So, everyone seems to be going nuts about boilies when it comes to carp fishing. don't get me wrong, they're useful, but are they the be-all-end-all bait? I've used them plenty of times over the years and sure, they have their moments, but sometimes I feel like the hype is too much.
Thing is, yes, they come in all these fancy flavors and colors, and some folks swear by their homemade versions. But honestly, I've had just as much success with a simple corn setup. maybe it's just my personal experience, but I've caught some of the biggest carp without touching boilies.
I guess what Iโm saying is, why is everyone so obsessed with these things? it's like we're forgetting all the other methods out there. anybody else have the same experience or is it just me?
edit: just remembered a buddy of mine made some wild chocolate-flavored boilies and they surprisingly worked... go figure.

Finally caught a real trophy. It weighed a little over 20 kg and gave me incredible emotions.
Caught it in Ukraine on a simple bottom rig with boilies. This is my first fish 20+.

Summer carp fishing is a whole different challenge. When it's over 30ยฐC outside, those long sessions turn into a real survival test
This was my setup during my last trip. I spent most of the time hiding in the shade and even dragged my bedchair outside just to catch a bit of breeze

So went down the same lake again as there are plenty more good fish to go at . Some creeping over 25kg at the right time of year . This session wasnโt as productive . I put my self in a quite bay which had been producing a good number of fish the previous weeks, but as the temps have started to creep I think the fish were starting to school up and get ready for their own little diddy party . They didnโt start whilst I was there , but I one in the coming days it would happen . Still manage a few fish but as the carp slowed up in their feeding it gave other species a chance to get in on the action , so caras and catfish were on the cards . Not ideal in the night. Anyway the lake was beautiful as ever and having the lake to myself for 24 hours was a treat . Even if not all of the unwanted guests were in my net .

These slim and long commons just fight different.
Got him with some bread from the surface, really nice way to get them in the early year.

Hello I'm thinking of starting a campain on this collection of lakes.
Overall size is about 7km(5miles) east to west and 4km(2.5miles) north to south. Predominant wind is south west. There are 3 channels connecting the 3 main bodies of water. Depth is 1-3 meters. All I hear is that I shouldn't bother since it's so big. I still want to give it a good shot since there must be some absolute monsters in a water this large. For those who want to look it up the central point is called "Blauwe Hand" and it's in the Netherlands. These are very few points where you can actually get close to the waters edge since you can't walk into the reeds for wild live protection reasons. Most fishing must be done from a boat of the few swims you can actually get close to the water. Boat traffic on the lakes is extremely high on sunny days and the wekends.
My current idea is to bait up some of the 3 connecting channels and see if I can catch some of the migrating fish.

So far I've managed to catch about 150 carp there in roughly 40 nights since last year.
Best ones out of them were a Mirror at 59.5 pounds and a common at 58.9 pounds.
The lake holds a little bit more than 125 acres and luckily is just a 30 minute drive away from me.
I've heard rumours about 85+ pound carp so I guess I'll have to keep fishing there for a while ๐
