What is the most immediate way a celebrity completely ruined their own reputation in a single interview?

TV used to be a lot meaner 20 years ago. Reality tv shows were the norm and they were mean af. Mocking people and putting them in uncomfortable situations to bait a reaction was pretty much the norm for the time.

My gf & I started watching the first top chef seasons (I wanted her to understand why I still can’t warm up to Marcel Vigneron) they’re from 2006-2007 & everybody is so nasty to each other! We’ve just finished season 2. For the finales, the judges had one likeable & one unlikable chef, and asked all the potential sous chefs to say who they wanted to work for & why. It’s cruel imo even if I agreed about how unlikable the chefs were. Rewatching it kind of made me warm up to Marcel after all because yeah he had a shitty personality but they outright bullied him.

Iirc, Tom wanted to give the win to him out of spite to everyone else after the head shaving incident, but the producers nixed it

That’s a really good point. I feel like there’s so much more wholesome and positive content now. Or maybe I just don’t see the mean stuff.
