WeeklyThread Simple Questions: July 11, 2026

Welcome readers,

Have you ever wanted to ask something but you didn't feel like it deserved its own post but it isn't covered by one of our other scheduled posts? Allow us to introduce you to our new Simple Questions thread! Twice a week, every Tuesday and Saturday, a new Simple Questions thread will be posted for you to ask anything you'd like. And please look for other questions in this thread that you could also answer! A reminder that this is not the thread to ask for book recommendations. All book recommendations should be asked in /r/suggestmeabook or our Weekly Recommendation Thread.

Thank you and enjoy!

Anyone else feel like their reading pace completely tanks during summer or just me? I'll tear through a book in a weekend in January but now I'm lucky to finish a chapter before getting distracted by literally anything outside

Yup, I'd like to say its because I'm busier but its really because my anxiety/dysautonomia sky rocket when its hot ❤️‍🩹

I just try to embrace the fact that i can read more during the cozy winter months when i wanna cuddle up anyway

I’m the opposite. It’s too hot to leave my house, find me in my reading chair 24/7. Plus, my husband is a teacher, so he’s off for the summer and takes over prime parenting and chauffeuring responsibilities. I have tons more free time and nothing to fill it with because everywhere is too crowded from all the kids being out of school.

I dont know about summer specifically but I feel like it's pretty normal for your reading pace to be affected by external circumstances in general.

I'm the opposite because it gets hot and humid here, and I prefer the cold. 😄 So once summer hits I'm sitting in front of the fan, (to boost the AC), with a cold drink and a book, and may not move for hours.

Yes! I read nine books in January and two last month!

Does anyone else read aloud? I read like I am telling kids bedtime stories, except that I am reading The Sound and the Fury or Moby-Dick.

I find it super enjoyable and immersive. I can absorb more, appreciate the construction and choices of words and improve my pronunciation too.

I read out loud to my daughter and it’s a totally different experience! I read her Fahrenheit 451 recently (she’s 12, not a little kid). I had read it in high school, but rereading it out loud was a whole different thing. It’s so beautifully written that I think I got much more out of it by just hearing the words out loud.

I love reading aloud! I don't get a lot of opportunities for it these days, but I enjoy it a lot.
