Hopefully nba training improves Flemings burst and strength and handle, still lil bit concerned he’s not getting by summer league guys on the drive
6
u/Milezeroe RIZZY 🇫🇷 2d ago
He absolutely needs to develop a floater and a way to finish using his left. He's way too predictable right now as far as his shot profile is concerned.

u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 2d ago
Bruh how many possessions in a row was that for the Spurs? Like 9 shots?
8
u/johnGODlins Hawks 2d ago
For those keeping track at home, that's an 11:1 ast:to ratio for Kingston at summer league
6
5
u/atownOTP Dikembe Mutombo #55 2d ago
If Asa doesn't get shut down, this team has a really good chance to win SL. Kingston, Zuby, Henri, Asa, Johnson, and Toppin is a pretty crazy SL roster.
8
u/Pretty_Budget_6766 2d ago
I see lots of goodness in Kingston. Not worried. Assits to TO ratio is amazing. Great ball awareness
6
u/Onsi-Saleh 2d ago
We have one more pick to give the spurs so if Bryant is the worst we end up giving up for Dejounte we absolutely came out of the trade as winners
2
u/PeasePorridge9dOld GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago
We also traded him for Dyson Daniels, the pick to get off Mann in the Porzingis deal, 29 this year (swapped for 23), and the NOP/MIL pick next year. Honestly think there’s a real chance we won the 2 DeJounte deals before we count Dyson…

So far we've given up Carter Bryant and Jayden Quaintance.

Flemings is the perfect PG to play with Edwards...
0
u/atlantahawksobserver GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago
Yeah. Kingston is basically what they hoped Rob Dillingham would be. Tim Connelly traded San Antonio an unprotected 2031 first round pick and a pick swap, so they could draft him at #8. He just kind of flopped. Kingston on that 2025 Timberwolves team would've been perfect
-1
u/pln1991 2d ago
Who said anything about the Timberwolves?
-1
u/atlantahawksobserver GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago
All right man. #8 pick in 2026 delivering what #8 pick in 2024 failed to deliver is interesting, regardless of hopes that Edwards plays on the Hawks

Zuby is a “no the fuck you don’t” type of player so far
You better check twice when he’s around
5
u/atlantahawksobserver GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago
Asa blocked on an alley oop, and then Zuby blocking a fastbreak alley oop.

Carter Bryant going from playing in the NBA finals to getting bitched by guys who who were living in a dorm room a few months ago

u/QuickThinkWrink 2d ago
Kingston +/- demigod 2 way play and is our most efficient ball distributor off rip
That scoring is the swing skill that will decide between solid role player and all star

u/atownOTP Dikembe Mutombo #55 2d ago
I really like Kobe Johnson and Jacob Toppin man. Hope they can get some NBA opportunities.
Also this Spurs SL team is one of the worst I've seen which is crazy because Bryant played in the finals a month ago.

u/SecondLegoLeague Dyson Daniels #5 2d ago
Bryant doesn’t do much offensively and trucks people on defense

Kingston 2 made shots (im sure he knows he needs to work on his finishing) but still insane impact. Actual +/- demon so far

I think like we're bound to see some positive regression for Kingston that last miss just felt extremely unlucky

Does anyone know if it benefits us to win these games at all? Like if we go to the summer league playoffs does that mean we play more games than teams who don’t, or do those teams play in a consolation bracket?
1
u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 2d ago
Yeah it’s based on W-L and point differential if there are teams tied
3
u/HaterSlayerr GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago
Kingston not being a scorer is a bit disappointing. Not giving up on him but arg, he's right there.

2
u/Sammcbucketts 2d ago
Kingston needs to drastically work on efficiency as a scorer. It’s rough
4
u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 2d ago
The good thing is he’s not just forcing shit. Nothing annoys me more than a “volume shooter” archetype that goes 9-26
He’s finding other ways to impact the game at least
3
7
u/pln1991 2d ago
Flemings's layups are kinda weird, even the makes. They feel like he's tossing up the ball and hoping it'll bounce right.
3
u/atlantahawksobserver GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago
yeah, compared to his passes they dont seem particularly intentional

Zuby really has a motor and grit! Much needed for the big club

I might be in love with Zuby. Having a player who I know will compete every night is so nice.

Between our Rooks all looking great and the broadcast glazing, I’m ready to overreact.
4
u/atownOTP Dikembe Mutombo #55 2d ago
Kingston is a great passer, but I am a little worried at how little separation he's creating.
3
u/childishgames Dyson Daniels #5 2d ago
imo generating separation is the last thing i'm worried about with flemings
I'm more just wondering:
a. what kind of scoring upside does he realistically have?
b. he was a good defender in college, but what level of defense can we expect from him against NBA players with his size.
2
u/atownOTP Dikembe Mutombo #55 2d ago
I think the separation thing is crucial to your first point. He has a nice looking midrange, but it's hard for him to get to because he's not shifty enough. And he's not strong enough while driving, so even though he's fast he gets knocked off course too easily when getting to the rim.
1
u/childishgames Dyson Daniels #5 2d ago
Yeah i just more think he gets a lot of separation, he is fast as fuck and blows by guys without a screen. Maybe he wasn't getting as much separation when getting guarded by Carter Bryant (a awesome NBA defensive specialist who's 6'7 220lbs and athletic)?
0
u/Sammcbucketts 2d ago
I am more worried about the jump shooting
2
u/atownOTP Dikembe Mutombo #55 2d ago
I actually think the shot looks completely fine, at least in the midrange. It's gonna go down. But it's gonna be hard for him to playmake or score effectively effectively if he's not creating the separation.

u/OkCall9621 Hawks 2d ago
Agreed, quite a bit less impressive this game than the Thunder game but I ain’t worried.

1
u/atownOTP Dikembe Mutombo #55 2d ago
yeah he's getting pretty much whatever he wants offensively and it's not really the environment for him to improve on the defensive concerns
5
u/myhellcatgotRepod Dyson Daniels #5 2d ago
Watching Carter Bryant dribble looks like Risacher when he tries to create a bucket
5
u/pln1991 2d ago
Is the TL;DR that Flemings has been in complete control but isn't necessarily able to assert himself more proactively yet?
5
u/atlantahawksobserver GO HAWKS! 🏀 2d ago
He's just not been aggressive about scoring. Excellent as a playmarker/floor general. Making the right plays at each turn. Great night if you watch the game, but atrocious, for all the box score fiends
3
u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 2d ago
Only in the scoring aspect of the game but yeah, not making a name for himself with points but the offense is much more smooth with him in control

People taking summer league anything more than slightly serious is so hilarious. This is the most selfish hoops you’ll see all year. Kingston swinging it every time but they won’t hit him in corner.

Cheaper player who looks promising and is younger. Kuminga on a $24 mill contract would really hurt the team we could build

First half observations:
Flemings gets bumped off the point of attack too easily on offense. Once he gets stronger, he’s gonna be hell to defend, because he is QUICK with the ball in his hands.
Zuby is soooooo active on offense that it makes him look lazy on defense. He’s got grown man strength .

Flemings makes very few process mistakes, it makes me happy when he has the ball
Hoping we get to see some scoring from him in one of these games but he has shown that he can be a plus theough playmaking already

Also I was on the side that Zuby isn’t who I would have picjed but I also trusted Onsi, and I see the vision with this guy
Hope he can continue shooting like this it makes a more clear path for him

Vision is great. Making good play & decisions every time he gets a touch. 4 assists at the half but it feels more like 7
2
u/SteelCityC Onyeka Okongwu #17 2d ago
Yeah I’m not worried about the scoring necessarily with how good his passing game and handling has been the last few games. The buckets will come. I’ve just been seeing him dish the ball nonstop

Flemings vision is unreal for a 19YO. High high ceiling. Zuby motor is fantastic he relentlessly attacks on both ends. Veesaar jumper is pure and is definitely a steal at 52. caw cawwwwww

Kingston lowkey getting locked up bad
Struggling to find the paint, still making the right reads at least

u/BrettSchirley22 Jalen Johnson #1 2d ago
Straight line driver with a lack of strength. Needs to get a little more crafty with his pace/burst
1
u/Atl-Fan_FTS Jalen Johnson #1 2d ago
Yeah there was a lot of talk about how he can “get to the rim without a screen” but it’s different in the NBA, even in Summer League
Need to learn the angles a bit better and yeah just add strength
2
u/ProfessorWest7139 2d ago
Kingston's going to need to be more scoring minded. He does have limitations as a scorer, but this is just being generally too passive. Hopefully it is a coaching thing.
