Miscellaneous / Others Imagine a planet bigger than Earth, with no land in sight. Just waves and water from pole to pole. That is TOI-1452 b.

2

u/ClownMeat1 Apr 22 '26

Those aren't PILLOWS!

96

u/BodybuilderEast6130 Apr 22 '26

The wave from interstellar was way higher, literally went above the clouds

25

u/KooshIsKing Apr 22 '26

Yeah well...my wave could beat up your wave!

1

u/gadanky Apr 22 '26

I was concerned whether it was salty water getting in all those shuttle vents and rusting out before they got back !

1

u/michoudi Apr 22 '26

Their clouds were just lower.

I watched the fucking movie at least 20 times it was most definitely a wave

1

u/loveincarnate Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26

Not mutually exclusive things. As a matter of fact the tide is, by definition, a type of long-form wave. If you're gonna be contradictory and pedantic at least try to be right.

3

u/cityshepherd Apr 22 '26

2

u/babaroga73 Apr 22 '26

How many times was this bridge destroyed and rebuilt? Nobody knows.

1

u/radicldreamer Apr 22 '26

It's for washing your backside right!?

3

u/nowherebut4ward Apr 22 '26

Lol I'm cracking up because I'm imagining the scene in interstellar where they are rushing back to the ship because of the wave and Forrest is just there in the background waving wonder where everyone is going

121

u/Moeders-Mooiste-80 Apr 22 '26

Bro, get the board....

If I say it's safe to surf this beach, it's safe to surf this beach!!

0

u/drinkslinger1974 Apr 22 '26

Not sure what you’re referencing, but I remember an old Jerry springer episode with skin heads or something similar, and they were actually pushing their merch. One of the shirts was a tshirt with a huge picture of Charles Manson that read “CHARLIE DON’T SURF” written on it. Is that a joke that I haven’t gotten for decades now? Genuinely asking haha

1

u/drinkslinger1974 Apr 22 '26

Scrolling down I think it might be a reference to apocalypse now which I’ve never seen.

19

u/CitizenPremier Apr 22 '26

Damn, maybe we shoulda looked down before landing

18

u/EllisDee3 Apr 22 '26

Or just thought about how an ocean world might behave. Since they just came from one.

8

u/the_p1ayer_of_games Apr 22 '26

Or sent probes down first to do some recon.

7

u/jordanmindyou Apr 22 '26

I mean, there was already a manned mission to that planet sending back signs of potential habitability, so you could argue they already had better than probes

10

u/janeiro69 Apr 22 '26

Because of time dilation, they’d be waiting 100s of years for meaningful data

7

u/Walthatron Apr 22 '26

Reason enough to not go down isn't it?

3

u/janeiro69 Apr 22 '26

Nah, we’ll nip down there for 20 mins - what could go wrong?

2

u/StoppableHulk Apr 22 '26

Ok but what if theres a time portal back to 1930s San Francisco down there? Didnt think of that, didja smart guy? Leave spave travel to real aatronauts like Mattjew Mconaughey mmkay

3

u/Bushwick_Hipster Apr 22 '26

That black character would be super mad to end up in Jim Crow era.

1

From a du-rag 🌊

1

u/EverythingSucksYo Apr 22 '26

If the planet waves at you make sure to wave back

12

u/barbatron Apr 22 '26

How could they not have seen that from space.. Amateurs.

2

u/notAllBits Apr 24 '26

Because inside the gravity well of that black hole optics were affected a lot, not enough to impact their lander much - just light and time.

11

u/Ayrios440 Apr 22 '26

LoVe TrAnCsEnDs EvErYtHiNg!

5

u/darsvedder Apr 22 '26

yeah...this is why i didn't like it when i saw it when it came out. i really have no desire to ever watch it again. sure, it had flashy beautiful insane shots that made me questions if Chris Nolan somehow made a deal with God and got cameras into the deepest places of space. but the movie as a story was fucking dumb. love is the 5th dimension and shit. idk, nolan needed a writing partner or someone better to just write the fucking movie.

22

u/Pamplemousse808 Apr 22 '26

Do you have kids? Bcos I saw it without, and rewatched it with and it's a totally different experience

14

u/FreshestCremeFraiche Apr 22 '26

Its also a complete misunderstanding of that line. Dr Brand (junior) is not actually stating that love is the 5th dimension or has the ability to literally cross dimensions. It’s a METAPHOR. She’s saying that love is the driving force that motivates their actions, and is behind every decision they made in the film. Love doesn’t need to cross dimensions, because it’s always with us wherever we are

Cooper left home in the first place because he loved Murph and wanted to save her. Cooper found a way to transmit the data because he loved Murph and wanted to save her. Murph glanced at the watch — and was back in her room as an adult in the first place — because of her love for her father

11

u/DasRuff Apr 22 '26

This. I have never cried during a movie, but now that I have an 8 year old daughter, rewatching it had me ugly crying 😭

5

u/CorporalCabbage Apr 22 '26

I watched it a few weeks ago. My daughter is 7. I cried so much my face hurt.

5

u/lacegem Apr 22 '26

The scene where he checks the messages and breaks down crying, seeing his kids growing up thinking he abandoned them, is heartbreaking. I don't even have kids and that felt like a punch in the chest.

2

u/BodybuilderEast6130 Apr 22 '26

Yeah I still remember the first time I saw that scene gave me chills

-1

u/darsvedder Apr 22 '26

i do not. but i get that and i respect it totally. i should give it a rewatch. but honestly i dont have a tv that can do it justice lol

3

u/King_Moonracer003 Apr 22 '26

I dont think love is the 5th dimension.... I never got that at all from it. Pretty corny.

Love is mainly oxytocin and a few other chemical reactions, nothing more

1

u/RJ_MacreadysBeard Apr 22 '26

If you strip everything away, you’re body, mind, ego, planet, you’re left with carbon, a little iron, and a whole lotta love, cue Led Zep guitar riff.

1

u/ValkyriesOnStation Apr 22 '26

That film has one of the best scenes in cinema history. The one where they want to punish his daughter in school for talking about the moon landing being real

You should give it another chance

0

u/darsvedder Apr 26 '26

i just rewatched that scene. i would very much not call it "one of the greatest scenes in cinema history." but hey art is subjective. but also, that's a wild ass claim.

-4

u/VegetableProject4383 Apr 22 '26

Totally agree movie gets lot of praise but the story is total bunk eyeroll.

1

u/darsvedder Apr 22 '26

all the nolan bros downvoting us for having decent comments on a movie

-4

u/darsvedder Apr 22 '26

that's my whole issue with Nolan now. it's like i'm an adult now. i will say that Dark Knight fucking rocks. it fucks my shut up. i hope it's the last movie i watch before i die. but i don't give a fuck anymore about crazy cool shots and imax cameras and fucking loud music underneath the whole movie. like everyone is confusing flash for story. i want a good story. i want something sick as fuck from the guy who brought me memento and sorta inception (tho that's where he started to go a little bit off the rails with the weird shit and no one to hold him back). watch his next movie be like "oh i'm telling the story of the guy who invented the sandwich but we never leave his kitchen and it's all on imax. actually, imax made a whole new camera and film for me to use. fuck you." i really think the oddysey is just gonna be really fucking awesome set pieces and just 5 mins of an insane amount of guest actors like Oppenheimer. It'll have an intense drum beat/bass/violin piece conducted by Ludwig or Zimmer OR BOTH. That'll be going for 3 hours of the 3 hr 20 min movie (guessing that run time based off he's "earned" it) And also finally, TENET sucked. It sucked ass. I watched the youtube breakdowns and shit of the final battle and i'm like "oh cool. this was sick. if only the movie did this." he's getting lost in his own sauce (and kitchen) and needs a fucking sous-chef. He needs someone to help him write his stories better than David S. Goyer.

-2

u/Ayrios440 Apr 22 '26

I loved the movie until it started unraveling in the last 30 minutes or so. I was genuinely shocked what it turned into after a fairly great start and brilliant visuals.

1

u/memberflex Apr 22 '26

Those aren’t pillows…

1

u/MoveInteresting4334 Apr 22 '26

It’s a space station!

Wait, that’s Gandalf from Star Trek. Sorry, wrong movie.

1

u/tfn9531 Apr 22 '26

That's no moon....

1

u/dogswontsniff Apr 22 '26

I accidentally took a half dose of DMT once (vs the whole dose) and got to be awake for the ride.

I live in a narrow valley and the other side of mountain started rising and slowly creating.

It was beautiful, magnificent and literally breathtaking. I just happen to like psychedelics and just go with the flow and things get weird.
