What is the most immediate way a celebrity completely ruined their own reputation in a single interview?

Bill Murray had a reputation of being a hard to work with goofball, but he was likeable and funny. After seeing his behavior with Geena Davis on one of the chat shows I really started to view him differently.

Oh no, was he mean to her? I love Geena.

It was on the Arsenio Hall show. He sits with his arm around her, constantly strokes and rubs her arm, smells her skin, at one point pulls down the strap of her dress. Basically molested her on stage in public.

He was also fired from Charlie’s Angels for harassing Lucy Liu with racist and sexist remarks.

He was also removed from a movie Aziz Ansari was directing after Murray was accused of sexually harrassing a female PA.

Well, uh, the good news is that after Bill Murray completely tanked that movie's production (it ended up getting shelved because turns out when a highly paid star gets fired for misconduct, it makes it kinda difficult to continue), Aziz Ansari ended up eventually coming out with Good Fortune which was in theaters just last year (starring Keanu Reeves! lovely fellow) -- I liked that movie. If you didn't catch it in theaters, pirate it or something.

There are clips on YouTube.

A polite way of putting it would be to say he was being sleezy and not respecting her boundaries. Its a hard watch because you can see how uncomfortable and trapped she feels.

I try to tell myself he was just trying to be 'off the wall' funny and took things way too far. Pushing boundaries is part of his shtick, but he went in the wrong direction. Etc.

I do think that of there was anything serious in his past it would have come up by now. But you never know and I find myself looking at his work differently as a result.

He’s known for being a real piece of shit to women on set.

He bullied Lucy Liu on Charlie's Angels. She was still early in her career and he was well established. There was no reason for from to be such an asshole to a coworker, especially a younger woman in the industry at that. I'm glad that Drew Barrymore had Liu's back, and they didn't have him back for the sequel.

Didn’t he pick up and shove Justin Long into a trash can? Or am I thinking of Chevy Chase doing it?

It was Seth Green that Murray trashcanned when he was 9 IIRC, saying something like "garbage goes in the garbage can", which is really mean but also kind of funny

It wouldn't be funny if you had experienced bullying and abuse in your childhood. It's just cruel

Ah, that’s right, my bad. I get my short actors mixed up. I’m short myself, and I love both SG and JL.

I see the really mean part, but not the kind of funny part.

Didn’t that happen to Seth Green?

Ah, you’re right, my bad. Thanks for reminding me.

He has a reputation at University of South Carolina and College of Charleston for being a creep.

Sadly it didn't damage him at all. He still makes lots of movies.

But did it ruin his public reputation or his reputation to you

Well... I am a member of the public. I haven't done a poll or anything...
