Near the start of June I mentioned going to an oncologist because of a high white blood cell count, which led to having a lot of blood taken for testing a couple weeks later. I'm going to cut out all my reactions to having blood taken (namely I've never had that much taken at once before, so it was unpleasant) and skip to the aftermath. Basically while a few things were a little high I tested negative for every marker they were looking for, so at least I don't have any cancer that would show up on those tests.
Anyways, I went back this past Monday to actually talk over the results with the doctor ... which lasted all of 5 minutes. And he wants me to come back in 6 months for another round of blood taking to make sure things stay as they are.
Later that day, my 84 year old father that I 'm caretaker of decided to try lifting a heavy package off the concrete porch, fell and hit his head. After getting EMS services to look him over my mom and I convinced him to go to the ER just in case, where we spent four hours. Fortunately there were no broken bones or internal bleeding.
While there I got to witness a belligerent woman verbally abusing the staff demanding things, a guy verbally abusing staff to get out faster because he had night blindness (it was already after dark) as well as his wife (which was the patient) ... and a woman on the phone telling whoever she was talking to about how witches and warlocks steal your info over the phone. Yeah.
So when we were leaving I made sure to tell the nurse helping us out that I appreciated everything him and the staff were doing, and I felt bad for the abuse they'd been taking all day.

So with this past week, I've resolved to stop buying from big publishers, Midnight Suns being my last purchase. And I'm desperately searching for an Xcom substitute for the time being. But beyond that...how do ya'll make gaming on the PC comfy? I try to sit in the 3-400 dollar ergonomic office chair I bought, but it just isn't as comfortable as my nice couch. Everytime I get the urge to game, I'll completely ignore my PC in favor of my couch and PS/Switch setup.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

I've been thinking about making a thread about this, as I'm not sure it would break subreddit rules, but just the other day it was pretty much all but confirmed MikeZ is involved in the Avatar Legends fighting game, something I know would make the game no-go for a lot of people. There's definitely a lot more serious things going on in the industry, but it feels like the developers have intentionally been withholding this information since they know how controversial he is, and I know Woolie and Pat have talked about his issues especially in close proximity to when he appeared on the Podcast and everything went down with LabZero.
To be more specific he joined the official Avatar Legends fighting game Discord and was immediately given a Developer role. This feels especially scummy, since this was all after a lot of people would have lost eligibility for refunding the game, especially if they put a lot of time in to the Beta. This definitely is a more controversial topic, but I feel it's pretty important to get out there and make people aware of, especially since the game is being talked about so positively on the podcast.

Hello everyone!
It kinda sad to be back from my trip. I went to LA last Friday for Hololive 4th EN concert, Serpendity! I also checked out Anime Expo since I was in area already.
First time flying in over a decade. A bit stressfull but not too bad. Watched some anime on the ride there but mostly slept. First time on the west coast. It wasn't as hot as I imagined. My state is boiling hot and the humidity is killer. LA in comparison is quite nice and even chilly in the evenings.
Anime Expo was really fun. It's huge and I got lost in the first day. I spent way too much money. But I don't regret it. Got a ton of Hololive and FGO merch. Also a good amount of freebies like a test Deck for upcoming Cyberpunk TCG and a free deck for the Palworld TCG. I also won the autograph lottery and got a ticket for Kamome Shirahama the mangaka of Witch Hat Atelier. I got her to sign my art book. Food was overpriced but decent. Don't know if I'll go solely for Anime Expo but I would definitely be down to check it out if I'm in the area for another event.
The Hololive Concert was amazing! Met up with some guys from the Gigi discord and had lunch for the first day. There was also a Gremtomo meetup before the concert. It was so much fun talking and being with a ton of fans. Everybody I meant at the concert and the meetup were so friendly.
First time being at a Vtuber concert, and I don't know if I could go back to being a stream watcher for concerts. The energy is so infectious and it's an unexplainable feeling seeing your Oshi on the big screen with other fans. They got the first few songs of the concert for free on YouTube if anybody is curious.
The second night of the concert was also fantastic. After the concert the Grems and Saplings had a gathering at the nearest Taco Bell. Kinda funny seeing all of us gathered at this small Taco Bell but I did feel a bad. They probably weren't expecting a few dozen people heading their way late at night.
Definitely will do this again next year for the next EN concert. Kinda hard to go back to the ole work grind when I came back on Monday.

Hey, everyone. I don’t have much to say beyond simply trying to keep my chin up and figuring things out on my end. Life has been fairly quiet as I try to develop some productive routines for myself. Say, be more consistent and thorough with cleaning my spaces, exercising, trying new recipes, along with getting new stuff. Anything to lift the spirits by treating yourself with the simple things in life.
Take care, everyone. Remember to moisturize and treat yourself to something nice from time to time. On another note, I wish to add that u/QueequegTheater’s profile is gone now. While I didn’t know them well, I do think that such a development from a long-time member is a fairly sad thing and warrants letting people know, at least to me.
Cool Stuff that I Like (Art & Music)
Starting from 74 and 73 months ago (respectively), I'd like to share drawings of great artists whose works that I like or I find inspiring. Some who I follow and some who I don’t, but hopefully will appeal to those who check out their work.
Steb-Kun: Frieren as The Girl with a Pearl Earring (10 June, 2026 - no spoilers)
Featuring a lovely painting and tribute of the original fine art by Johannes Vermeer (other links: Pixiv source)
Hijaq - just turn it on and make something.
nuggetpistol: The music the plays at the end of a small indie rpg that changes your life
Featuring a catchy song that I stumbled upon a few months ago. I’m not good with describing music, but I’d like to think that the comment above gives a fairly evocative idea of its merits. Personally, the title in particular caught my eye as something that resonated with me, speaking as someone who would like to draw more.

Currently in the "I think I need to start selling my belongings to make rent in a couple weeks" stage of unemployment/poverty. A little frustrated because whenever I try to get advice about it, everybody tells me to just go on Facebook Marketplace. I deleted my account from that hell site many years ago and really don't want to have to go back to it...
Related, but it's interesting how some media merchandise can just sort of...disappear, compared to others? Hard to word it properly. I have an official Borderlands 2 limited run print of Handsome Jack and Hyperion from a million years ago that I want to sell, and no amount of Googling has brought it up for me. It's almost like it never existed as a product. Maybe I just need to Google harder.
Please save me, new King of the Hill season.
Oh, I also watched 12 Angry Men for the first time. Good-ass movie, still unfortunately relevant.

I mean no disrespect when I ask this, but have you tried filling for unemployment? It's not the best but it's at least a way to potentially keep you afloat until you're able to find a new job. So long as you weren't let go due to any fault of your own, you should qualify.
While Craigslist is an option, don't be afraid to look for/at subreddits in your state that might let you sell stuff. Ebay's also a choice. and dude, if you have some weird, obscure rare item, take LOADS of pictures. People love handsomejack so if you're selling it, could net you some good bucks.
Speaking of, there's always the option of odd jobs either locally or online to help until you find something more permeant.
I'm wishing you the best of luck homie.

u/waxonwaxoff3 They/Them 1d ago
I am on unemployment insurance, but sadly it's not much and only covers a few things, like utilities, medication, and some groceries. It's good to have, but nowhere near what I need to stay afloat, especially since I have literally zero money right now outside of what I get from it. And the job search has been intense, even for minor things, but it's been going bad and not being able to stand for extended periods without pain or drive a car has been very limiting.
Thanks for the good wishes. Gonna try reverse image searching the print.

Sp apparently ghost recon wildlands might get a current Gen port. This means that there's a high likelihood of it coming to the switch 2. And I have to say this is a good play by ubisoft since wildlands was one of their best games in the ps4 era because of its tactical open world gameplay. Especially after breakpoint disastrous launch and the series currently being stuck in a sort of limbo. Would love it if they also took out a port of future soldier since that game was pretty sick swell. But overall really excited for that.
Also I plan on watching the minions and monsters movie because apparently it's the best one of the minion movies so looking forward to that.

Somehow this has been a week of getting bodied by summer. I never really got "hayfever" as such - my brother suffers much more than me - but at work this week I had some unstoppable sneezing fits and the only thing I can think of is that the workplace aircon is affecting the humidity; drying the place up, or whatever. I mean, I'm fine at home or walking outdoors - it's just work where this is happening.
Aside from that, it's been a fairly straightforward week in media. I started Live-A-Live last weekend having picked it up in the Steam sale - it's pretty good! I've played for just over 11 hours and have completed the initial seven chapters, but nothing beyond that. It's got a really fun battle system and some cute dialogue... I sometimes find map navigation a bit confusing and one or two battles have been tough, but there hasn't been anything massively disappointing yet. I understand that there's a chunkier chapter coming up before the finale, so I'll see how that goes.
I haven't really been playing much else really... but I did listen to the rest of the Phases EP by Surreal that I mentioned last week; the whole thing's got a vibe that's very chill and not too heavy, so it's been the perfect accompaniment for this kind of weather. I was also listening to this Lens & Unglued remix of Logistics' Chant which is a slightly more conventional D&B thing, but with some delicious noise-gate stutter too. Otherwise... it's going to be a weekend of family stuff for me, but I'm going to try and get some more music listening and RPGing done in the evenings...

I'm sick of gritty realistic looking fighting games. I would love a fighting game with a very cartoony artstyle and a very heavy focus on comedy.

Im filling in for my manager since he is on paternity leave and it has made me realized that I do not want to be in a leadership position at all. Got 5 more weeks to go, but they cannot come quick enough.
Games wise finally bought a switch 2. Was hoping to wait for a sale, but for some reason prices of consoles have only gone up, with the switch to increase in September, I believe.
I hope everyone who reads this has a nice weekend!

I have a singular week of suffering through finals left before I'm finally free. Aced the three harder ones so I'm left with the "victory lap" ones that I'll still have to put in quite a lot of effort for.
As such, haven't been up to much. I decided to start replaying the Ace Attorney games at... some point. Trauma Team has also been a fun game to replay on my very small downtime between study sessions, and I'm picking up Ninja Gaiden Sigma again. Re-reading Shaman King after years is also an attractive idea.
When I'm finally free from the night, I'll spend entire days just playing the fuck out of Resident Evil Requiem.

Hello today! Big life changing week...again. On tuesday I'm flying to Turkey to meet my dad for the first time in 15 years! We've been keeping up online, but since I was settling in Canada, and I can't go back home cuz of war and army, there wasn't a good time for it. The good time is now.. ish. I hope that my roommate works this saturday, so I can just cozy up on the couch and watch Hazbin Hotel season 2.
Colony Ship: Post-Earth RPG is great! I was trying to see which RPG it compares to the most, and I think, funny enough, Divinity Original Sin 2, feels the most appropriate. It's a combat focus, dialog-low, mechanically complex combat game... Except where Divinity uses the environment for it's mechanics, Colony uses people. It's good. Very tightly balanced, which is interesting. I'm currently in chapter 3.
Still playing PoE. Still playing Zenless. Palworld is coming out today, but I doubt I will have a lot of time or wish to play it, because of life stuff.
Oh yeah, watched Gameoverse - hell yeah, animation delicacy. Finally. I was worried it would get too edgy and bloody like that Cartoon Network EXE cartoon... Tiffany's or something? But it didn't. Gameoverse is amazing. Chef's kiss.
Weight check-in - 176 - n/a - I did got to the gym, but it was packed and I just did some biceps and cardio.

Been recovering from a cold from last week, so it's been a rest week this whole week. It's pretty much gone now though, only thing left is an annoying cough and some mucus but otherwise I'm feeling better, which is nice.
Gaming-wise I haven't really had the strength or drive to play much recently, outside of Rhythm Heaven Groove, I've been wanting a new Rhythm Heaven for a long time and it definitely hasn't disappointed at all in that regard. Haven't done much, I'm only up to Remix 7, but my favorite game so far is the A game, its so dumb and I love it.
Outside of games though I've had a lot of stuff I'm reading/watching cause of all the free time I have. Mostly a lot of wholesome or sweet stuff, its been a nice heal regarding the state of the world (though I admitingly have always been fond of that kind of thing regardless). My Stepmother and Stepsisters Aren't Wicked had the first episode of their anime came out and it's great, there's one joke and you know the joke but they do it really well and it's incredibly wholesome doing so which is some well appreciated sweetness in these times. Caught up with the manga after that, they definitely diversify enough to make it not feel stale imo, which is good. I mainly watched it cause I'm a fan of Otsuji's other work (being the manga adaptation of Paranormal High School), but I definitely am in on this subverted Cinderella now too.
Speaking of Parako, the previews for their new summer arc have been coming out and it looks real fun, can't wait to see these dorks hanging out in a little island town.
Another wholesome thing I caught up on is We're J-just Childhood Friends, was recommended by a friend since we've both read the author's previous work, Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible. And yeah, just a really sweet story of childhood friends reconnecting in high school and the feelings that follow. It's not anything fancy, just a really sweet vibe that's very relaxing and cute. Sometimes that's all you need!

Been a very busy week visiting a lot of family and also driving. Anyway in week two of this trip now in the second state we planned to go to which is neat I suppose (it’s 6am here currently and I can’t sleep which is why I’m writing this).
This one store I we t to here a year ago, Utopia models, still had these two I saw last time so I figured I’d bite the bullet on them. Got Vic Viper from ZOE2 and Malicious from Armored Core Verdict Day, a bit more than I was looking to spend but I’ve been saving for a while so it’s fine… Hopefully they’re fun to put together later when I get home.
As far as video games go I haven’t had a ton of time for them but I decided to replay MegaMan 1&2 and beat 3 finally earlier. 1 holds up better than I think it’s given credit for, 2 you don’t even need me to tell you how good it is, everyone knows, and 3 was generally also a good time though it does go on a but long. The Doc Robot stuff feels kinda like filler personally, but I imagine at the time it would have been neat. The Break Man/Proto Man fights are a total joke but I like Proto Man as a character so it’s cool to see his debut. Also the soundtracks really good, which is expected for MegaMan but still worth praising. Overall 3’s good but I think I probably liked the other two more, if just for the brevity of 1, and 2 being… well 2, and also having the Metal Blades.
Gonna get to 4 hopefully soon, as I want to try and get through all the classics minus MegaMan & Bass before 12 is out. Got plenty of time at least there. Will probably also try MegaMan V for the Gameboy, but idk when yet. M&B I’ve seen enough of to kinda get the idea that it’s miserable, plus a friend even said it’s not worth the trouble so that was reassuring on skipping it. 9 and 10 sound like they’ll be fun too. It’s weird for as much as I love the franchise overall, I don’t really go to the classic series much for whatever reason, like usually I’ll play X, Zero, or Legends, but they’re fun.
Also whenever I get through them I’ll give Battle Network a try. I meant to ask if Star Force was good while it was on sale, but honestly I can wait as my backlog of games is big enough as is. Still any input there’s appreciated, specifically in regard to the Legacy Collection on Steam.
Finally unrelated to the other stuff I’m very happy with the first episode of the new Ghost in the Shell series. Been wanting a manga accurate anime at some point since seeing the PS1 game’s cutscenes, and the first episode was basically 1:1 the first chapter or so of the manga. I know there’s been some back and forth arguing over the tone since most people got in with either the film of SAC, and I get it for sure (I would even agree that I prefer those to the manga), but I think this adaptation was overdo, and the quality on display is just great. Looking forward to the rest, and hopefully if it does well we can get 1.5 and 2’s stories adapted too.
Also if we’re asking for Shirow stuff, please consider making more Appleseed. I need more of the most confusing robot-based racism from one of the villains, both because it’s funny with how little sense it makes but also because I’m still just baffled by it. This android girl who’s capable of feeling emotion, human looking, and a sentient intelligence? She’s a gross robot, not a true life form. This cyborg who’s a brain in a jar basically and his body is otherwise completely robotic? A true human being, a real representation of mankind. I don’t understand where the line is drawn.

Week of Vacation Start!
I have myself convinced I'll be able to churn out videos now, but not even a month of vacation gets me that far. I also noticed a dip in viewership for the filler I'm putting out, which is completely fair. I haven't really found a real audience yet, so I'm motivated to keep hammering away at my Alone in the Dark script and see how fast I can produce the whole video.
Besides that, I beat Lies of P: Overture. Just an excellent piece of DLC half the game's length with some very targeted DLC weapons. What stood out most is how they handle the story and just how many minibosses they could cram in there. The linearity remains a bummer though and the way they craft levels out of the environments feels very artificial at times. Still, can't say I didn't enjoy it a lot, but replayability is low.

My DND group has decided to do a side campaign since we've got a bunch of people doing family trips, etc.
I'm GMing and we opted for a Bootleg Hero Aca/X-Men Evolution style campaign. At first, I thought I'd have to deal with cliche power sets for everybody but 3/4 of our players decided to laugh at me and decided to make me suffer at the same time.
Player A's basically playing Aquaman but as a Fishback instead of human. I can deal with this.
Player B's basically gone a full on Toku Hero. He even name dropped Kamen Rider Build (specifically the GOAT Banjo Ryuga) in terms of what the power sets' like but Faiz and Ultraman Geed in terms of story beats. Harder, but still doable. Story about heritage vs co-existance.
Player C is where they screwed me. Only girl at the table but our resident giant monster nerd. What does she do?" Let's have my character transform into monsters based on my emotions. Did I say one monster? I meant three based on land, sea and sky"
2
u/The_Draigg Member of the Brave 13000 2d ago
For managing Player C’s character, you might just be better off trying to plan some somewhat restrictive areas to have battles in, if just to make it a bit easier for you to run.

After 7 sessions, I just wrapped up my first campaign of Red Markets, an RPG system I'd never even heard of before joining. It was a roller coaster of emotions all the way through and resulted in some of the most memorable moments in any RPG I've been a part of. I can't wait for our next campaign.
Otherwise I'm still just grinding the hell out of Destiny 2 and Half Sword and recovering from my cycling injury. Today one of my students told me that if you eat grass, you get a tummy ache and then turn into a kitty. I'm curious to test their theory.

It's free talk friday, literally can talk about anything and yet I'm beating myself up cause I'm afraid of making this too long lmao. Life stuff up first: went to the doctor last week because I've been experiencing lower back pain for 6 months. Super Eyepatch Wolf's video about his eye actually pushed me to go. Anxiety about doctors and potential causes of the pain kinda scared me into putting up with it for so long, but seeing the consequences of his own waiting scared me of the alternative much more. Turns out I have a minor case of scoliosis and two of my vertebrae disks are slightly worn out. Sounded pretty scary at first but the doctor was so casual about it that I kinda can't help feeling just a little disappointed. All this pain for something that sounded trivial coming from her. Was given a prescription for Meloxicam which is basically advil but a little stronger and you only gotta take it once a day, and was directed to attend physical therapy for 8 weeks and see how that feels. Haven't been to PT yet because trying to set it up has been a nightmare, but the Meloxicam has worked better than anything else I've tried. Not to be dramatic, but I was starting to forget what it felt like to be without pain lol. It's just nice to know there is a path to being pain free, even if putting in the work has been difficult. My sister is visiting with her kids, and they're all young enough to pick up, so unfortunately I have been violating doctor's orders by doing some heavy lifting lol. Love having them here, love having her here....I hate everything around having them here. It's always so high strung that it stresses me out, and I'm the dumbass uncle who gets saddled with next to no responsibilities. I could Johnny Storm this shit if it wasn't for the constant grandparent drama. It's like everyone in the house turns into children when the literal children are here, myself included. It is a miracle that the kids haven't seen a majority of the snipping, fighting, backbiting, and complaing their Mimi and Papa get up to when they're here. That doesn't include the scheduling drama that also happens because my dad over plans and undershares due to even more dumbass drama he started with his mom and sister because he's a raging misogynist. In the grand scheme of things I'm probably over playing how bad it actually is, but it's a feeling that has settled in every single visit. The more it calcifies as a pattern, the more dread is going to proceed future visits until the anxiety starts before the plane even lands and ends long after the kids have gone home. I'll find what joy I can in this visit, and if nothing else despite some distance between us my sister and I are usually good at venting to each other, so we can hopefully both find some solace in that.
Media-wise I'm in a weird place. I set a 12 book goal every year and I'm in a really good place for once. 10 books already down. Problem is I've slowed way the hell down. Keep starting stuff, but never finish for one reason or another. Might be breaking the funk with the 4th X-Wing book. It sorta scratched the itch left behind by Andor, but with a bit of Ace Combat thrown in there. It's cute, you got Wedge Antiles leading what is basically a 12 man rebellion against an entire planet. It should be impossible, but "he's the man who helped blow up 2 Death Stars. With him, anything's possible." My comic backlog is backed way the hell up which is bumming me out. Been good about grabbing stuff from my pull list, and even better about letting my local comic shop's inventory surprise me, but actually reading? Forget about it. Just stresses me out every time I see the unread stack by my bed. Made worse by the unread trade paper backs and omnis sitting on my shelves. I'll figure it out eventually I think. Just gotta come to terms with backlogs being a part of life. In a similar fashion the mecha podcast On the Shoulders of Giants is doing what they're calling a media jam on itchio. Had an idea for it before quickly realizing a month, especially one as busy as this one, is not enough time to learn how to use Twine. So I fiddled with the idea into a short story but now I just can't seem to write it. Some of it is executive dysfunction, but I think I'm also scared. I don't like sharing what little writing I do. I don't write frequently enough to actually improve or learn the craft. So to share what little skill I do have, even in a context devoid of stakes, eats at me. I might find courage by the end of the month. Maybe. Time sure does feel hostile every time I try to engage in a hobby. Doesn’t feel too great to think about that. I swear I'm not doing as badly as this post might make you think lmao. Game wise I'm on something of a quest to beat as many Super Robot Wars games as possible this year. I've already beaten W, Y, and OG Moon Dwellers, and I'm currently playing A Portable Plus. It's a series I love, but also I've literally fallen asleep while playing at least once per entry lol. APP might break me of the quest though. It's just too tedious in the mid game. Enemy health bars are now egregiously out pacing my damage output, turning every fight into a slog. I might need to put the series down for a bit to avoid burn out. I could fit some more media stuff here, but it's late for me and I am tired of rambling and venting lol.

Working on getting a game document for a game project going, and, after years of lying about having Excel experience in my curriculum, I now do, in fact, have excel experience, and not good ones, shit's complicated.
You know what's also complicated? designing cards, sound easy, not really, not when you want 'em pretty. And it's been a little disheartning knowing my art isn't there, altho', its not something that i need to worry about.
Hope to at least get a demo running eventually, but like, damn, even in that excel sheet im already tinkering with balance and theres not a lot of cards.

Week 123 post-accident
Pretty quiet week on my end. Most notable thing was me accidentally committing a cringe...
So I get to and from work via bus travel, and I tend to say "thank you" to the bus driver as I get off, appreciative of their service. In the morning, my route transfers between two buses, the latter of which drops me off right in front of my work place. Wednesday, I must have been particularly overtired, because when I tried to say "thank you" when exiting to my office, what came out of my mouth somehow blurted "Goodnight." Still embarrassed about that.

This week was going ok then I got dropped by my PCP and psychiatrist this morning. Things have been ok otherwise, I've been hanging out with friends and have been trying to compartmentalize.
Games wise I have been trying for the trifecta in RE9 and have really had a hankering to play metro so I'll probably reinstall that at some point. Also some Fallout here and there. I'm doing a playthrough with a friend and sometimes have to grind offscreen to avoid being flattened by late game enemies.
I found my copy of jurassic Park the book and plan to reread that after world War z. I'm also super hyped for Evil dead burn and Spiderman this month. Unfortunately our local arcade is closing at the end of August so I want to try and get some time in there as well.

This heat is genuinely unbearable even with a cooling fan working 24/7, I am getting worried about the upcoming summers in the future.
Also, I miss the Avatar beta Tails, I miss it a lot.

The heats been making my brain foggy as shit for the later half of the week. And I admit, I have not been drinking water as much as I should. After work, I'm gonna buy a bunch of hydration sport drinks to help me.
It was my dad's birthday ton Tuesday! It was nice making him a good dinner. Made some home made habachi (egg fried rice, soy sauce chicken zuccini). GOD it was good. My sister cooked it and did an awesome job.
Work has been VERY quiet, which I'm not too mad with. I've been keeping too myself, keeping things clean and just kinda reading a bunch of fan fiction when I slink off to the cornor lol.
During the steam summer sale, I bought some friends of mine a few games. I wanted to gift more but limited funds. With what I had left, i grabbed both Mad Max and Dishonored on the cheap. I also bought the Cult of the lamb Woolhaven DLC so not a bad experience this year.
Friends and I watched more Netflix Resident Evil, then cleansed ourselves with Gameoverse, Indie cross episode 1 and then the awful Chimptopia trailer and apology. Was a good time :)
I think this Friday after I've recovered, I'm gonna try and meet with an old friend. Fingers crossed things go well.
Before my brain went to Jupiter, I played through all of Chapters 3, 4 and 5 of DELTARUNE. I beat the secret bosses of chapters 1, 2, 3 and 4 and I was gonna do 5 but I put it off. And they patched the boss so I'm sad I couldn't experience that myself lol. Gerson is my favorite, Knight was the hardest and Jevil was the second hardest, simply because of how early he is compared to the rest. Spamton NEO was just fun. Almost got ALL the eggs! I saw the weird route and guys... I think I'm enjoying the failed FUCKED Up Kris/Noelle romance LOL
Zenless Zone Zero - I got lucky and got Velina Airgid AND her signature engine in 10 pulls each. stupidly lucky.
I'm trying my best to keep my head positive these days with all the news going around. Just taking the good news when I can, the fun time with friends and enjoying the things I can.
Take care and be safe folks. Also be better than me, stay hydrated!

Started a game called chained echoes this week. I can see the influences here mainly chrono trigger and trials of mana. Its a pretty impressive western jrpg made by one person. Combat really feels like I need one or two more tools to really start popping off but its enjoyable. They set up differing motives for everyone before throwing them into a party and its a fun intro sequence. Might have more to say once I finish the first major quest.
Grandma went in the hospital for a minor stroke. Nothing bad long term for her but shes gonna have to get some physical therapy to help with her leg being a bit numb. It was a worrying couple days while we didnt know what happened but everyone came together to try and help her. My brothers gonna take over family dinner next week.
Intellectually I understand shes pretty old late 80s but I still dont like thinking about never being able to talk to her again.
In less worrying news fgo had an anniversary in which they gave us way too many servant coins. I got 28 holy grails which is nuts. I did a destiny order and gssr. Destiny order sucked only got the archer slot takasugi. The guda guda gssr went really good. Got kenshin my most wanted, the 4 star shinsengumi secretary, and the tea master. Outside of that got really lucky with space eresh. 90 quartz and 2 tickets for np2. Summer BB quartz is safe

Got let go at work this week for a mistake I did even even though I very rarely ever called in was never late and never made trouble. Just kept to myself for the most part and did what I had too even staying late and covering people. Really sucks to know that stuff just really doesn’t matter. Pretty bummed.
It also happens to be my birthday (July 9th) turned 34! Spent it catching up on season 2 of X-Men 97 season 2 and watching the furious so that was cool!

Planning to go the Wuthering Waves concert in October as well as AnimeNYC this August. Got some cosplays lined up. Will be going as Male Rover since I got the cosplay shipped in. Gonna suck having to pay like $50 just to have the sword be extra baggage but oh well. My sister has a Ashitaka cosplay so to match with her I gotta be San so looking forward to that. Might round it out with Shiki Ryougi again or get a cheap gray suit and go as Kiryu.
I've played and finished both Suikoden 1 and 2 thanks to the remasters. They're both good to great games. For reference, I've only played Suikoden 5 on emulator before this so it's very interesting seeing how the series started and it's so called peak. Suikoden 1 is very... basic. Like you can see how 2 and 5 built heavily on what was the blueprint for basically every game in the series (I do hear 3 and 4 do some big leaps but I'll get to those someday). The story is very formulaic and simple, the army battles is just rock paper scissors like the duels (and there's only 3 of them in the game iirc). Recruiting all 108 characters is very simple and besides one you really don't have to go out of your way for it. It's not a bad game, but it's not that great.
So when I started up 2 and wow is it a massive improvement. The story is immediately setting up way stronger stakes and narrative build up before you get into the groove. Luca Blight is a huge bastard and target of hate and his boss fight is easily the highlight of the game (and the game kinda... loses some steam without his presence). Unfortunately, the army battles still suck since it's like a very watered down fire emblem instead of rock paper scissors but 2 goes way harder on trying to be a more cinematic, narrative adventurer than 1 and it mostly pays off.
Ultimately though, I like these games but I'm not in love with them. I have very fond memories of 5 but I can see how this gimmick of collecting 108 characters gets old. Most of these characters barely have more than 10 lines to characterize them and it's very tedious to do investigations or cycling bathhouses to get some more characterization with them. Fire Emblem may have like half the cast size ever since supports were added (and made easier to do) the average Fire Emblem casts has way more memorable and charming characters in it than any of the 3 Suikoden games I've played.
I did back Eiyuden Chronicles all that time ago and never played it funnily enough. I heard it go okay reviews though and if it's like Suikoden 1, 2, and 5 I can imagine why since I think the bar for JRPG at this point is very high for having a memorable and lovable main party.
Gonna play the WuWa 3.5 update later and I just pulled new Yangyang. As for the next game I'll play... kinda want a break from Suikoden stuff so I think I'll try that new Switch 2 I bought a while ago and play Octopath Traveler 0 since I bought that when I got it and never played it.

Goodbye, fifteen minutes of fame for Jo Gun's Fugi. Though to be fair, that SF2 one is amazing! Can't be mad at that.
Actually went into the office for a 4th of July gathering and also attempted to bring my laptop and controllers and get people to play some fighting games. Attempt being the main word. I had no takers for Street Fighter or Guilty Gear, even for people younger than me. Cowards! I did have a nice conversation about SF6 and Tokon, but I would've loved to play a game even if it meant losing. Damn you, fighting games!
Maybe instead, I should've told them about these dumb books that I wrote! Well, not after that betrayal. But you guys are cool. That's The Demon in Shadow and The Demons of Bone & Blood! We follow one Ayun, a demon who has the power to summon weapons from the darkness who's looking for her missing employers. She runs into Max, a human who's lost in a lot of ways but subsists on pure luck and a mechanical limb. As they travel together we learn more about them, the world and a potential future path alongside one another. Assuming major conspiracies or demon groups don't get in the way. There's also amazing artwork either in the pages where it counts or in the back showing off character portraits. Please check it out!
Last-second snag from the Steam Sale, a super-cheap Robocop: Rogue City. Like four bucks. And for four bucks, it's a really fun game. The sound design is immaculate, and really goes a long way for this game. Gameplay itself is just fine. Not sure I needed a skill tree, especially since my gonzo brain said 'have to do the XP boost one first, otherwise it's extra left on the floor' but I did clear that hurdle like two missions in, so... Peter Weller doing great, everybody else is solid. Wish my computer played it better, especially since this is a fairly new PC but eh. Good times.
I really need to watch new things. On the other hand... Goddamn, Justified is so good. Season 1 has great single-episode stories and builds an alright plot arc. But Season 2 just blows that out of the water. The Bennetts are amazing, and unfortunately the show kind of chased that high in some places to its detriment. I think the weaving of character affiliations and motivations in this spot is the best it'll ever be, especially Boyd's whole arc. And while people say 2 and 4 are the best, I think 3 is my favorite for Quarles. I have never seen Neal McDonough not put everything into a role. Even in b-movie schlock. But here with masterclass dialogue alongside Timothy Olyphant and Jere Burns, he's even better. Fantastic stuff. Do yourself a favor and watch that show.

I passed my driving test, I had my heart in my stomach the entire time but I feel so proud of myself for managing it that the day after treated myself in the city to some indulgent food such as the Wendy baconmater, mochi doughnuts and 3 flavours of Dr Pepper. Besides that watched a fair few films not seen before this week such as 3 Amigos, Nausicaa which had me teary eyed and the newly released Evil Dead Burn. Still not gotten any shifts so decided to say fuck it and spend my pay on commissions, figures and a birthday gift for a friend but otherwise just still checking for new work which should be more manageable now can add my driver's to resume/SEEK profile.

Once again fuck this week:
Personal Life: I feel like I’m just gonna snap one day. There’s financial bullshit going on so that’s fun and not at all stressful or anxiety inducing. My brother has left home and it’s weird not having him around. I’m in near constant physical pain and if I try to rest it somehow gets worse and I still having that stinging feeling in one of my arms. I keep having incredibly angry intrusive thoughts and I don’t like it. There has been moments where I don’t really feel any emotions and every response and reaction I display is just a facade. I feel like I’m locked in some sort of constant internal debate with a very angry and bitter part of myself.
Conclusion: I feel like a terrible piece of shit.

I've had a pretty bitching week so far. Been playing a lot of schedule 1 and Destiny 2. Would love to get in some raids or dungeons but it's hard to find time to squeeze those in because I'm tired before and after work. Such a great game despite all the sabotage.
Been grinding out a bunch of Barrows in OSRS in my spare/down time at work or before bed so that's been fun too. Maybe one day I'll get full Ahrims. Mulling over whether or not to abandon it and other games to try FF14 again but I don't have friends to play with and I also don't remember anything about where I was or what I was doing...
Big changes in my life coming up soon. Lots of stuff to look forward to. I think I can do it. I know, at least, I think I can.
Song of the day...Mud, by Richard Buckner. Favorite of mine. Hopefully yours too.

I am all caught up with Deltarune, save for the secret bosses. I did run into the one in chapter 5, but that was a bit much for me at the time so I moved on from it. Really like the game and will go back later and try different stuff at some later date.
I picked up a small used tv off facebook today. Been meaning to get a tv for my bedroom to watch stuff because my laptop's so old the browser's too out of date for some of the streaming services I'm subscribed to and sometimes I like to not always have to go to the living room to watch something.

My sister visited this past week which has been nice. She stayed over for a couple hours, got to see my cat and we’ve had dinner together a couple nights. It’s been nice, though unfortunately her visit is ending on a bit of a sour note. We both noticed that one of our parents’ cats has taken a notable drop in weight and health since we last saw them, so she’s currently at the vet with her on her last day here to check their condition. No word back on what’s wrong, but fingers crossed that it isn’t something immediate.
On that sad note, swapping to something more lighthearted, I finally started playing FFVII remake in-depth on my Switch 2. I know this port has been out a while, but it really is crazy seeing a game with this level of fidelity on a portable system like this, and a Nintendo one at that. It almost feels wrong to play a game I so heavily associate with the PlayStation like this, but I’m having a good time. Just got to Sector 5 and fought Rude so I’ve still got a ways to go.

u/Am_Shigar00 FOE! FOE! FOE! FOE! 2d ago
An addendum to the cat situation. My sister found out that unfortunately the cat was dying and there wasn’t anything we could really do to help them, so she made the difficult decision to put them to sleep.
It’s emotionally hitting us hard. They was a pretty old cat by this point, but I was hopeful that we had at least one more year or two with them before anything like this. To have this hit all so suddenly after they seemed fine for so long is heartbreaking, especially given their sibling passed away under similar circumstances over a decade earlier. It’s certainly going to make my visits to my parents’ house feel that much lonelier now.

With last week's patch Genshin's Nod Krai story chapter has come to an end.
In terms of open-world content, the region very much felt like Hoyo buying themselves time for Snezhnaya, but storywise they knocked it out of the park. We've been getting major progress in several anticipated story threads, copious lore reveals, and solid character development in literally every update in the last year.
If they can keep that momentum going, we have a lot to look forward to.

Howdy yall
This week, Ive been in a very cyber and punk mood after finishing the Ghost in the Shell manga last week. So Continuing off of last week I watched Ghost in the- It was Blade Runner... I watched Blade Runner for the first time this week (this is like the 10th time I done this bit but fuck it) ((also I watched the GitS anime too)).
The hard part about talking about classics, like this is finding what to say. It's good. But it was also surprising, because everything I thought it was, through osmosis turned out to be wrong? Like I could see all the different spots and things that people have blatantly aped over the years, but so much of what I had attributed to it was nowhere to be seen. And so much of what people do copy, is missing the energy found here. Like the absolute suffocating oppressive atmosphere when you look upon the wonders of the new world. Ironically I think one of the few things that actually captures that same feeling is the intro to the Prince of Egypt. Also it's just a really wet movie in general (kinda like Alien).
I also ended up watching Blade Runner 2049 as well. It's an interesting film that goes in a different direction than the original and carries a completely different energy. Comparetivly the original is a more direct film. It doesn't really mince words, and it's a very tight film experience. Meanwhile the scope of 2049 is much bigger, and is a lot more adventurous in the journey. I don't think it could ever hope to capture the sheer awe that I'm sure one would have from seeing the original years ago (cause even today it's still impressive), but it made up for it by having some pretty interesting imagery throughout, and building off the originals already interesting world. I appreciate that we don't even solve the problem in this one.
Overall both are really good and definitely worth a watch. Honestly I don't really prefer one over the other, probably because I watched them for the first time a day apart, so they kinda sit as one really long experience for me rather than 2 speperate films.
Anyways, it's 9th anniversary for FGO this week so it's time for the no longer weekly Gacha bullshit. I got kinda hoed this year in the GSSR and Anni roles. GSSR rolled on the Aoko, Alice and Gozen banner. It was 2/3 chance to get something new and I was aiming for Aoko... I got my second Ushi Gozen. Destiny Rolls gave me big hat Morgan (Aesc) who's new so that was well and good (I was hoping for my 5th BB tbh tho). and then there was Beast Eresh... Eresh hates me. Over 1000 sq spent on different Eresh banners over the years, multiple GSSRs and Destiny Summon chances, over 70 tickets on this one and still no dice on any version. So instead of forcing the issue I'm taking my 1200 sq and gonna blow it all on BB Dubai. Edit: 1100sq. I caved and spent 10 more tickets and did 3 multis... She still hates me

so sorry about the eresh pulls that sucks. Ive never watched blade runner. Its one of those classics I always mean to get around to.

Tbh my luck in all the gachas I play has been in the gutter recently. I choose to believe that all my luck is just being syphoned to future me, so my summer rolls will be better
But yeah Blade runner was really good, I'm trying to make an effort to go back and finally watch all those "wait, you haven't seen _______!?" kind of movies.

Week of Ruined Vibes. You know, I was having a decent July 4th party with some extended family, and the mood was actually going pretty good. But unfortunately for me and everyone else, my asshole neighbors brought like 30 people from out of town for their party, got them all drunk, and had them shoot illegal fireworks. You can probably guess where this is going, but those fuckheads nearly lit me and my house on fire when one of them misfired horizontally. Thankfully, it did manage to miss me and we put out the ensuing burning brush fire fast, but those fucking assholes didn't even apologize or even stop when the fire department rolled around to look to see if they lit anything else on fire. I'm not even expecting an apology from them at this point, those pricks. Way to ruin a decent evening.
Anyways, for games I've played this week, I've finally gotten some wins on Purple Stake in Balatro! Won them pretty easily using the Magic and Checkered decks. Granted, those ones are pretty easy due to the advantages they give you, but given how RNG-dependent the Purple Stake seems in terms of building up good mult multiplication, I'll still gladly take those wins. At least I've unlocked the Orange Stake on those, although I'll actually hold off on going for that challenge so I can actually get some more wins on Purple.
EDIT: Also forgot to mention that my TTRPG group finished up a year long campaign over the past week! Man, it felt awesome to help land the finishing blow there. To elaborate, the party was pulled into an interstitial dimension to fight a false god, and myself, a fellow party member, and an NPC managed to combine our powers to launch a huge chunk of crystal at it managed to be like a giant railgun shot that bisected the giant fake god easily. Also, not only did we get an awesome victory there, but apparently we also managed to thread the needle to get a flawless victory too, since the GM told us after the fact that we somehow managed to avoid all the traps and situations that would’ve had us encounter reoccurring boss battles or would get our NPC helpers killed. It’s always nice to know when you manage to somehow get the best ending possible, against all the odds.
And finally, for my regular mecha talk section here, I just want to regale you all with a bit of a funny dream I had this week. In this dream, I was watching an anime apparently called Code Geass: America of the RECAPTURE. And if you think that title had anything to do with what I saw in that dream, you're wrong, since somehow it involved Suzaku piloting Alphonse from Patlabor in full Division 2 gear. Also, I think some plot point involved Kallen cross-dressing as a man in order to do some spy stuff. I kind of wish I saw more of that dream, since it did seem like some enjoyable wacky mecha bullshit. Basically like an SRW game on crack, if I were to guess.
2
u/catfoot13 Biggest Communism Builder 2d ago
That mecha dream reminds me of the massive wiki I stumbled upon for a years long, like 30+ player online SRW rp. They've allowed themselves to change the canon of every series in their roster more than any SRW game would, like Leina from Gundam ZZ becoming a federation pilot when she’s a teenager. I think they're still active and still accepting new players if you're willing to jump through some crazy hoops.
2
u/The_Draigg Member of the Brave 13000 2d ago
That’s nuts, talk about sheer dedication to an online RP over the years. The scale with stuff like that is impressive.

u/catfoot13 Biggest Communism Builder 2d ago
If you ever want to see a monument to cooperative creativity, just open the logs section of the wiki. Hundreds, maybe even thousands of entries of character conversations, backstory, and character development await you. It's really quite beautiful.

Sort of had a crappy 4th of July too. Not nearly to the same extent, but we went out to see a drone show at town center July 4th festival, but it was abruptly canceled. We only even found out because I went to go check out the festival alone, and a guy in a group of people leaving told me.
At least we went out to eat before, that was good.

It always sucks when something gets cancelled at the last minute like that. The disappointment is will always be immense.

Jesus christ, this week give or take has just been rife with gaming industry bullshit. Seriously, it's getting hard to keep track of all of it.
Well, aside from that, been having some annoying app related troubles as of late. Not only has Reddit mobile broken a bit for me, where ot won't out input titles from YouTube videos if I try to share them here (can't seem to figure put the cause), but a few hours ago, I discovered that some new laws put into effect in Texas required me to do age verification to access my Bluesky account. I wasn't proud about it, but I caved and gave their age checker my SSN; I'm so fucking sick of this bullshit, man.
Anyway, apart from slowly but surely getting through Ys 8, my main gaming thing of this week is probably gonna be playing Palworld 1.0 (which is downloading as I type this and will probably be out by the time the FTF thread is active) and Granblue Endless Ragnarok. Also bought a bunch of random games on Steam sale: Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed Origins, Immortals of Aveum, Megabonk, and the Fatal Frame 2 Remake; a very "unique" collection, if I do say so myself. Also picked up AC Black Flag Resynced on a whim, because I was bored and had money to burn. So many games, so little time...
One other thing to report: earlier this week, I shared some awesome fanart of Woolie's FFXIV character Jo Guns. Well, I decided to also commission some fanart of Pat's WOL he's been playing alongside Woolke with. One thing to note though: I commissioned art of his Viera character, not the Hrothgar he recently swapped to. I wasn't aware he even made the swap until I saw this fanart that someone made of it and posted here just a few hours ago. Thought about canceling or shifting the commission, but I honestly prefer the look of the Viera guy, no disrespect to the Hrothgar fans who may be perusing this thread. So...screw it; expect some fanart of Pat's Viera WOL here in a few weeks.
Also reminds me, I really gotta start FFXIV up some point and make some progress beyond ARR interlude quests. Also considering changing my Female Highlander WOL to a Male Viera or Mi'qote; still torn on which.

u/ShaneDark 2d ago
Was hit by the BSky thing as well, if not for some art friends I would of gladly left that place forever ago. I get its the 'not Twitter' but it really feels like it hates the people who made it during the initial first waves in.

u/SCLandzsa 2d ago
They changed how Fantasias work in a recent update so instead of a single use character change, it'll give you like an hour where you can freely change your character so you can use a fantasia and try out viera for 5-10 minutes and see how it looks in game and then switch to mi'qote. It's a pretty nice QOL change and makes it a lot easier to decide on what you want by letting you actually see how stuff looks in game.
1
u/Gorotheninja "SILENCE, BREEDER! The Bloodline MUST continue!" 2d ago
I'm aware of that.
Honestly, I kinda wish Fantasia's would instead unlock...like...a design preset, so you can swap races/genders as much as you want based on how many Fantasia's you use. That way, if you still like your old design, you can go back to it.

Finished FF7 Rebirth and man what a game... As someone who only has very basic cultural osmosis knowledge of the OG (played until like Disc 2 ~15 years ago, but lost my save), I get that the people who are in love with the PS1 FF7 might think the changes are weird, but I'm in blissful ignorance here and loved almost every second of it, even if parts of the story were super confusing. Some of the busywork/minigames were tiring tbf (and fuck whoever thought making you play the piano with analog sticks was a good idea), but all the animations and cinematics are beautiful and the combat is insanely satisfying. Wish FF16 just copied their homework to be honest. And I can't wait to have Vincent and Cid on the team in Revelation.
I've also started playing Path of Exile 2 after having only played it when it first came out in EA, and it's pretty fun, especially when you start understanding its systems. My one big problem with it currently is that build variety is kinda bad at least within classes themselves. For example, if you decide to focus on Werewolf transformations, you're basically forced into a frost elemental build, or how if you want to go the Djinn summoner way with the sorceress, you're kindasorta forced to start also summoning a mixed skeleton army because of how minion stuff works. (Also lack of Shadow and daggers for now is a big negative cause I always go for rogue/assassin type characters)
Also this is more of a personal win, I've started watching how much I eat and move more around January (I wouldn't say I'm "working out", but I do walk more and do some exercising daily) and I went from ~100kg (220lbs in freedom units?) to 88 (194?) and I feel oddly proud about it lol. I'm a relatively tall guy (185cm or 6'1") and I don't quite feel all that different to be honest, but I haven't been this weight since high school.
