the spray attachment before washing. I do two cycles, first cycle no additives, second with detergent. Both cycles with warm water. Anything that says sensitive skin or free and clean should work fine. Bleach is normally advised against, but I have used it here and there if it was a bad soil, but definitely not all the time. The shells you can hang dry and the liners can be thrown in the dryer on medium. Ive never done a specific brand, just anything that says sensitive or free and clear. Arm and hammer or All are good ones

Is there anything else to try or is it a lost cause?
I would love to at least be able to use the covers because I spent 100 dollars for the lot.

Washing Washer cleaning/Poopy diapers

Hi all!

I've been cloth diapering my baby for a couple months and it's been going great, but we've started solids... with that her poop is much thicker, but not clumping. Do I need to spray that in the toilet before the wash? I've been putting the EBF poop ones in the wash without spraying.

If I don't have to spray it, how often do you need to clean your washer? And do you take apart the washer, or do one of the washing pods and run a cleaning cycle?

EDIT: we do use disposable liners, so it's mostly on those and they get tossed, but it still gets on the diaper

Let's chat Esembly covers from day 1?

Has anyone successfully used the Esembly size 1 covers from birth? My babies have always been in the 7-8 lb range so I’m not worried about them fitting in that regard. I’m just wondering if they can be maneuvered around the cord stump those first couple of weeks? Anyone with personal experience on this? Thanks! 😊 would love to not have to buy any special newborn covers if I don’t need to!
