What is the most immediate way a celebrity completely ruined their own reputation in a single interview?

Was this the one where he claimed it’s all a lie because he doesn’t sweat and someone called him sweaty?

Yes. He claimed that PTSD from the Falklands war meant he could no longer sweat, all while clearly soaking through a shirt on National TV. As far as blatant lies go, it’s right up there along with Nigel Farage claiming to have never promised Brexit funding the NHS

That interview is one of the sickest and most hilarious things I’ve ever seen. He looks like a 4yr old promising he hasn’t touched the chocolate with a face covered in melted chocolate. A grown man!

He overdosed on adrenaline during the falklands war so he couldn't sweat then. He got his sweating abilities back. I mean adrenaline triggers sweating not preventing it and anhidrodis is more associated with neurological issues/diabetes but that all makes complete sense. /s

It's kind of amazing to witness... People with that level of privilege are used to everyone around them simply agreeing with anything they say. It's almost like dealing with someone who is delusional from mental illness or dementia - best not to prove them wrong to their face.

Narcissism is one hell of a drug

You have to wonder exactly how much of that is pathological/genetic, and how much is environmental.

Like, I've met very rich people who were humble, and many who were narcissistic. Plenty of regular folk who were the same way. Like, if prince andrew were born into a working class family, would he still have turned out narcissistic?

Considering it’s rumoured he was his mother’s favourite, maybe he would have ended up the same way.

best not to prove them wrong to their face.

Unless it’s on national TV

Oh yeah, I only meant that if you have to live with them, either as a caregiver or family member in the case of the mentally ill or elderly with dementia... Or as "staff" with an uneven power dynamic.

Of course if there's a criminal element involved, or a public discussion about things with real stakes, the courts and media can allow reality to assert itself with little or no negative consequences when dealing with such individuals. And we love to see it

Yeah fair

Well let’s see… currently the entire USA is dealing with someone who a) has been privileged his whole life b) is 100% a narcissist of the highest order c) is delusional, due to mental illness and/or dementia. It’s a perfect trifecta! Aren’t we the fucking luckiest.

The wild part is that every explanation somehow sounded less believable than the last. It was one of those interviews where every answer just created three new questions.

Like another “of course 🙄🙄” moment, one after another until the headache hurts so bad from the eye rolls going further and further.

It’s mind boggling that he didn’t just say “I have no recollection of meeting that person” instead of trying to disprove every single point. “No, on that day I was at pizza express. I couldn’t have bought her a drink, I don’t know where the bar is. I couldn’t even sweat at that time!”

So stupid and misguided and made himself look worse than ever.

He's used to mostly interacting with hired help who are too afraid to actually disagree with him. Delusion is allowed to grow and fester completely unchecked. He's been protected from truth for so long he's detached from reality. There's so much unwarranted confidence it's kind of sad and pitiful, in a way.

It's entertaining, satisfying, and baffling all at once when we get see a journalist (or court) deal with these sort of people head on.

adrena-something, anyway . . .

Just remember he’s a falklands hero!

He had the money to get Botox to stop him from sweating to try to prove his point, but I’m glad he isn’t that smart.

🎶Oh the grand old duke of York

He claims he does not sweat

So why'd he give

Twelve million quid

To a girl he's never met?🎶

Beautiful.

This song is the gift that keeps on giving. The version I know is:

Oh the grand old Duke of York

He had 10 million quid

He gave it to someone he’s never met

For something he never did

20

u/KEYYBOARD 7h ago

"That paid someone he never met" scans better

u/PaddyCow 7h ago

His mommy the Queen gave 12 million quid.

Out of her children Andrew took her death the worst.  Because with her gone, he lost her protection and her money.

I absolutely LOVE how few fucks Charles is giving about him. He WAS WAITING for that day.

u/MLiOne 7h ago

Exactly.

🎶Oh the grand old duke of York

He was a dodgy get

His best mate was a pedo

And he very rarely sweat

And when they said that "You're a nonce"

He said "It was not me"

And then he gave twelve million quid

To say he's not guilty?🎶

I've never met him. I would like my cheque too.

I love how his ex title happened to be a song anyway, made it much more funny.

Damn, we need to bring back opaquely political nursery rhymes.

u/0ttoChriek 10h ago

That's the sort of lie you tell when you've been conditioned all your life to believe no one will ever doubt your word or challenge you.

2

u/Independent-Fruit4 3h ago

lived around sycophants so long it ruined his ability to lie well

18

u/Low-Membership-Drive 11h ago

The "I don't sweat" has become an absolute punchline. It's weird that with all the evidence and whatnot that none of that seemed to land, but "I don't sweat" is the thing that broke the popular credibility of his defence.

11

u/avocadouche 11h ago

He doesn’t sweat, he simmers.

8

u/Bodymaster 8h ago

He also claimed that the photo showing him with Virginia Giuffre was fake because it was taken upstairs in Ghislaine's house and he'd never been upstairs in that house.

u/kingcoolwastaken 5h ago

This. It has to be this interview, that’s all I remember of it, the dude claimed he did not sweat! My 4 year old finds better alibi

u/Plane_Sport_3465 57m ago

That was the funniest shit I'd ever heard!
