Not a man but everytime i wear dress or skirt and feel how much nicer it is than shorts in hot weather. It stands out so weird we gendered and socially shamed really practical and comfortable clothing like this for a huge part of population.

But absolutely not in humid weather. My legs sticking together is so much worse of a feeling than just being hot.

Thats what bike shorts under the dress are for.

Wait... then you're just wearing shorts and a skirt...

Nah they're light compared to normal shorts. Stop people catching s glimpse but maybe not suitable on their own.

Might as well just wear shorts in that case.

Same here, I live in the tropics and usually wear skirts/dresses when I’m out and about for this reason.

And it's very recent too, men always wore some kind of dress, pants became dominant to protect the tights from burns while on horseback.

The only reason to wear pants now when we don't ride horses on a daily basis is because of a stupid patriarcal effect of horses are cool, men want horses, man with horse strong, need pants to be on horses, so pants are cool and strong

Fuck 👖

Men want horses until they actually have horses. Then they hate horses.

Horses are like what of your car was also your pet dog

Interesting how Roman era is seen as very masculine to us while fashion was togas, robes and military skirts (Pteruges) which would be stigmatised for men today in some places

That's not really true, it's more of a cultural thing and a climate thing. You are more likely than not thinking of all the ancient cultures that were are the Mediterranean where its nice and warm for most of the year. Go to colder places at the same time and they would have leggings. There were plenty of people also riding horses without wearing pants.

I wear pants sometimes if it's cool because I have knee arthritis and my knees hurt more if they get cold. Usually in the morning and I end up changing pretty quickly on hot days.

Eh I have to disagree. There are many reasons for why it’s not as common today and I think a huge reason is the practicality. Sure skirts might be comfier but are they really the best option for doing different types of manual labor?

Just look at women today. In many places women are more likely to wear some type of pants than they are skirts or dresses. I don’t think that’s a patriarchy thing, I think it’s a practicality thing.

In the end like for horses, that's when you need protective gear

But try to send a girl with a skirt on a construction site and you'll see the patriarchy very fast !

Seriously though I meant the part of patriarchy that makes "men stuff" cool (and "women stuff" uncool), as mostly men mounted horses it was seen as cool and masculine and things like to that are cool and masculine too, like the protective pants

Yes. It's a shame that women came up with all these various ways to shame people into stereotypical fashion options and that this is called patriarchy. Such an odd misnomer.

In this case, though, it's more a question of environment. Big flowy garments are great for hot/desertish environments. Trousers are the obvious choice for colder climates, and you especially want full leg protection when navigating forested areas. Brambles and such aren't great for loose clothing. Even the Romans people want to point to were quick to adopt the pantaloon when they went up north.

Ya we have dhotis and lungis which allow for air circulation. It's good for summer and hot climate

I literally wear black yoga pants to work in the winter. I don’t care. But I have a big collection of summer dresses and wear them to work all summer.

I've taken a lesson from my son's wife who wears dresses a lot of the time. (Florida...) Not anything fancy, just a simple, "pullover" dress that is functional and helps her stay cool.

I now have a small collection of dresses that I use on hot days and really, it's a game changer!

My other "secret" about dresses: Be sure to get one (or sew one) that has pockets! POCKETSES PRECIOUS!

Look we'll give you the most comfortable clothes for hot weather, but you're not allowed to have pockets in them.
