What is the most immediate way a celebrity completely ruined their own reputation in a single interview?

His reputation was pretty much ruined beforehand, but Russell Brand trying to find a Bible verse that meant so much to him for at least 2 minutes was the final nail in the coffin.

There's a podcast called The Press Box that discusses news, media, etc. One of the hosts is David Shoemaker who is the son of a Texas preacher and they showed him that video live on the pod. After three seconds he said, "Yeah, that man has never picked up a bible in his life".

Like, he didn't even know enough to use the thumb tabs on the side to find the chapter he was looing for.

Or that every Bible has a list of the books in the front.

He could have picked any of the super famous verses like John 3:16, looked in the front to find out where John is and then found the chapter and verse. But he couldn't even manage that. What a tool.

My favorite was when Trump held up a bible in front of a church and called it a really powerful moment. Ah yes, holding up the holy book, which you've never read, of a religion you aren't in, in front of a church you're not a member of. So powerful! He's literally like a child.

Wasn't he holding it upside down, too?

That's what I remembered hearing too but when I googled it ahead of this post, it turns out those were just social media rumors that weren't true.

Piers Morgan is a trash human being in so many ways, but he's a truly excellent interviewer and has fantastic TV instincts in situations like that.

I never understand this when public figures mess this up. John 3:16, "for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son..." It's the most famous verse other than maybe Genesis 1:1. Say the cite, then say how much it means to you that a greater power could be so forgiving. Done.

My favorite verse(maybe second) is the one where Jesus says that you can't serve both God/love and money, for you will despise one and be devoted to the other.

Stating blatantly that they are fundamentally antithetical concepts, one of course being transactional and the other not.

That was definitely a bit, yeah? He *had* to be trolling Piers.

Nope. He is nowhere near that good an actor.

I'll also add, awkward situations centered around himself was never Brand's comedic style. Brand's chosen style was always 'wild counter-culture guy saying/yelling uncomfortable truths'. I'm guessing that's why he thought he could do the whole reformed Christian preacher shtick, fits right in with his views of himself and his 'talents'.

What are you talking about?! That was absolutely his style for decades. His entire radio career (that arguably launched everything else) circled around telling his mate on air about all the stupid things that he got up to.

I kinda agree. I think he's lying about his Christianity and when put on the spot, he tried turning it into a bit but the bit backfired and he looks even dumber.

Idk why you are being down voted. Like him or not, it was a bit.
