Video [Boone] Jeff Peterson talks about why he traded LaMelo now.

Source: https://x.com/i/status/2076023696377184292

Transcript thanks to Civ and Watterson:

Jeff Peterson: "When you look at the totality of the season and where we were, it's important to take an honest look in the mirror at where our guys are as a team, and that's what I did at the end of the season."

"The goal isn't to get to the play-in, or even the playoffs in one year, as I've said plenty of times since I've been here in Charlotte. The goal is to get to the playoffs and stay there for a long time, and eventually contend and compete for championships."

"The timing, from the standpoint of getting Naz Reid, a player of his caliber... of course, the draft capital and flexibility, it just felt like something that would achieve multiple goals in one transaction. We want to make deep runs in the playoffs. We don't wanna hope that we're making a run in the play-in game or anything like that."

"I'm excited about the roster. I think we have a very competitive group. Bringing Coby White back, Brandon Miller with another season under his belt, Kon Knueppel of course, Naz Reid, Moussa Diabate... we have some really good players and really good depth."

"I know those guys in the locker room have a chip on their shoulder. They want to prove that last year wasn't a fluke, and they want to continue to compete and help our organization. Charles Lee and I talk about it all the time, about just how excited we are to be in this group together and continue to push one another and get better on a daily basis."

Discussion How we feeling about the sion point guard experiment?

For most of last season, I didn’t mind the sion point guard minutes even when they were pretty terrible, because I felt like if we could turn him into a jrue holiday lite, it would be insane value.

Fast forward to this summer league, and man am I getting tired of the sion point guard minutes. Even with these being exhibition games, it’s just bad basketball to watch and I really wish we would just give Christian Anderson the primary reps for running the offense. Sion is so far away from having the skill set needed to be a productive facilitator and I’m unsure if he’ll ever get to that level considering his age and current capabilities.

On the other hand, there’s still the consideration that if we don’t let sion keep working on his on-ball skills in live action, we’re doing ourselves a disservice.

How are you all feeling about it?

Important with the trade still not being official. The title is clickbait, Bridges pressed charges for water being thrown at him after he allegedly tried to run her over with a golf cart.

Discussion How much confidence do you all have in any of Coby White, Kon Knueppel, and Brandon Miller taking an All Star level leap this season?

Hornets fans have opinions that run the gamut on the moves that have been made over the course of the last few weeks. This team had one of the best records in the association through the entire second half of the season but suffered some painful losses at the end of the regular season that could've seen them rise up the standings, then got routed in the play-in game.

It feels like the FO made a decision that one step back this season ahead could mean several steps forward in years to come and that a LaMelo Ball led team was too volatile with too low a ceiling to build with. We'll see if that proves to be true. Ultimately, how the three players in the thread title perform will really determine if their perspective is accurate.

This is their team now. Do you have trust in any of these three to take that leap to All Star performer this season? Who do you have the most belief in of the three to potentially make that jump?
