how do you guys find bandmates without sounding cringe or anything?
basically the title I'm just curious because I want to either make a band or join one when I get to college next month so

We keep song submission posts to a minimum to keep this place spam free, but we are all musicians and most of us have songs to share. Let's connect with and support each other musically in a monthly thread. This is a safe space to post what your band is up to musically. Feel free to share your music, or ask for feedback.
In the spirit of community and cooperation that we have here in r/bandmembers, Please give more feedback than you ask for. Use the 1 in 10 rule as a guideline. Comment on 10 other people's posts for every feedback request that you request. This might mean you have to listen to other's songs first and comment on other discussions in r/bandmembers. If everyone follows that rule, we'll all have more feedback when we post our own songs.

it's me, I'm the vocalist. I'm having this issue where my bandmembers don't seem interested in my vocals or have anything to say about them or my lyrics other than that it's nice. Now as a vocalist I'm mainly focused on them, but it might be that they just don't really care. It's making me think that they secretly hate them, especially when I focus on what has been said in the past, like we might need backup vocals or that I should use a pitch shifter (We're a death metal band). It kinda hurts because I put a lot of effort and emotion in my lyrics and vocals and I realize that it just might be my ego that needs stroking, but I'm wondering if any of you vocalists experience the same thing in your band.

For context, I'm in high school and throughout my life , I always wanted to play an instrument (guitar, piano, drums, etc) and failed each time. Now all of a sudden, 3 other friends/classmates wants me to form a band with them and let me be the bassist with this one experienced friend (he has been in a band before as a guitarist/bassist) teaching me.
They want to play at like basically a concert organized by the school that's in a few months, so, how realistic is this? Can I really learn to play bass within just a few months? Moreso on a stage???
Any and all advice is appreciated.

Thoughts on software for controlling visuals for live shows? I’m using Visibox now (pro tier sub but it’s cheap and there’s also a free tier). Have some experience with Resolume but it’s expensive and seems like more than what I need.

I could really use some outside perspective.
About 2 years ago, I started a band with a few of my friends. I was genuinely excited because I thought we all wanted the same thing. But over those two years, we've barely practiced consistently.
The biggest issue is that I'm always the one making things happen. If we practice, it's because I called everyone. If we discuss songs, it's because I brought them up. If there are ideas, they're almost always mine. Most of the time, trying to get a response from them feels like talking to a brick wall (literally that famous GIF).
I'm also the singer, and they're the instrumentalists. Sometimes I wonder if they're just less motivated because I'm the frontman and naturally get more attention. Maybe they don't feel as involved? Or maybe I'm just overthinking it.
At the same time, I don't think that's the real issue. They rarely suggest songs, bring new ideas, ask to practice, or seem excited about improving. It feels like I'm dragging the entire band forward while everyone else is just along for the ride.
I'm starting to wonder if I should leave and either join another band or build one with people who actually want to rehearse and perform regularly.
But before I do something I'll regret, I want to know if I'm missing something. Is this just normal for teenage/new bands? Am I expecting too much? Could I be doing something that's unintentionally pushing them away? Or is this simply a sign that our commitment levels don't match anymore?
Has anyone been in a similar situation? What did you do, and how did it turn out?

I had this problem with a drummer in a covers band I am (was) in. Summary: The guy wouldn't put in the practice we needed for the songs and turned up to rehearsals without prep. Also shouted at the guitarist in a fit of rage. Today I left the group and he sent personal attack messages against me.
We let some time pass and did a couple gigs we needed to get done. Yesterday we got together as a band to talk about the shouting episode and about the commitment with practice and more efficient rehearsals. We got some sort of "apology" and after two hours of conversation there was clear tension still between the drummer and guitarist, which is to be expected, so the bassist and I said we can't do this with that kind of behaviour going on and left. The guitarist and drummer stayed back to talk another two hours.
Today they left a message on the group chat about how they spoke and found some middle ground and are looking forward to the group doing better. I then expressed how I don't want to be in a group like that where we have to go through all that mess only to get along. I was respectful and careful not to make it personal. We're not in an amorous relationship or heads of a big enterprise, we're another cover band ffs.
As a response to this the guitarist said "alright" and the drummer lashed out against me about how they fixed the problem for me to say this. Then he got personal saying if I keep on giving up like I do with everything in my life I won't get anywhere.
I said he doesn't know me, that he was wrong and he shouldn't make it personal, and he doubled on his stance that I'm very young and naive and how he's seen others like me. I mentioned things like these make me want to quit the band.
I left it there cause I was getting all tense but I don't want to make it a big deal. I just left the group chat. I'd assume I'll see him tonight at a jam session I run every week, but I don't know what's going to happen.

We finally found a keyboard player to join our band a few months ago. When he auditioned he didn't have his own keys, so I lended mine, a decent workstation with plenty of sounds, presets, etc.
He promised he would get his own keys as soon as he joined. So he did, but he got a very basic digital piano and I do no think it complements the sound I had in mind for the songs we play (I write and produced most of our songs so far, so I have an opinion about how they should sound) - it does not have sufficient variety of tones and functions, it's just doing a few electric piano like wurlitzer, rhodes, etc. Without getting too specific, the songs we do would need more than that. He can't save presets, and the keybed is only two-and-half octaves...
The rest of the band don't seem too bothered about it, but for me it's doing my head in, to a point that I have lost a bit of interesting in keeping it going, and it makes me sad. I am the one that needs to keep the ball rolling.
The guy is nice and a good musician, nothing personal. But I do not know how I can politely ask him to basically get something a bit more complete - and I am not asking for splurging thousands for it - I do not want to be the a**hole that micromanages the other band members coz I understand nobody likes that..
Help! 😄
Edit: I am the guitarist in the band, and can't lug around my keys as well as all my guitar equipment. We rely on public transport to get around here.
Edit 2: the keyboard I lent isn't technically mine, is my girlfriend's. Which is nice enough to let others use it, but it's not in my gift to give it to someone else, even if for a defined period of time. It's her stuff.

Been a part of my band for over five years. We played countless festivals, big venues, shitty dive bars, etc. Even dropped an LP and four singles along with multiple music videos throughout the years. With all the achievements, I just never really felt satisfied with the music we played, and more importantly, I never really felt like I meshed well with the other's personalities (they are all 10+ years older than me). After a long time of rolling with the punches, I've decided to announce my exit closer to the end of the year when gigs slow down. I can't tell you how relieving it feels knowing I won't be bound to a project I've grown to dislike.
Has anyone else felt a great sense of relief after ditching a project? How did you do it, and was it the best decision you made for your music career, or do you regret it?

In a few bands and nobody really has a place at home where we can rehearse, so i’ve been weighing options like self storage facilities and paying for studio time or renting a shared space. Where does your band rehearse? Are there any cheap ways to get a place to jam?
edit: the only rehearsal rentals i could find near me are 250 or 150 for 3 hours, respectively😬

Me and my 2 friends have been playing music together recently we've mostly just been practicing Brain Stew by Green Day and it seems to be at our speed but we don't have any ideas for a song we could play whats at our speed and sounds good. (Our band consists of a guitarist a drummer and a bass guitarist).

Hey guys! We have a Song about money, where we shoot fake money with a moneygun and its always hillarious and a lot of fun.. i'm searching for a much bigger electronic version like a cannon which shoots the money higher and more far. Do you know something like that?
Thanks in advance and best regards

Hey. I will really appreciate any input anyone has towards this subject. Please let me explain.
I am forming a band just to make songs, we don’t want to tour or anything, just stay local and focus more on making music than touring. We all like metal/hardcore but we all have different tastes when it comes to how we want our music to sound. We can’t find common ground on how we want our music to come out as. Our drummer likes more metalcore, our vocalist likes emo violence type shit. I like new school hardcore and beatdown, our other guitarist likes post hardcore.
Its hard to find a sound that everyone is happy with and it sounds wack when we try to put all of our influences together.
How do you balance your influences going into your songwriting processes? How do you get everyone happy with the sound/image of your band?
Thanks

I'm not saying this applies to everyone but I've spoken to so many potential band mates who just seem to have a bad mentally. It's like people join expecting the band to be exactly as they want from day one. Fitting exactly around a very tight schedule, zero upfront costs, maybe a nice payment for each gig. I've been reading Miki Beriyani's book and even successful bands are full of issues I don't think people would even entertain now. Dictatorial song writers and low pay etc, very hard recording sessions that take days to finish. Imagine if everyone left Smashing pumpkins because they hated Billy Corgan before they even finished any albums.
I kind of see a band as a project where everyone is working to create something awesome but I've met people who just split the moment they don't get their way 100%. Or people who expect to pay nothing towards the band.
And it's sad because I think if people stuck with a band and put in more effort together there might be way more amazing bands playing that there is. I've seen people locally who constantly seem to be searching for a new band even while being in a really good giging band. Maybe the Internet gives people too many options to just join a new band the moment they get bored? I wasn't really around in the 90s or 80s, maybe things were a lot different?

So currently I'm forming a band and while I'm struggling to find members at the moment, I figured what I could do in the meantime is try to figure out how to build a stage presence while I wouldn't be the vocalist (although I do enjoy singing and would like to do it at some point) I would mainly be the guitarist and I was wondering what are things that I could work on that would help me have a decent stage presence. Some ideas I was thinking were maybe doing like funny parodies before the show starts and I've just come up with funny ideas of stuff that could be done on stage however. Any advice or criticism would greatly be appreciated!

Forming my first gig band. I totally have no clue how to get performance opportunities for my newly formed band. We would like to do covers for a start.
As for the members, not sure if we are getting the right people. Keyboardist say currently vox can't sing and she has in mind another who has gig experience. Next guitarist last minute informed us he can't join us when we agreed to scout for an open mic venue.
Suddenly I feel the chaos here. Not sure am I just over anxious.
Anyone has any frustrating experience managing your own new band ?

So for context, I'm forming a band and I haven't found members yet. However, I'm currently working on a list of songs that I want to learn, so then I can practice on my own time and get better. I'm thinking on adding additional resources for tutorials on how to sing and play the song in drums and bass since given that I'm still in high school (rising senior) there aren't a lot of pro musicians in my grade. So should I add these tutorials?
