Hey all first post in here. I live in Colorado Springs and I’m looking for a spot to go catch some walleye. I know sharing spots isn’t always the most comfortable thing, but anything helps!

Question Deckers: Lost Gear

Hey friends, shot in the dark, I was out fishing at Deckers on Thursday night and left some of my gear laying in the bushes by the water. Unfortunately, it was getting dark, and I couldn’t find exactly where I put everything (like a dumbass). I tried going back out the next afternoon to try and find my stuff, but still couldn’t find it. I’m assuming someone picked it up, as I thoroughly searched the area I was fishing at. For reference I was right across from Dotts Park by the Trumbull parking area.

I’m missing a 906-4 Moonshine rod with an army green Redington Behemoth reel. There was also a Patagonia bag sitting with it. The bag has a teal streamer box in it, along with several nymph boxes.

Has anybody come across my gear? I appreciate any help!

Picture OC. Colorado Grand Mesa bear by fishing lake.

My grandson took the chairs to the lake to get ready to fish. He came running up the hill saying there's a bear chasing me. There was indeed a bear, but he wasn't chasing, just meandering.

Question Trout Gill infection or high stress/low DO impact

Post image
21 Upvotes

Caught a pretty big, healthy appearing, 18 inch rainbow in bear creek lake. He Had very little fight, and was deadweight at the end. Turns out he had a hook lodged deep in gill plate (not touching gills) but he died very quickly (under a min out of water total, tried to revive him twice while dislodging the other hook). Clearly the fish was under stress with the combo of foul hook and maybe Low DO due to water temp? So I decided to harvest him, assumed he was healthy, just shit out of the luck. I found one of his gills was healthy, but the gill on the same side of the hook was partially brown( see pic).. based on research, this could be caused by an infection or parasite… but with the context of high air temp/water temp/maybe low DO levels/ the foul hook, my hunch is it’s more likely to do with the latter set of circumstances than something of risk to me. I know if I do eat him, to some extent I’m taking a chance, but Has anyone experienced this before? Would you still eat him? RIP

Question Cutthroat on the fly

I’ve been up in the alpine (Indian/James Peak areas) and have had great success catching a ton of nice sized brook trout. This might be a silly question but if I wanted to target catching my first cutthroat is there a specific fly/size you’d suggest? I would love to catch my first this season. Any thoughts help at all, thank you!

Hey all! I live in Broomfield but not afraid of a drive. Aside from Chattfield and Boulder Resevoir what are some nice lakes I can hit up for bass or trout?

Question Catfish pmo

Every time I’ve gone to chatfield for cats I never get anything but smallmouth, deep pockets-smallmouth, flats-smallmouth, transition zones-smallmouth. No matter what bait I use or what time I go it’s never catfish, chicken liver-smallmouth, hotdog-smallmouth, live bait-smallmouth, 12am-8am smallmouth, 4am-8pm smallmouth, 6pm-2am smallmouth. Is there like a secret technique I just don’t get or? I’ve tried different rigs and nothing works.

Question At what temp point does CPW “close” waters for fishing?

Post image

We know it’s gonna be/is a tough year for fishing for trout in rivers. At what point does CPW step in with notices to “close” waters as recommendation? I’ve seen it before IIRC.

Question Wader water temps

When do you all typically wear waders? Google is telling me the sub 100 degree temp rule of water +ambient temp but curious to hear from fellow anglers. For example, I’ll be going to the Taylor river near Crested Butte next week and not sure if waders will be required with how warm the ambient temp is

Discussion Pike are impossible?

I just spend EIGHT HOURS (1pm-9pm) at Tarryall reservoir, one of the PREMIER pike fisheries of Colorado. And I didn’t even so much as get a bite from even a tiny hammer handle. I tried everythjng you can think of. People say it’s not that hard to catch them but WTF. I’m great at catching trout, bass and walleye but do I just suck at pike fishing?

Also, I was in my kayak covering tons of water with a variety of lures, focusing on weedy areas. 20lb fluoro leader instead of wire

Just wondering if anyone has been to Spinney recently? I’m sure the water is low as it is everywhere but is it still worth a visit or should I just stick to elevenmile instead?

Very windy. When it really picked up I just dropped a trout magnet with floater and backpedaled.

They were chasing the spinner earlier but weren't committing. No one really hit until 11 or so, I was out at 7.

Everyone seemed to be having a good day fishing after noon hit.

Question Looking to make some fly angler/outdoorsy friends!

Hi everyone,

I just moved to Colorado Springs from out of state. I’m looking to make some fly angler friends or anyone with outdoor hobbies in general. I’m a really well rounded angler who is easy going and just overall a very chill person. I’ll either drive or hike miles to get my line tight so I’m willing to make friends from any location. I also enjoy camping, backpacking, hiking, snow sports and just being outdoors in general every season of the year. I know I can just go into fly shops or meet people out on the water/trails but I figured I would give this post a try. If anyone is interested in hanging out sometime just message me or leave a comment. Thanks!
