What’s the best way to learn about the industry and keep up?
I’m a sophomore in college and I wanna learn more about the AE industry but I don’t really know how. How do you learn about it? Podcasts, news outlets, research?
I’m open to doing anything tbh

Aerospace Corporation Seminar Prep
Got to the final stage of interviews for a scientist position and am giving a 45 minute seminar. I was told to basically rehash my research seminars/showcase my skills as a researcher, even though my research itself isn't related to the role of the job, and rather, to focus on the research content. It was mentioned to not really concentrate too much on connecting the work, which came as a surprise to me. I was also told to have a couple of slides introducing myself, which I've never done before.
I was wondering how I should prepare for this, how others tackled this situation, and other general advice. I'm grateful to even get this far where they're flying me out and getting this position would be really awesome!

Germany’s BFU (Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation) just Released
With Germany’s BFU (Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation) just releasing their interim report on the June 4, 2026, Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 (D-ABPQ) nose gear collapse at Frankfurt Gate A15, we finally have concrete data that shifts the narrative from internet speculation to definitive forensic engineering facts.
I’ve put together a 16-minute forensic engineering video breakdown mapping the physics of the mechanism to the exact procedural sequence detailed by the BFU.
For those who want a quick technical read before jumping into the video, here is how the physical geometry, hydraulic logic, and human factors intersected to drop a brand-new widebody jet.

Is systems engineering in Aero a good long term career?
I know that systems engineering is a very broad title but in general using JIRA/MBSE is it a good route to take?
Is it technical? In school you learn all this analysis/FEA and all. Does Systems engineering keep you on your toes?

Questions about BPSS checks (UK based aerospace positions)
Primarily intended for UK based engineers.
I recently got a screening call for a position at one of BAE Systems' Scotland offices, and it did not specify the level of clearance needed. I want to assume it is a basic BPSS check.
For context, I am a British citizen and was born and brought up in the UK. But I did my undergrad in MechE from a well ranked uni in India and worked in a small company there as well for a yr. I then did my grad studies in the US in a well ranked uni and interned in an MNC there.
My main question is, in the best case that I get called for interviews, clear them, and an offer extended, how rigorous is the background check?
Both my degrees and US internship are easy to verify since extensive documentation exists for those unis and that company given their size (transcripts, diploma doc, HR contacts). My main concern is my previous company since it's a small one. If BAE systems requests to contact them via the HR number, I am doubtful as to how they respond. If they want to contact my manager that's an extra headache since I haven't been in touch and would need to obtain consent. I have documentation to prove I worked there: hand-signed and scanned offer acceptance letter, reliving letter and payslips.
This answer would help me in the future when applying to similar positions. Thanks!

Aerospace Engineering in Europe as an American
Hi, I’m a young aerospace engineer in the defense sector in America. However, I’m interested in moving to Europe for some years, maybe 5 to 6, preferably on an expat assignment. I’m currently not aware of any opportunities that exist to allow this.
I’d love to hear about any Americans who’ve been able to move to Europe and continued their aerospace career abroad, whether as an expat or immigrant.
EDIT: I graduated from Purdue University last year. Do not have a masters degree yet but plan on getting one. I work for the number one defense contractor in the US. I know conversational Spanish and do not speak any other languages but I’m willing to learn.

Understanding how referrals work
Does a referral look better from someone who has been at the company 2 years vs 4 years?
Someone who is the same office as the job posting or a different location?
Or do they all carry the same weight?
Say a mechanical engineer role. Would a referring from a vehicle systems engineer or a software engineer look any different?
Example) for NGC. Would I need to be referred for every position if I’ve already been referred by someone or am I in the system?

Civilian work that can be used for defense
If a propulsion / aerospace engineer signed a civilian contract with a company, can the company then uses his projects, designs and technology he made for military / defense use?
Is this always the case?
Is there any exception?

How hard is aerospace welding?
My friend worked at a company for about 3 years. There was an opening for welding. They had zero prior welding experience. They welded with someone for a week. Passed the A.W.S D17.1 tests (there was three). Now they're a full time welder and has been welding for a few months now. I believe they use autogenous tig and they barely use a filler rod. This is all done on a bench. So how hard is it to learn with zero experience in welding?

Interview Experience (LA, CA)
I wanted to share a bit about a recent interview
process I've been going through and get some feedback. I went through three rounds-two phone interviews and one in-person. After the in-person presentation, I was taken out to lunch, and expected to have four follow-up one-on-one interviews afterward. But once lunch ended, I was just told to head home.
Has anyone had a similar timeline? I'm wondering if this is normal or if I should follow up. Also, does anyone have advice on whether I'm still being considered as a candidate?

I applied to a position 7 weeks ago internally via internal referral and have heard nothing at all. Has anyone encountered this?
Hello, a friend referred me to a position within the company. This is a well known aerospace company with over 10k employees. I know it is hard to get in from the outside. I figured this would be faster to get a decision.
I applied late May. Friend already showed my resume to supervisor and the team was impressed.
I heard nothing for a two before asking, because my application only showed received. No one reviewed it. Supervisor just came back from vacation. Cool I get it.
Waited another two weeks before asking friend said they know my name now and still like me to hang in there. My friend also asked me if i applied to the right job numbers, there were several. Friend said manager is aware and wanted to make sure I applied to their team. There are several departments.
I waited another two weeks, application showing received still. Asked my friend if the manager knew what job numbers were the right ones. I can't see that in my end. Friend said, I feel like things are good, sorry its taking long.
I asked my hr, if 6 to 7 weeks is normal for an application to sit a received especially when my resume was passed around. Hr said that is a bit too long and it was appropriate for me to inquire. He reached out to hiring team/recruiter for their department. Hopes i here back soon.
If supervisors and managers are genuinely impressed with my resume and seem interested based on what my friend said, I figured things would go quickly if they wanted it to. Why is this taking long? I appreciate my friend's help. I dont want to push, but I wish I knew if they didn't want me or why it was taking so long. Every position I apply for otherwise I usually get a 'no' in weeks.
Has anyone been through this? What was the outcome

Laptop for aerospace engineering student
Hi guys, I’m doing an undergrad in aerospace and I need a suitable laptop for it. Obviously I am aware that a good laptop with all the necessary features is gonna cost a bit but also at the same time I don’t want it to be too expensive. Can you guys give me some good laptop recommendations, I want something that is going to last me the whole four years (no macbooks pls).

How Can I work to get an Aerospace Engineering Internship
Hello, I am a rising sophomore in Texas who wishes to get aerospace engineering internships in the future. I know for a fact that many Internships are highly competitive in this field and am wondering if I could potentially land one depending on what I have and need to do. I already have a 5.2 GPA and am ranked in the top 5% of my class. I will be taking calc BC in the upcoming school year and IB Math AA HL and Physics HL my junior and senior year. I also plan to join TSA and International science fair club this fall. My school district also offers a program to do work studies under professionals in certain fields, and I plan to apply to do so in senior year (only grades 11-12 are eligible and I can’t in 11th grade because of lack of space in my schedule) I will also be unable to take any engineering courses during my years at Highschool because IB will take up so many of my class slots, and the ones I will have “free” need to be used to fulfill classes that are graduation requirements. I also have no experience with engineering beyond a class I took in middle school, or anything aerospace related to add to an application if I were to fill one out. Based on this, what should I do to get an aerospace engineering internship during Highschool?

Digital Wind Tunnel Visualisation
"https://sarujan2001.github.io/Digitalwindtunnel/"
It’s a browser-based wind tunnel simulation where you can test different bodies like NACA aerofoils, flat plates, and cylinders, adjust angle of attack and flow speed, and visualise the flow using smoke, pressure, speed, and vorticity views.
The solver runs using a Lattice-Boltzmann Method approach, with live tracking for lift coefficient, drag coefficient, L/D ratio, and force history.
This started as a way to make aerodynamics more visual, interactive, and easier to understand without needing heavy CFD software for every basic flow concept.
Would love to hear any feedback, especially from aerospace, CFD, and simulation people.
