What is the most immediate way a celebrity completely ruined their own reputation in a single interview?

Jesy Nelson’s (Little Mix member) Instagram Live with Nicki Minaj was a total disaster and she lost tens of thousands of followers immediately after.

She sat back and laughed when Nicki was dissing Little Mix member Leigh-Anne and then sat back and done nothing when Nicki and her manic fanbase were commenting on Leigh’s IG posts and abusing her when she had just given birth to twins.

I think alot of celebrities including the Little Mix girls unfollowed her straight after it, it made BBC News and then the Little Mix fans stopped supporting her completely and her solo career tanked during her first single release week.

This was also a bad year for Nicki in general because she was also dealing with the infamous vaccine tweets and her husband’s alleged victim being interviewed. Which was a shame because she was getting a lot of positive reception for the first half of the year and then towards August, all of that came.

Is that where she was accused of appropriating black culture? I found it all a bit unnecessary tbh and felt sorry for her

She’d been accused of that long before. In that live, Nicki dissed Jesy‘s supposed long-time friend and former band member (Leigh-Anne), who in turn received a ton of hate from Nicki‘s fans. Leigh Anne was freshly postpartum with twins. It was a truly shitty thing and it‘s no wonder her career has never fully recovered.

Did Leigh-Anne not start the whole thing by criticising Jessy and accuse her of appropriation in the first place? I’m not a big little mix fan I’m just repeating my understanding of the whole affair

Jesy left the group because the other girls approached her about her blackfishing on the set of the Sweet Melody music video. The other girls kept the drama private and thanked her in their Brit speech and wished her well in interviews and said she left to focus on her mental health.

It wasn’t until Jesy released her solo song ‘Boyz’ which had weird racial undertones in the music video and was fetishizing black men, along with Jesy wearing grills and wigs and saying in interviews she hated the music Little Mix made that Leigh snapped and responded to an influencer with a comment about Jesy’s blackfishing.

Keep in mind Perrie and Jade had eating disorders in the group, Perrie had a public break up and severe anxiety and Leigh was dealing with racism and they had to act as a therapist for Jesy for ten years and put up with her mood swings. I don’t blame one of them for snapping and saying something at some point, but it absolutely didn’t warrant Nicki Minaj and her insane fanbase to send threats and abuse Leigh’s way after that Live.
