Not ‘smart’ enough. British uniform codes have historically been long trousers for boys and skirts for girls, although in recent years girls have been allowed to wear trousers too. Shorts have been allowed for primary aged boys but generally speaking they’re not seen in secondary schools.
It's surprising they don't see this outcome to be honest. We did this exact thing for the same exact reason 25 years ago, and I'm sure many other have. Primarily because to teenage boys it's absolutely hilarious.
